  His child.

She removed his hands from her and kissed his fingers. Then she drew him down and kissed him soundly on the mouth. She tasted of cool water and his beloved Anya.

When she pulled back, her eyes shone with joy and love. He’d never seen her so happy. And he’d seen her very happy in the past weeks. “Did you hear me, Riggs? We’re going to have a bairn.”

“I heard you.” A slow smile stretched his cheeks. “We will be the first parents to welcome a child into the world since Travis’s birth.” Elation sang through his blood. He picked up his lifemate and swung her around. Then immediately regretted it. “I didn’t hurt you did I?”

“Of course you didna hurt me. I’m no’ an invalid. I’m with child. I’m with child!”

He was going to be a father.

Hope for his people lifted him like a refreshing wind. A child. Half wolfkind, half human. The birth would be celebrated by all Marann. No, by the whole world.

Boy or girl, it didn’t matter. The child represented hope. Maybe this was the turning point they’d been longing for.

The world would be revived. Because of Anya.

He’d thought Danu had blessed him above all men for giving him such a brave, beautiful, passionate woman. If the goddess’s blessing was an iceberg, he had the feeling he’d merely experienced the tip.

The servant pup came through the door with their morning tray.

“Travis,” Riggs said. “Go get Magnus. We have news to share.”

  A note from the author

Thanks so much for reading The Wolf and the Highlander. I hope you enjoyed it. This novel is the second in my Highland Wishes series, which begins with Wishing for a Highlander and will continue with The Witch and the Highlander. Though the books are in a series, they can be read on their own as well.

  About Jessi Gage

Jessi lives with her husband and children in the Seattle area. She’s a passionate reader of all genres of romance, especially anything involving the paranormal. Ghosts, demons, vampires, witches, weres, faeries…you name it, she’ll read it. As for writing, she’s sticking to Highlanders and contemporaries with a paranormal twist (for now).

Jessi can often be found having coffee at one of the neighborhood coffee spots she frequents, or indulging in sweets with The Cupcake Crew, her wonderful critique group. The last time she imagined a world without romance novels, her husband found her crouched in the corner, rocking.
