“Me too. Good night and drive safe.”

“Sweet dreams, Cam. I’ll text you when I wake up in the morning and pretend I see you.”

“Oh my God, stop,” I place my hand on his forearm. “Thank you again for a nice night and for the sushi.”

  “My pleasure.”

The next few days go by without any issues. It’s the same routine with Grayson. Tonight, Ayden’s back, and I have to bring Grayson to him.

“Ready to see Daddy?” I ask Grayson. He coos, and I get him from his car seat. With his bag on one arm and him on my side, we go into Ayden’s house. “Ayden! We’re here.” I announce.

Putting down his bag, I walk into the kitchen to find Ayden leaning on the counter with his head down.

“You okay?” I ask, rubbing his back.

“Bad week. I’m meeting with senior advisors Monday to see what else we can do to turn around the company.”

“That’s a good thing. Do you want me to keep Grayson for the weekend so you can get your head together?” He shakes his head. “Okay well, if you need me, let me know.”

“Thanks, Camila.” I smile and hand Grayson to Ayden. “Okay, baby boy, Mama will see you in a few days. I love you.” Kissing his forehead, I look at Ayden and smile. “Don’t worry so much. Have a good weekend.”

  “You too.”

Leaving his house with a smile I head to Bev and Dylan’s. The drive is quiet and leaves me time to think about things. Ayden’s back, and it’s nice to have a few days without Grayson even though I miss him already. Eric’s texting me a lot more and with each text, I smile like a fool. I still don’t know what we are and to be honest I don’t want to know. I like what we’re doing, and I like not having a label.

Pulling into their driveway, I grab the bottle of wine I picked up today and head inside. Bev is sitting on a donut-shaped ass cushion when I walk in. “What the hell is that?” I laugh.

“Listen, you,” she starts to say, “things have been interesting, and we’ve been experimenting lately. Let’s just say lube is your best friend.”

“Anal?” I laugh again. Bev and Dylan are incredibly sweet, but they’re sexual creatures. Bev is horny all the time, and I’m surprised they don’t have more kids.

“Yeah,” she blushes. Odd, she’s never shy to tell me about her adventures. “Come sit with me. Tell me what’s going on.” Grabbing a glass of wine from the cabinet I pour myself a healthy amount and sit with her.

“Nothing. I mean, you remember that guy from the bar right?” She nods, “We’ve been hanging out, and I think we’re dating. He’s a really nice guy, and he doesn’t run away when he sees Grayson. He actually stayed up and listened for Grayson because I fell asleep on the couch. I like hanging out with him and there’s no pressure.”

  “Are you sleeping with him?”

“No,” I admit. “He kissed me goodnight, but it was innocent.”

  “Did you feel anything?”

I think about the question and the kiss. It was simple and sweet. Nothing out of the world. I didn’t get the feeling I usually get when I kiss someone. I take that back. When I kiss Ayden, the world stops and it feels as though it’s the two of us only. Time freezes, and my heart races when I feel his tongue dance with mine. The silky heat between my legs warms up, and it’s only been with Ayden.

  Not with Henry.

  Not with Eric.

Am I doomed to only feel for Ayden?

But I like talking to Eric and spending time with him. I find myself thinking about him every now and then, wondering what he’s doing and if he’ll text me. Maybe I can get to know him better and see where it goes.

“What do you think I should do?” I ask.

“I think you should do what makes you happy. If you want to move on and try this thing with Eric, do it. But remember that you can’t fool your heart.”

“Yeah,” is all I’m able to say before downing my glass of wine.

  Sharp

I WATCH CAMILA AND GRAYSON exit the driveway to start the drive back to her house. It’s a rainy day, and the house is quiet again until my door opens. Waiting for whoever it is that’s here, I pour myself another glass of cognac from the decanter next to me.

With a full glass, I head into my office and straight to the locked cabinet to pull out an album. Leaning back, I open the album, looking at pictures from our past.

