Opposites Attract

She knew he’d come into the kitchen as she changed but didn’t know why. Her cat shook herself and looked up at him one last time. Then she turned to go home. And the pet door was blocked. He’d sat the garbage can in front of it. The bobcat felt cornered and tried moving the garbage can from the side. It wouldn’t budge. What in the hell did he have in the thing?

“You’re not leaving. You might as well settle down because I’m not letting you go. And, since you can’t open the door like you are now, you can either change and go home naked or stay here with me.” He stood next to the door and clicked the lock.

Gail growled and backed away from him. The bastard had her locked in and essentially a prisoner. Just what did he want from her? She’d bared her soul and said she was sorry. She raced from the kitchen to the front of the house. Naturally he wouldn’t have a pet door in the front door. Then she raced to the back of the house and squeezed under the bed.

He laughed from the doorway shaking his head. “I can’t believe a bobcat is hiding under my bed.”

It irked her, so she stuck her nose out from under the bed and growled at him. His face broke into a huge grin and he walked over to the bed and bounced on it. She pushed herself out from under the bed and streaked back into the kitchen to renew her effort to move the garbage can. Then she gave up and called her change.

Naked and as vulnerable as she had ever been, Gail knelt on the floor and cried. He had reduced her to nothing without even trying. Her heart broken and her cat defeated, she wept for all she’d lost with a few careless words.

Jason knelt next to her and pulled her into his arms. “I love you. I’ve been sick inside ever since I left you. I felt like a coward, but I couldn’t stop thinking that I’d never be able to be what you wanted… needed.” He smoothed her hair and pulled her into his lap. “Don’t cry. I never meant for you to cry.”

“I’ve lost you. I love you, but I threw it away. I don’t know what to do.” She leaned against him and cried herself out.

Jason pulled her to her feet and kissed her, wrapping his arms around her, he held her and murmured in her ear. “You haven’t lost me. I was never gone. Just feeling sorry for myself because you didn’t want me like I was.” He kissed her eyes and brushed away the tears soaking her cheeks. “If you’ll have a plain old Tom cat, I’m still here.”

Gail looked up at him then. She really looked at him and realized he had said he wanted her. “You aren’t mad at me for what I said? You really still want me?”

“You pissed me off, and yeah, it hurt, but I still love you. I can’t stop loving you just because you made me mad. I have a feeling you’re going to do that a lot.” He raised her chin with his fingers. “Besides, I have you where I want you now. You can’t get away until you cry uncle and admit I’m your dominant.”

“Like that’s going to happen.” She smiled up at him and pulled his head down to hers. “We need a bigger pet door.”
