Spencer paced and rubbed the back of his neck, then shoved his hand through his hair. “Damn stubborn woman.” His tone was fond. “I just wanted to be there for you. It’s called being supportive… No, my wife wouldn’t have had a problem with me being there for you.” Spencer looked at Regina. “She trusts me.” He smiled, then frowned. “Yes, I did take your advice.” Spencer listened again, and chuckled. “No need to gloat. I’m not the one who thought I was coming onto them.” He was silent, then laughed loudly. “No, I’m not going to let you live that down.” Spencer shook his head. “I’ll see be seeing you soon. Okay, bye.” He hung up, the smile still on his face.
Regina studied his expression and thought of the conversation she had heard, which had confirmed that Spencer and this Lila were indeed friends. “You seem very close to this woman.”
“Yeah, we are. She’s smart, savvy and has a warped sense of humour.” Spencer slung his arm over her shoulder, pulling her against his side, then got them walking again. “She reminds me a lot of you.”
“That’s interesting.” Regina titled her head to the side. “Has Driscoll met her?” She was proud she didn’t hesitate or flinch when she said his name.
“Not yet. I do plan to introduce them.” Spencer chuckled. “I can picture it now. I think she’ll be shocked to meet him. He’s going to knock her off her feet.”
That Spencer was going to introduce her let Reggie know that he did consider Lila a close friend. With Driscoll being who he was, they were cautious of who they introduced to him. Regina hadn’t met Lila, but from what she’d gleaned from their conversation, she thought Spencer was wrong—Lila was the one who would surprise Driscoll. He was used to being the one in control, and she’d love to see someone make him lose it. She glanced back towards Jennifer’s house and made a mental note to introduce Driscoll to Jennifer. At the neighbourhood party, Regina had spent a lot of time with Jennifer, and since she and Driscoll had been avoiding each other, she didn’t think they had got a chance to meet. Jennifer would be a good match for him. Shake him out of his calm. She stilled as she realised what she was thinking—she wasn’t on good enough terms with Driscoll to be thinking of introducing him to anyone.
“Reggie, are you okay?”
“I’m good.” She forced a smile. “I’m wondering if you’re hugging on me so hard because you think I’m jealous?” She felt her smile become more genuine. “Because I’m not. I’m looking forward to meeting her.” She paused briefly. “Unless there’s a reason you wouldn’t want to introduce us?”
“No reason at all. I’ll do it when I get a chance.”
Regina stared at him.
“I will. Now let’s continue our walk.” Spencer said. He released her then slid his hand around her waist and led her on for their walk.
Regina stifled a smile. Knowing her husband as she did, she didn’t believe him for a minute. Now more than ever, she was curious about this woman he was friends with.

A few days later, Regina looked over at Spencer. He was reclining on the other end of the couch from her, engrossed in the TV.
“Why don’t you invite Lila over for dinner?”
“She’s working today,” he said absently.
“You know her schedule?”
“I saw her yesterday morning at the hospital and she mentioned it. She doesn’t usually work weekends, but she’s covering for one of her employees.” Spencer jumped up, gesturing to the TV. “Stupid fucker. Look at that ref, Reggie. He must be blind.”
Regina looked and saw her team score. “You’re going to owe me a foot rub.” Regina wiggled her toes. “I love hockey, especially when I’m right.”
“Gloating is not part of hockey.” Spencer flopped back on the couch. “I’m glad the referee of our games isn’t as blind as that one.”
“You were just like that when you won your last game.” Regina patted his hand. “You all really need to stop the gloating dance. The other teams are going to beat you all with their sticks.”
Yesterday, Spencer’s team had trounced their opponents. His team were in sync, and they were good at what they did.
“Dakota did a good job coming up with the dance.” Spencer grinned. “Dris is working on a song to go along with it.”
She frowned, recalling seeing Driscoll as well as Stuart from a distance—neither man had come over to her and Spencer when they’d arrived, as they would have in the past.
