Hawk smiles wolfishly at her. “Well, that’s a start.” His arms snake around her, pulling her closer towards him as he invades her mouth, kissing her with all the pent-up longing that he’d been feeling. He sends hot kisses down her neck, leaving a trail of fire behind them. She’s glad for his arm around her, keeping her upright as he consumes her. Hawk suckles her breast as she arches up, pushing against him, wanting to feel even more. She’s a writhing ball of need, and it won’t take much to tip her over the edge that’s beckoning towards her. As if he can read her needs like a book, Hawk allows his teeth to graze her nipple, making the buds even harder. The tension that has been building inside of her bursts, and she comes hard, throwing her head back and crying out.

Her legs feel like they’re made of jelly, and Hawk’s hold tightens around her, guiding her towards the bed and laying her down. He looks down at her with something close to reverence.

“I love watching you come. You’re so beautiful, ‘Mel.” He retraces the steps that he’d taken before over her breastbone, her belly, to the top of her panties, and he stops again.

“Hawk, please. Touch me, please.” She lifts her hips, moaning lightly. Her first orgasm hasn’t even taken the edge off of her need. It’s as if she has a bottomless well of lust for this man. No matter how much she has of him, she always wants more.

Hawk doesn’t make her ask again, not this time. He trails his fingers lazily over her soft mound, towards the heat of her core. He dips his hands inside her panties, pulling them aside, wanting to feel her slickness as desperately as she needs him to.

“Baby, you’re so wet.” His voice is appreciative and more than a little strained. Melissa knows that feeling her so excited and ready for him has made it hard for him to keep himself under control.

He strokes her folds, teasing her, making her moan against his hand. He stokes the fire inside of her, his thumb working her clit and making her feel as if she were going to explode with pleasure. His free hand closes over her breast, twisting her nipple lightly as he enters her with one digit and then two. His thumb draws circles around her clit, setting off all her nerve endings. She feels the heat building inside of her, making her feel as if she were burning up from the inside out. He tweaks her nipple again, a little harder this time, and the combination of pleasure and pain combined with the feel of his expert fingers inside of her makes her sit bolt upright, as she climaxes around him.

“That’s my girl.” Hawk’s eyes are hooded with lust, as he looks down at her.

As consciousness slowly starts to seep back into her brain, Melissa realizes that Hawk is wearing way too many clothes. She reaches out to unbutton his jeans, but her fingers don’t seem to remember how to perform even the most basic of tasks. Hawk smiles at her, more than a little proud that he’s done this to her. He shucks his jeans off, and Melissa smiles darkly as she sees that he’s going commando. She vows to try it, knowing how crazy it will make him.

She reaches out to stroke his length. He’s hard as rock, and there’s something about knowing that she’s the one who’s done this to him that turns Melissa on even more. She opens her legs to him, but he waits, his tip poised at her entrance. She wriggles underneath him.

“Tell me that you want it.” His voice is strained, telling her that he’s finding it hard to control himself.

“I want you. Please.” She breathes hard in anticipation, wanting him inside of her.

“What do you want? Tell me, Melissa.” His dark eyes are intense, as he looks down at her.

She licks her lips slowly, enjoying the way his breath quickens as he watches her. She locks her blue eyes with his brown ones that have turned even darker with want. “I want you to make love to me.” She watches as his expression changes from the tension that he’s been holding onto to something close to awe.

She raises her hips to him and, without hesitation, Hawk plunges into her with one stroke. He fills her completely, stretching her and opening her most intimate parts up to him. She sighs, as her body expands to fit around him, only then does he start moving inside of her. He starts slow, but Melissa lifts her knees, pulling him even deeper inside of him, needing him in the deepest recesses of her body.

“Melissa.” Hawk’s voice is a warning, telling her that he’s finding it hard to keep control of how much he wants her, how close he is to his release.

Melissa smiles up at him, enjoying the view as he plunges into her, even deeper this time. He keeps his eyes locked on her, and Melissa watches his expression change as she clenches her muscles, tightening around his cock. He makes a strangled sound in the back of his throat. Melissa, emboldened by her success, does it again.

Hawk drops his head, giving himself over to the sensation, pumping into her, picking up the pace. Melissa moves with him, matching his rhythm, lifting her hips up to meet his with each thrust. They’re both breathing heavily, perspiration coating their bodies as they move towards their sweet release.

“Hawk, I’m close.” Melissa’s words are no more than a whisper; she doesn’t have the strength for anything else.

Hawk thrusts into her, harder this time, as she wraps her legs around him, taking all of him inside of her. He moves faster, making her moan and sending her towards the precipice. It only takes one more thrust to send her sailing over the edge. She arches against him, her cry of pleasure mingling with his growl, as he spurts inside of her, sealing their union.

  CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

Melissa wakes up a few hours later, nestled against Hawk’s chest, his hand cupping her bottom, holding her protectively against him. Melissa has always taken pride in being able to take care of herself. She was the girl who had won every karate competition that she entered. She was independent, strong, and confident, characteristics that she’d honed for years. She had refused to let anyone treat her the way her father had treated her mother. She wouldn’t allow it. So, she’d always be stronger. She’d never need a man, not to make her whole. But everything had changed the night that she’d met Hawk. She’d changed. She could no longer imagine her life without him in it. It wasn’t that she couldn’t live without him; it was just that she didn’t want to have to.

“You’re overthinking again.” Hawk’s sleepy voice interrupts her thoughts, and she chuckles lightly, liking how well he knows her. “I can think of a solution to that.”

She smiles knowingly, looking up at him as she feels him harden against her thigh. “Oh, what’s that?”

“Let me show you.” He takes her by the waist and has her sit on top of him, straddling him. She hovers just above his quivering shaft, making him wait. He raises an eyebrow at her.

“Payback’s a bitch.” She shrugs impishly at him and then squeals as he flips her over, settling her underneath him. “No fair!” She looks up at him, only complaining half-heartedly.

“I never said that I played fair.” Hawk smiles down at her, entering her in one fell swoop, sending her body into spasms of pleasure.

Fair is overrated anyway, she thinks.

“He said, what?” Hawk’s expression turns dark, as Melissa recounts her conversation with Wes from the day before.

Melissa shakes her head at him in the mirror as she gets ready. “I was playing a role; he thought he was going to get lucky. After everything that Josh told me, I was trying to keep him away from the bar!”

Hawk paces around behind her, moodily. “I still don’t like it.”

“You don’t have to like it, babe. You just have to understand that it’s necessary.” Melissa applies a flick of mascara to her long lashes and gives herself a last look in the mirror before she stands and turns around. “What do you think?”

Hawk looks her over, crossing the distance between them to settle possessive hands on her. “You look too good for me to let you leave the room.” He leans down, trailing kisses along her neck and making her shiver.

Melissa relaxes into his touch for a few seconds, before she rights herself again. “Good answer. But I h
ave a date.”

Hawk gives her a warning look. “Not funny, Melissa.”

She smiles coquettishly. “You’re going to be there the whole time; we’ve agreed that. You’ll be able to see what’s going on throughout.” She places a calming hand on his arm. “Just promise me one thing.” Hawk raises his eyebrow, throwing a question at her. “Promise me that you won’t jump on him at the slightest thing? If he gets a little close, then I can handle myself.”

Hawk smiles wickedly. “Oh, I know you can handle yourself, ‘Mel. Did I ever tell you how hot it was when you took that guy down, by the way?” He pulls her in closer to him again, his voice husky.

“You did, but I don’t mind hearing it again.” She smiles as she pulls his head down to meet hers and plants a firm kiss on his beautiful mouth. “So was that your way of making me forget that I’d asked you to make a promise?”

Hawk raises an eyebrow at her. “No, it’s my way of saying that if he touches you, then all bets are off. I’ll rip his fucking head off.” Those words from any other man would sound like pointless posturing, but from Hawk there’s no doubt in Melissa’s mind that he means exactly what he says.

“Duly noted.” Melissa nods seriously, her eyes wide. “Now, we better get going. Felicia said things are quiet at the bar so far?”

Hawk nods. He’s been receiving updates from Josh and Felicia all day. They’ve both been keeping tabs on Wes until she and Hawk could take over.

“Well then, let’s get this show on the road.” Melissa smiles bravely, hoping that Hawk can’t see the nerves that she’s trying to hide. She knows how big this is. If Wes witnesses the drug deal, then they’ll have to make an impossible choice—between the well-being of the club and all its members and Wes’s well-being.

“Hey, it’s going to be alright.” Hawk holds her chin, his dark gaze locked on her blue eyes. “I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere. Whatever happens, we’ll get through it, together.” And Melissa smiles up at him, because she knows that it’s true.

  CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN

“Took you long enough!” Wes says when Melissa finds him in a booth at the bar.

She bites back the sarcastic response. Play nice, Potter. “Sorry, I got held up.”

Wes makes a noncommittal sound in his throat before he seems to take her in. His expression changes, and his eyes get that lascivious look that makes her skin crawl. “You look pretty, Melissa. Is that for me?” His pupils look like pins, and he’s edgy, looking around the whole time.

She smiles at him, hoping that her face won’t crack. “Who else?” She takes a sip of her beer, trying to wash the bad taste out of her mouth. “So what’s been going on?”

Wes goes back to scanning the room. “Nothing so far, but there are a couple of new faces in here, so I think my information’s good. It’s going to happen tonight; I can feel it.”

Melissa follows his gaze and realizes that he’s right. The place is usually full of regulars, but there are a few guys whom she doesn’t recognize. She keeps praying that Wes is wrong, but she hates to think that he might be right. She makes a point not to look at the corner where Hawk is playing pool and watching over her at the same time. Josh is positioned by the door, and Felicia is roving around the tables, delivering drinks and keeping her eyes open for anything suspicious. At the slightest hint that the deal is going to go down, they’re all ready to spring into action.

