Desperate Situations

"What the fu…"
"Shhh," Jake said with a smile. "I carried you this way for over a day while I was injured. I think I can manage to get you into the house without dropping you." He gave her another kiss as he began walking toward the back porch.
He stopped once he reached the door. He looked Megan in the eyes. "The first time I met you, you saved me. You rescued me from a desperate situation. I'm returning the favor. I'm going to turn your 'desperate situation' into a reason for both of us to find love. Is that okay with you, Chief?" He softened the last word as he had been lately.
Megan smiled as she reached for the door handle. Swinging the door open, she looked at Jake. "I can't wait to see what sort of reaction I'll get out of you this time, Cupcake."
Dedication
Inspiration for stories can come from anywhere. This one came from a photograph that was part of a PowerPoint presentation to my writer's group by a Major in the Army who had just returned from Afghanistan. I don't remember his name but thank you anyway.
I'd also like to thank William 'Mud' MacIntire and Mark Doellman, both former military, who were indispensable in helping me with information on helicopters and keeping the helicopters 'real.' Thanks to Ray Ellis, Cheryl L. Maude, and Ruth Seydlitz, my writer's critique group, for keeping me 'real.'
And, as always, thanks to my family.