“I’ll make sure to walk with bail money. I envision that next time you all dance then include a song there will be fight and you all get arrested.”
“There are a few cops on both sides of the team so they can help us out.” Spencer shrugged.
“Or you all could be good winners and not do anything to gloat.”
“That’s part of the fun.” Spencer smirked then laughed. “Hell, last time the other team won, we had to all go to a bar and wear heels. I have no clue how women do it. Those things are torture devices.”
“Heels?” Regina’s eyes widened. “You, Dakota, Driscoll and Stuart in heels. That I would have loved to see.” Regina leaned over to him. “Tell me there are pictures.”
“If there were, there are not any longer.” Spencer shook his head. “They miraculously disappeared.”
“Humph, meaning someone stole them.” Regina shook her head. “You all are so bad.”
“I know not of what you speak.” Spencer kissed her briefly. “What are we having for dinner anyway?”
“We haven’t even had lunch yet?”
“But you’re the one who said to invite Lila. So you were thinking on dinner already.” Spencer glanced at the TV.
“Not what we are having, but having her over. I didn’t mean today.”
“Okay.” He waved his hand. “I—”
His cell rang. Regina leant back against the couch, already recognising the ring tone. Spencer looked at her and picked up the call. “Jacobs.” He listened then replied, “I’ll be right there.” He disconnected the call. “I have to go in. It shouldn’t be too long. But I’ll probably miss dinner.”
“Okay.” She rose.
Spencer stood and headed to the living room entrance. She followed him to the front door. Spencer grabbed his message bag hanging on the hook by the door. She took it from him and put it over his neck and settled it across his body then smoothed her hands over his shirt down his chest.
“See you later.” Spencer kissed her.
Regina leaned against him then smiled. “Be safe.”
He nodded before opening the door and leaving. She punched in the alarm code to reset it before she went back to the living room and looked out of the window. Spencer was almost to his truck—he looked back and waved. She returned it and watched as he got in and drove away. Regina turned on her heels and headed upstairs to change. Minutes later, she grabbed her purse and keys then went out to the front door to her vehicle.
Half an hour later she strode across the lobby of the precinct, approaching the front desk. The receptionist looked at her askance.
Regina spoke to the lady. “Li—”
“Regina.”
She didn’t recognise the voice of the person who spoke. Regina turned and saw the stunning woman coming towards her. She wondered who the rich-honey skinned lady was. As she got closer she saw the woman had hazel eyes and her reddish brown hair was pulled away from her face. Her hair colour was similar to her own—Regina remembered Spencer’s description of Lila and in that moment it dawned on her that she was staring at the woman she had come to see. The woman’s dark brown with pale yellow piping suit was impeccable and fit her perfectly. Regina lifted an eyebrow, recalling Spencer’s voice when he’d spoken to Lila. There had been warmth and caring in his tone.
“Nice to finally meet you.” Lila put out her hand. “It’s good of you to come see me.”
“You too.” Regina shook it briefly. “But what makes you think I’m here to see you?” Although it was true, Regina wondered how she knew.
“Process of deduction. I could only think of two reasons you could be in this side of the Delko Street Precinct.” She ticked them off on her fingers. “One, to identify or confirm identity of a body. Two, to see me.” She ticked them off on her fingers. “I don’t think you’re here for the first—there aren’t any unidentified bodies here today. Well, another could be that you’re lost.” Lila smiled. “Are you possibly lost?”
“No. Here to see you.” Regina studied her. “How’d you know who I was?”
“Spencer showed me a picture of you.” Lila stared at her then said, “And I said to myself—there is one gorgeous woman. She has her shit together with a sexy-ass husband and is so lucky. She wouldn’t feel threatened by any other woman and think they are trying to take her husband. She wouldn’t come to their workplace or home to warn them off when it isn’t necessary. Nope, that woman is confident in herself and didn’t need to do that sort of crap.” Lila’s gaze was steady. “At least, that’s what I myself thought. My instincts are usually right. But I wonder if this time I was mistaken.”