“So, can I see what you’ve got so far?” Melissa leans over, trying to get a better look at the notes he’s scribbling.

“You show me yours, I’ll show you mine.” Wes grins widely, and Melissa has to stop herself from rolling her eyes. He swipes at his nose repeatedly, as if he has an itch he can’t scratch.

Prepared for this, she pulls out her iPad and shows him the few notes she’d written up that afternoon with Hawk’s help. There was just enough misdirection in there to make it look like it was legitimate information when, in fact, it was just rubbish. Wes drinks it in, pouring over the iPad, but he starts muttering and cursing as he reads it, touching the screen over and over again to the point where Melissa thinks he might actually damage it.

“How were you born in the 90s and you still can’t figure out how to use an iPad?” She leans over and shows him how to scroll through her fake little document.

“I don’t waste my time with things that I don’t consider important.” Wes’s reply is sniffy, but Melissa knows that it’s just a cover for his embarrassment. Technology was one of the things that he had never mastered, and it irked him when it was pointed out to him, especially when Melissa was the one to do it.

That’s when a thought occurs to her, and it’s a light bulb moment. “So does that mean that you don’t back up your notes?” She keeps the question casual, intent on keeping the intensity out of her gaze.

“For what?” Wes lets out a sound of frustration, as if she’s just asked him yet another stupid question. “I know exactly where they are—right here.” He pats the notebook on the table. “That’s another reason why paper is so much better than switches and keyboards; you know where everything is, and there’s no way it can just disappear on you. Computers are temperamental; paper and pen are not.” He gives her a pompous look, as Melissa processes the information. No backup means no recourse if his notes were to suddenly get lost. But how is she going to get them away from him when he seems to carry them with him wherever he goes. It’s like they’re surgically attached to him.

Melissa is distracted by a flurry of activity at the bar, and she’s not the only one who has noticed. Wes is focused on the three men at the bar with a laser-like gaze. It’s happening. The deal is going down right in front of them, and it’s happening so quickly that there’s not enough time for any of them to do anything about it.

“This is it! This is it!” Wes watches the conversation, and Melissa can almost hear him holding his breath as the men confer before heading out of the door. “Dammit, where are they going? I need to see the actual exchange. I need a picture for the article.” Wes doesn’t bother to keep his voice down, and Melissa doesn’t have time to worry if he’s been overheard. He grabs the bag next to him and his bundle of notes and rushes towards the door after the group of men—with Melissa just a couple of steps behind him.

“There.” He points a finger at the corner of the parking lot where the men are headed. “Oh man, this is it. This is going to be my big break.” Wes is so excited he’s almost hopping from one foot to the other, something that does nothing to keep him off the radar.

“Wes, if you keep jumping around like that someone is going to see you and get suspicious.” Melissa doesn’t add, what said person might to do Wes if they see him. She follows behind him as he creeps up closer to where the drop is happening and lifts his camera, snapping off a few shots as a few boxes are exchanged for a full garbage bag. One of the bikers reaches into the bag and pulls out a wad of cash. Melissa hears Wes let off another click. “We need to get out of here before they see us.” Melissa keeps her voice low, and she starts pulling Wes away from the action. The damage has been done already, but she has no intention of sticking around for the moment when the dealers realize they’re being watched.

“Just a few more seconds, Melissa I need to get these details down.” Wes opens up his notebook, scribbling frantically as if his life depended on it.

“Wes, come on.” She tugs at the camera strap around his neck, harder this time.

“Alright, alright.” He follows her lead, backing slowly away from the guys making the deal and heading back towards the bar. “Man, this is it. This is gold. The Caged Kings, they think they’re something special, but they’re not. They’re just criminals and—not only that—they’re stupid criminals, and now I’m going to nail their asses to the board.” Wes gets carried away with excitement, and Melissa has to resist the urge to punch him while she frantically tries to figure out what to do now that Wes has everything he needs to go public with the Kings’ story.

  “I don
’t think so.” A familiar husky voice sends her insides ringing with anticipation. Melissa looks up to find Hawk and Josh both standing just to the side of the entrance to the bar.

Wes looks nervous, edgy even and positions himself so that Melissa is between him and the other men. My hero, Melissa thinks.

“Hey guys, what’s going on?” Wes shoots for casual and fails miserably.

“I don’t know, Wes, why don’t you tell us?” Hawk leans back against the wall, looking the picture of relaxation, but Melissa knows better. He’s poised for action, ready to spring if necessary. “What’re you doing with that?” Hawk nods towards Wes’s camera that looks like it’s something from prehistoric times. No doubt it was an antique bought for him by his rich parents.

“Oh, nothing.” Wes himself seems to realize that this explanation really isn’t going to cut it with Hawk. “You got me!” He holds his hands up. “Photography is kind of a hobby of mine.” He smiles sheepishly. “It’s a little geeky, I know.”
