  He shook his head. "Too much trouble. It's easier just to love you."

  "You love me?" she asked breathlessly.

  He nodded. "I do."

  "Wow." She pulled back, looked up into his eyes. "Those two words must've scared you."

  "In the past, maybe." He leaned down, nuzzled his cheek to hers. "Not now with Mata Hari watching my back."