“You’ve got good instincts.” Regina smiled widely. “And you’re blunt. I like that. I wanted to get to meet you. If I waited for Spencer, it’d be a long time. He tends to stall on things when he isn’t sure how I’ll react.” Regina laughed. “I think he is afraid of us meeting.”
“Why would he be afraid of us meeting?” Lila frowned.
“Because he knew I’d like you.” Regina shrugged. “Then we’d become friends and plot of ways to misbehave.”
“And he would be right.” Lila smiled. “Do you have a tendency to misbehave?”
Regina’s mind flashed to the night before in their bedroom and she tried to still a shiver.
“Oh, that look. I so don’t know you well enough to ask what it is about.” Lila laughed then said, “But I’m betting I will. And my instincts are usually good.”
Regina chuckled as she repeated what she’d said earlier. “And they are good this time too. Have you had lunch yet?”
“Nope. I had a pick up so was planning to order in.” Lila gestured beyond the desk. “You’re welcome to join me.”
“I’d like that,” Regina said.
They went towards the desk. Lila got her a pass to get in then they were buzzed in and walked towards the elevator.
“Good thing I saw you when we were pulling in.” Lila pushed the button. “The receptionist would have told you I wasn’t in.”
“We?”
“One of the others working today who went with me. They drove the van and are unloading the body.”
Regina imagined it was a gruesome task. “How do you work in an ME office?”
“I enjoy figuring out the puzzle of what killed someone. Giving the police as much as I can to get them justice.”
Regina nodded. They entered the elevator and she continued to get to know Lila.

Spencer opened the kitchen door then went to turn off the alarm before realising it wasn’t on—one of the things it meant was that they had a guest. He heard the murmur of voices and headed towards the living room. He paused by the entrance and stared surprised when he spotted the two women together. They looked at him and the expression on their faces made Spencer shake his head.
“Reggie, I see you met Lila. Lila, I see you met Reggie.” Spencer approached them. “And from the look on your faces, you are planning ways you can misbehave.”
The women shared a mischievous grin then started laughing, leaning against each other.
“Yeah. I knew it.” Spencer rolled his eyes. “Lila, don’t let Reggie corrupt you.”
They laughed louder. He smiled, enjoying seeing Regina so happy and carefree. She’d been a little distant since her revelation but was slowly getting back to her old self.
“We were just planning dinner.” Regina rose and came over to him. She kissed him briefly. “We decided if you made it home you would make us dinner while we drank wine and instructed you what to do.”
“Had plans for me, huh.” Spencer chuckled. “I’ll make dinner, but you all stay out of my kitchen,” he warned. “I’ll be back in a few minutes to get dinner started.”
After going upstairs to clean up and change clothes, Spencer went to the kitchen. He heard the laughter and talking but not was being said before he entered. He went to the island facing them and glared playfully at the two women who were sitting at the kitchen island.
“I thought I told you two to keep out of my kitchen.”
They smiled widely and lifted their wine before sipping.
“I’m not going to get rid of you am I?” Spencer sighed. “Fine, but no back seat cooking.”
“That only works when driving,” Lila said.
“And he loves to do that,” Regina said.
“Really. I would never have thought that,” Lila replied dryly.
“What do you mean?” Spencer frowned.
“You act all laid back, Spencer, but I’ve seen you in the hospital. You want things a certain way and you get it done. Not through being controlling but making suggestions. And people jump to do it for you since you are such a good man.”
“I don’t make people jump.” Spencer scowled. “I just ask and they do it.”
“I didn’t mean there was anything wrong with it. Just that you get things done with a minimum of fuss. That’s a good thing to have when you’re a boss, especially when some of the high pressure situations you’re in need a calm and organised head who will get things done. Someone people respect.” Lila shrugged. “That’s you.”
“And you too. I’ve seen how you work too.” Spencer looked at the container with the marinating meat. “People do the same with you. It’s fun to watch them snap almost to attention when you come by. They all want to please you.”
“Snap to attention.” Lila laughed. “I like that.”
