“And how has the big man taken all this?” McCarter asked.
Brognola smiled. “With an extremely satisfied look on his face. I think he’s a little disappointed at the lack of response from North Korea. He was getting himself ready to have a slap-down fight with the Koreans. I think he likes being able to hold all the cards.”
“North Korea lost big this time around,” McCarter said. “They are not going to be happy about that. Somewhere along the line, they’ll try again. If it isn’t with a pulse weapon, it’ll be something else.”
“We have to be sharper from here on in,” Brognola said. “Make sure we back up allies like South Korea. They’re on the knife edge.”
“Like Kayo Pak. A bloody good bloke. I’d hate to have to hear if he got taken down.”
Price said, “Talking of good guys, I checked on Oscar Kalikani. He’s still on sick leave. Making a slow recovery.”
“Pol was telling me about him,” McCarter said. “Sounds like the kind of guy you want on your team.”
“Did he tell you about Kalikani’s partner?” Price said, a mischievous smile on her lips. “Pol is very enthusiastic when he talks about her.”
“Officer Lopaka? Now there’s a lady I wouldn’t want to upset.”
Brognola said, “I get the feeling Hawaii might be on Pol’s vacation list sometime soon. And not just for the sunshine.”
“Can’t keep a good man down,” McCarter said.
“I could say that about the Stony Man teams,” Brognola added.
Price pushed back her seat and stood. “While you two indulge in some well-earned backslapping, I have work to do.” She turned as she went for the door. “Any thoughts about revisiting North Korea, David?” she asked, a sparkle in her eyes.
“If things get slack around here, I might take you up on that,” the Briton said, “but only if I’m really bored.”
