Paige managed to catch Brandon’s eye as she walked in, holding Ria’s hand. Her gave her a self-satisfied smirk, and she shrugged and stuck out her tongue. He nodded his approval and turned back to his new wife.
The day turned to dusk, and the dusk turned to night, and they drank and they danced.
She looked at Ria, and in that moment, she was as sure as she’d ever been. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with this woman. Ria looked back at her, and Paige knew she felt the same way.
“So,” Ria whispered. “Is this a good time to tell you I got an offer from North Carolina?”
“And what did you tell them?”
“I told them I had to talk to someone first before I accepted.”
“You did?”
“I wasn’t going to screw it up again, if there was any chance. If you say no, I won’t go. I’ll find something here or we can go anywhere you want. What do you think?”
“I think I’m going to like it there.”
“Are you sure?”
“As sure as I’ve been about anything in my whole life.”
They wrapped their arms around each other and swayed to the music, looking out at the city spread out around them. Wherever they were heading, this time they were going there together.
