A Life Without Fear

So that leads us to the ending of this book. Where do we go from here with most of the major characters killed off or in a coma? The third book, Face Behind The Mask, resolves everyone’s stories and gives a few characters that haven’t had a chance to shine in their moment in the spotlight.

No, Boudreaux is not one of those characters. I already told you, he’s truly innocent!

See you in Book Three, when we bring this sordid tale full circle and give Sam’s story a full and definitive resolution.

  Acknowledgements

When I started working on A Life Without Fear, I really thought it was a one-man show, seeing as how writing is such a solitary thing. Boy, was I mistaken. Unsurprisingly, there are a lot of people to thank for this book:

First off, a massive thank you to Jason Aydelotte, the owner of Grey Gecko Press, for making a reality out of my dream of being an author. As much as I, and pretty much all of the GGP crew, tease him, none of this would be possible without him.

Then I have to thank Hilary Comfort, my editor. Not just for being the best editor I have ever known, but for putting up with me. Artists and writers are notoriously prickly little pears, and I’m no different. So a huge thanks to Hilary for working with me, over email and Skype, to make sure this book got done properly and on time.

Also, a big hug and thanks to Staci Reed, who made the beautiful cover for both this book and The Bourbon Street Ripper. Her art skills are surpassed only by her ability to take a design idea over email and turn it into reality.

Next I have to thank my critique group, affectionately called Team Armageddon, for tearing this story apart page by page and putting it back together. This wouldn’t be possible without you guys. And an extra shout out to Dominick D’Aunno for lending the team his bungalow every month.

A very special thanks to Andrea Reagor, Erik Hailey, Hal Werner, Robert Pevehouse, George W. Padgett, and Jeremy Hochhalter. Without you all, this book would not be around right now. Thank you for believing in my work!

Now for the long list. A thanks to Kristina Hanck for all those long nights of chatting about totally unrelated writing projects whenever the burn on this book would start to sink in. Thank you to Shannon Winton for those just-as-long nights drinking coffee at Denny’s and bouncing ideas around. A special thanks to Lee Lackey for some of the best Sins of the Father-related brainstorming I’ve ever done.

Thanks also to Keri Bas for running the Houston Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Meetup, for without her, I wouldn’t have met most of these people. A thank you to Cherie Campbell for standing around and giving me a page-by-page critique one night—and for letting me pose with Boudreaux. And a special thanks to Vijay Kale and Gini Koch for supporting me as I move forward and to all the fellow writers and readers I’ve met who have made this journey possible.

And of course, a thanks to my family. Thanks to Carol and Gerry, my parents, for always believing in me. A thanks to Sarah and Ryan, my siblings, for telling everyone how cool their big brother is (their words, not mine!). A thanks to Grandma Kay, Aunt Judy, Uncle Ronnie, Aunt Suzie, Uncle Marvin, Aunt Holly, Uncle Mark, Aunt Jolie, Uncle Andrew, Aunt Mary, and my cousins Allison, Jonathon, Jessica, and David. And… wow… I have a lot of family… so thank you to everyone in my family for the support and showing how much you care!

Finally, thanks to Janna, the best wife a guy could have. It’s been a great journey, hun, and it’s just beginning. We’ll make it to Munich yet!