Picking up the phone, I see it’s Camila calling. “Baby, what’s wrong?”

“I need you to come get me, please,” she sobs and I grab Dylan’s keys and run out the door. Driving as fast as I can to her house, I find her sitting by a tree. Jerking the car to the side of the road, I run to her and take her in my arms.

“Baby, talk to me. What’s wrong?”

She sobs louder in my chest and clings onto me. “I need you to hold me please.” I do as she says and look around. No one’s coming out of her house, and I wonder how long she’s been out here crying.

“Are your parents home?” She shakes her head, and I pick her up and put her in the car. Entering in her security code, I drive up and park the car. Bringing her back in my arms, we walk into her house and up to her room. Lying down on her bed, I hold her and let her cry.

I don’t say anything because I know it’s her parents who are causing my angel to break down. Even though they aren’t here, they’ll do anything to cause her pain and heartache because of me.

“Is it your mom?” She nods, and I hold her tighter.

“The tabloids got a picture of us and printed it online. It’s going to be in magazines all over. My mom’s agent showed her, and now she’s threatening to send me to Europe. Ayden, she can’t do that, can she?”

“No, baby. No one’s ever going to take you away from me. I promise you that you’re going to always have me and know what it’s like to feel love. We’ll have to be more careful, and we will be.”

“I’m scared my mom’s going to do something, and you’re going to be gone. I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to us or to you.” I stroke her arm up and down and kiss her forehead.

“Your mom won’t get in between us. No one will.” Pushing myself up to look at her, I tilt up her face to look at her. “You have to remember that our love is so fucking strong. No one’s going to take you away from me. I promise.”

Finding her lips, I pull her on top of me and feel her breasts against my chest. I love having her close to me, feeling her heartbeat, and hearing her breathe.

My hands find the silky skin hiding under her blouse, and I let my fingers trail across her ribcage. We’ve had sex before, but this time feels different. I want to take things slow with her today and make sure she feels good. I’m not be the most experienced, and I hope that’s okay with her. Sliding off her blouse, my fingers trail fire over the curves of her breasts..

Flipping her over on her back I ease down her shorts and thong and bury my face into her. Her hands go to my hair, and she arches her back. All good signs. I lick and suck at her smooth, pink flesh, adding a finger and moving in and out.

“Whoa, Ayden,” she mutters, pushing my head into her pussy. She tastes really good. I can get used to doing this to her all day, every day. “Oh, oh I’m coming.”

Kissing my way up to her lips I pull down my jeans, grab a condom and slide it on. Camila licks her lips, and I know my girl’s ready. Sliding into her wet pussy, she groans. Damn, she feels good. Thrusting back and forth, I grab her leg, holding it up to fuck her harder.

“Oh god, Ayden. Yes, yes, oh wow, yes, keep going.” Feeling her muscles tightening around me, we both find our release. Taking off the condom and throwing it away, I climb back into bed with her and bring her into my arms again.

“That was so good,” she giggles and I laugh with her, kissing the top of her head.

“I know the first time we had sex it was sloppy and confusing. I wanted it to be good for you. I always want you to feel good.”

“Anything with you is amazing, Ayden.” She kisses the
tip of my nose and smiles. “Stay the night?”

“Of course. Go to sleep, angel. I’ll be here when you wake up.”

The next afternoon we spend time at Dylan’s house with Bev. His parents are working, and we have the house to ourselves. I hate bringing Camila over here. She’s not used to the way we live. Dylan’s not poor, but his family isn’t rich.

“If you’re not comfortable here we can head back to your house.”

“Shut up, Ayden,” she laughs, hitting my chest. “Dylan and Bev are my best friends, and I like being here with them.”

“I don’t want you to feel out of place.”

“That’s so wrong on so many levels. I wouldn’t feel out of place. I told you that I love them. Why don’t we stop talking about this before an unnecessary argument happens? I’ll make you guys some mac and cheese.”

  “You like mac and cheese?”

