  `Oh, yes?' One brow quirked.

  `Can you translate Latin?'

He could be forgiven his start of astonishment. 'I might—provided it's not a complete Virgil. But what's that to do with it?'

`I don't know. I'll go and fetch it.' She hurried to get the bane which had clung to her so closely for nearly six whole weeks and settled herself back happily in his arms. 'It's Ocky's answer to your quotation.'

He studied the uneven inscription for a few moments, then said wryly: 'This takes me back to hours in the form room I'd prefer to forget. It's a slightly inaccurate extract

from the Odes: "Seize today and put your trust in tomorrow—then leave the rest to the gods."' He smiled, tossed the cast on the floor, and took her back into his embrace.

`Yes, it's very neat, but I can still go one better. Come on, Columbine, let's leave the rest—to us!'
