Max paused. He was not sure if he should tell the gnome about the message from his father. But otherwise, who he should tell about it if not this old man if he was seeking any kind of help. Obviously, Blacksmith could, at least, give him advise. And Max made his mind.

"There was a new message," and Max took out the assistant from his pocket and showed the message to Klovitz.

"Unbelievable!" exclaimed the gnome when he read the message. "Your Father is still alive!"

"Any one could send this message," contradicted Max.

"No, my boy," smiled Klovitz. "Take a look at the ID of the assistant the message was sent from. That's the pocket assistant I enchanted for Jeremy. Nobody can access that device except your Father. The assistant recognizes only Jeremy's voice."

Max's eyes lightened up with hope. That was a good start in his search to know that the message had been sent by his Father and no one else.

"I'm going to find him," said Max. "I don't know where he is, but I'll take part in competitions, win them and travel from dimension to dimension until I find my Father and bring him home."

"Very brave of you," praised Klovitz. "Where do you want to start from?"

"I've signed up for the School League," told him, Max. "I thought I would win it with no effort, but there is one guy, Alex Bastian. He worries me."

"Max, there will always be tough opposition in any competition, even the School League."

"I'm not afraid of the opponents," answered Max confidently. "But Alex tried to threaten me using magic. He attacked me using invisibility. I wonder how he did that."

"Oh, Max," said Klovitz, "there are hundreds of possible ways to gain invisibility. But the question is not he became invisible. The question is: who helped him in that?"

"I was told he's practicing with a chef," Max remembered Alyndra's words.

"Of course, he is," replied Klovitz. "A schoolboy of your age would never be able to cook the potion of invisibility. And it's the easiest way to gain it. Somebody helped him for sure."

Klovitz noticed that Max became thoughtful and concerned with that news.

"But don't worry, Max," Blacksmith tried to calm him. "If you want to become a chef like your Father you will have to deal with such people every day. You have the talent, I feel that. Now, you need practice. I will ask my friend chef Iacob to teach you a couple of tricks."

"That would be great," smiled Max. "Thank you, Klovitz."

The Hive was the most popular restaurant in the metropolis. It was situated in the downtown and attracted hundreds of wealthy and famous people from all over Verdena and outer dimensions. They served any kind of food in The Hive, and that attracted the customers. Giants loved this place because only in The Hive they could have a wholly stuffed peppermint yak. Knights of Aflon used to party here after another victory against their enemies ordering their favorite smoked apricot and basil pigeon with Vodka Murder cocktail. There was a rumor that time to time the restaurant was closed for the regular customers, and ninjas and assassins gathered here to discuss their affairs under a poached vanilla lobster and olive clams.

As always, at this time of the day, there was a huge crowd of people, elves, dwarfs and many other races in front of The Hive entrance waiting for a vacant table. Max got round the crowd and turned to the corner of the building. He approached the back door with a "Staff Only" sign on it. He pushed the door in and entered. It was a narrow and short hallway with boxes on the floor leading to the only door on the opposite wall. He did not manage to make a step when the door opened and a massive bald man came into the hallway.

"You're not allowed here, boy," said the fat man loudly and picked one of the boxes on the ground. "Get out!"

"I'm looking for chef Iacob," said Max.

"And he's not looking for you," cut the man roughly and turned around to enter the door.

"I'm Max. Blacksmith Klovitz..." Max did not even manage to finish his words when the huge man turned back and smiled kindly.

"Max Brooks! Jeremy's son. Of course, Klovitz told me you would come in. I'm Iacob. Excuse me, we're quite busy today. Well, we're always busy," and Iacob laughed louder than he was speaking. "Come, Max, come."

Max walked towards the hallway towards the huge chef.

"You don't mind helping me, do you?" asked Iacob looking down at Max.

"Of course, Chef," answered Max willingly.

And Iacob threw the box down into Max's arms.

"Bring it in," commanded the cook.

Although the box was very heavy and Max barely moved his feet under its weight, he obeyed. Iacob held the door, and Max entered the restaurant kitchen. He looked around with open mouth. The kitchen was huge, and Max could not see the other end of it. Huge lamps lit the kitchen very brightly from high above, and under their light the walls seemed white and the kitchenware shined. Dozens of cooks and their assistants ran back and forth in the kitchen with their white clothes and hats. Various smells and fumes mixed under the ceiling rising up from boiling pots. This was a real kitchen, thought Max.

"Boy," shouted Iacob to outvoice the noise of the kitchen, "no time to yawn. Put the box near the fridge and come over here."

Max found the huge refrigerator and placed the box at the bottom of it. Two boys in white clothes ran up and started to empty the Sanguine apples from the box Max had fetched placing them in the fridge.

"Klovitz said, you are going to take part in cooking competitions," spoke Iacob stirring the quail soup as Max approached him.

"I am," replied Max. "I've signed up for the School League. It starts in a month."

"Good," said the fat cook. "We have enough time to make an omelet out of you. Go ahead, show me what you can do. Chop that ocean pulasan on the table."

Max accepted the challenge and stepped closer to the table was three impressive fruits lay. He smiled, as it was going to be not a hard task for him. Max looked around in search of a knife but was unable to locate one with his sight. He did not think too long, as he reached into his bag and pulled out his red hilt knife. Max took one of the pulasans into his left hand holding the knife the right. As he lifted the knife above his head intending to bring it down to the fruit, he felt his right palm filling with warmth. Max raised his head to see the blade of the knife was embraced by flames of fire. Everybody in the kitchen froze looking at Max.