“Did someone say mac and cheese?” Dylan yells from the living room. “I have boxes of the instant stuff in the cabinets. And I’m hungry!”

Bev puts her arm around my shoulder. “Go sit down, Ayden, and we’ll make y’all something to eat.”

Knowing that my girlfriend loves mac and cheese seriously puts a smile on my face. I know it sounds ridiculous but I thought she would be into all that gourmet crap.

We have dinner and say goodbye to Dylan and Bev. Walking with her, holding her hand is exactly where I want to be.

“My parents are still gone. Do you want to come over?”

“I’d love that. I like waking up and seeing your face. It’s the best part of the morning.”

She blushes and hides her face. Pulling her back to me, I give her a kiss and we head back to her house.

I did everything for her back then, and I still would do anything for her today.

“Hey, big brother,” I turn into Natalie’s smiling face.

  “Hey, what’s going on?”

She plops down and looks at me, “I was wondering if you wanted to get sushi with me. I want to go to Umi and think it’s time you and I catch up.”

“Sure,” I smile, finishing my glass and picking up her keys. “You mind driving?”

  “Sounds good.”

When we get to the restaurant we choose to sit in the dining room instead of getting hibachi. Settling in and placing our drink and appetizer order, I look up from the menu and notice Natalie’s staring at me.

  “Yes?”

“Well,” she clears her throat, “You and I need to talk.”

  “About?”

“Jason’s doing well in Iraq. He won’t be home for another six months though, and I miss him.” Setting down the menu I listen to her talk about her husband. As soon as Natalie and Jason married, he left for a tour in Iraq. Being a sergeant in the marines, means that his responsibilities for his team are great, and it’s hard for him to contact her. Natalie says this will be his last tour, but this is his career and without peace in the Middle East, it’s more than likely Jason won’t retire.

“We talked for a little bit, and it was nice seeing him. I miss him so much, and part of me is scared that he won’t leave the marines. I know it’s the only thing he knows and it’s his family, but I’m his wife and I love him. I’m supporting him and want the best. It’s not safe for him over there. We had a few weeks to enjoy married life, and he’s millions of miles away from me.”

  “Millions?”

“Okay, really? That’s all you ask me? Ayden, I don’t know what to do.”

I sigh and regret my asshole comments. With Natalie, I try and keep my temper at bay. “I’m sorry. It’ll be okay. It’s hard now, and it’s okay for you to feel this way. He’s fighting for our country and our safety. I know we’re proud of him.”

“I’m proud of him, I just miss him. Can I be selfish for one day and want my husband back? I want to be a mother and grow old with him. I want to know what it’s like to be a wife and have her husband in bed with her. It’s hard and it doesn’t feel fair.”

“Life isn’t fair, and I know this is hard for you to accept. He’ll be back and when he is, you’ll have time to spend with him. Be patient and remember his love for you.”

“Yeah, I am. Thanks, Ayden.” I nod. “Okay, so what’s going on with you and Cam?”

  “Nothing.”

“Oh, come on! There has to be something. I mean are you two going to get back together?”

Taking a sip of my drink, I lean back in the chair. Camila and I have been okay. Nothing has changed. She seems happier and lighter. I’m not sure exactly what is going on with her since we’ve only seen each other when it comes to Grayson. I miss her and think about her. Right now my mind is about the company and ensuring that I don’t lose everything I’ve worked hard for.

“I haven’t thought about it to be honest. Things with the company have been down, and – as you know – I’ve been in meetings trying to save what I’ve built.”

“I get that, but do you miss her?”

“I see her when we take turns with Grayson.”

“And you don’t think about her?”

“Of course I think about her. She’s all I think about,” I mumble. “But things are the way they are. Right now there’s nothing I can do to change it. I’m keeping things civil with her for our son.” Natalie takes my hand, and we sit in silence. Talking about how I feel isn’t easy, and I’m not used to all these damn emotions.

“Let’s order, and I’ll even let you buy me ice cream later,” she winks at me and we carry on with dinner.