Spencer lifted the container. “I guess we are having steak.”
“Yes and wild rice.” Regina said. “Lila, he makes this to-die-for wild rice.”
“If it’s as tasty as the rice he gave me a few weeks ago, I can’t wait. What was it called again?” Lila took a sip of her wine.
“Camargue red rice from southern France,” he said absently.
“What is that? Where did you learn of it?” Regina sipped her wine, leaning back on the high back stool.
“Dris told me.”
“Ah…he likes to experiment with cooking.”
“Who’s Dris? And if he cooks so well, I want to meet him.” Lila frowned. “Wait, you said your brother made the food?”
“Yes. I want you to meet him.” Spencer opened the container and placed it on counter by the stove. He grabbed a frying pan.
“Really? I wondered if he even existed. You acted so weird about even mentioning his name, or much about him.”
Spencer looked at Regina and they laughed.
“What’s so funny?” Lila looked between the two of them.
“Remember your words about weird when you meet Dris,” Regina answered.
“And that’s all you’re going to say. Now I’m wondering if I want to meet him.” Lila laughed. “Who am I kidding? I like a good mystery and now you have me curious.”
“Curious is good.” Regina lifted her glass then lowered it. “Oh, Lila and I were talking about Thanksgiving and I invited her to come. So it’ll be us, Jennifer and Lila,” Regina said.
Spencer nodded. As the women talked, he started to cook. It didn’t dawn on him that Driscoll wasn’t on her list until he’d almost finished cooking. He glanced at Regina chatting with Lila and decided to ask her about it later.
* * * *
Later Spencer towelled off and called out to the bedroom, “It was nice to have Lila over.”
“She’s fun. I like that she’s blunt.”
Spencer laughed. “I knew you would.” He placed his towel on the rack and glanced to where he had placed his pyjama bottoms. He frowned when he didn’t see them then walked into the bedroom
“Did yo—?”
Spencer stared at the curvaceous naked woman propped up on one elbow reclining on the bed.
“Are you looking for this?” Regina held up his bottoms then flung them to the floor. “Come to bed, Spence.” Regina lay down and lifted her legs wiggling her toes. “I want that foot rub. Use that.” She pointed.
Spencer glanced at the bedside table and saw the familiar bottle. He went rock hard. He went over and picked it up then leaned over and kissed her thoroughly. Regina grabbed the back of his head, holding him. He pulled back and went to the foot of the bed kneeling between her legs. Regina widened her legs to give him space. Spencer licked his lips as he saw her bare pussy and imagined the taste. Regina put her feet against his upper legs.
“I’m waiting.” She dug in her toes, sliding them on his legs.
Spencer stifled a moan. He opened the lotion and inhaled the scent of coconut. His erection bobbed. Regina moved her foot and rubbed her toes along his cock.
Chapter Eight
Spencer ran his fingers up her leg. She curled her toes and purred. He smiled and lifted her foot, kissing her toes. Taking the bottle, he popped open the top then squeezed the smooth cream onto his hand and dropped the bottle beside her. The smell of coconut became stronger and he hardened even more. He brought his hands together and spread the lotion between them then, with slow, deliberate movements, he smoothed his hands along her toes, paying particular attention to between each. He kissed each gently after he rubbed the cream into them. Regina shifted restlessly on the bed. Then he moved his touch upwards rubbing the cream along her legs getting more lotion to smooth his way as he continued his upward caress—rubbing then kissing her legs. Spencer nuzzled her upper thigh.
“Spence.” Her breathless voice made him smile.
Taking some more cream, he rubbed it between his hands then slid his hands between her legs. Moving them apart, he placed the lotion on her inner thigh. Regina arched into his touch, moaning. He lowered his head and inhaled, taking in her sweet scent—a mix of lotion and the smell that he equated with Regina, sexy and tantalising. Regina rocked against him, groaning and widening her legs. He stared at the temptation of her glistening slit then lay down between her legs and kissed the soft flesh.