At the end of the day Friday, I decide to stay a little longer and get some work done. Grayson’s spending time with his aunts, and I need to finish the report. My cell phone rings on my desk, and I check to see who it is.

Camila: So I got flowers today with a note. The flowers are nice, and sure to dinner, but please nothing about us or our relationship. I would like a nice night with you.

Me: Okay, sounds good. I’ll pick you up at 7.

  Camila: Sounds like a plan.

I ring her doorbell, but the door is open. In front of me is my beautiful angel. She steps out in a fitted, short black dress with silver heels. Fuck. I trail my finger along her arm and feel her shiver.

  “You look beautiful, Camila.”

“Thank you. Shall we?” I nod and lead her out to my car. Opening my SUV door for her I help her in before rounding the vehicle and climbing in behind the wheel. “Thank you.”

  “You’re welcome.”

Camila plays with the radio as I make the drive to Black and Blue. Settling on a country station, If You Ever Get Lonely by Love and Theft comes on.

“Always a country girl,” I laugh, getting on the highway and speeding to the a little more than the limit. “That’s where Grayson gets it from. He’s always calm when I play country music.”

“It’s food for your soul. This song is amazing. It’s so soothing, but the words are so loud. Reconnecting love and second chances, both sides are doing well, but he’s still longing to be by her side when she needs him.”

“I guess.” Not wanting to agree with her, I listen to the song and understand what she’s saying. “Personally, I like old school music.”

Camila laughs. “Yeah, you and your old-school everything.”

“Don’t mock it until you’ve listened to one song.”

“Oh, please, I have. Remember the night we got drunk and listened to Livin’ On a Prayer by Bon Jovi?”

  “That’s a classic!”

“We sang that song a few times and if I remember the night correctly, you kept giving me shots of vodka while we played truth or dare.”

“That was a good night.” I answer, thinking about the night and telling myself shots and Camila don’t mix.

When we get to the restaurant, I have valet park the car and we head inside to be immediately seated on the second floor in a cozy booth. Our server takes both our orders of wine and oysters.

“I miss this place,” she sighs, picking at pieces of bread on h
er plate.

  “You don’t come here often?”

“I used to with Bev, then we stopped. Henry never wanted to come, and I’d order just to pick it up and bring it home.”

“Maybe we can come here every week and sit and talk. We’re friends, and friends do that.”

“That’s true.” She looks in my eyes and smiles. “Thanks for being so good to me, and thank you for being understanding. I like when we can talk instead of fighting.”

“I feel the same.” I don’t say anything else. Our wine and oysters arrive, and Cam wastes no time shucking an oyster and tossing back the sweet meat. “Do you need help?”

“Shut up, Ayden,” she laughs, reaching for another. “So good.”

“It’s a turn on watching you eat.” Camila’s eyes widen, and I take the opportunity to gently kiss her neck. Smelling her sweet scent, I rest my hand on her thigh. Our faces are close, and she’s looking at me. “What would you say if I told you I wanted to fuck you right here?”

  “Ayden…”

Sliding my hand up her thigh I push her panties aside and slide my fingers into her warmth. Her head falls back. “Ayden, you can’t.” But she doesn’t lift a finger to stop me.

The feel of her wet pussy on my fingers drives me fucking crazy. I’ve missed giving her pleasure. Rubbing her clit with my thumb, I massage her pussy and hear her rapid breathing. She squeezes her legs together and repeats my name.

I don’t care if there are people around us. When I want something, I take it, and right now I want Camila’s pussy.

A few moments later, she hangs her head low and squirms in her seat. The server returns asking if we’re okay.

“Wonderful,” I tell her. “I’ll have the twelve-ounce filet mignon, rare please, with a side of scallops and green beans. And she’ll have the lobster tail with a side of scallops and roasted button mushrooms.”

“Excellent, sir. I’ll get these orders in.”

“Thank you.” As the server walks away, I refocus on Camila; she’s sitting upright with her eyes closed. “Are you close?”
