Ship of Ghosts

“Lost what?” said Aeryn.
“The furze!” cried Rygel. “I’ve lost the furze! My acolytes! Without the furze my acolytes will no longer hear my thought-voice!” He wrinkled his brow and screwed up his eyes until beads of sweat burst out on his cheeks, but nothing happened. “You see? Not a conga line on the whole ship! I’ve been robbed of an empire a second time—my empire of DRDs! I am going to hold my breath until I turn pink, and then I am going to have a sulk of epic proportions! Epic!”
“I think,” announced Crichton, “things are returning to normal.”
He thought of exactly how far from normal things sometimes were, and how places that had once seemed so far from home had become more familiar, and even beloved. And then he turned away to get back to his quarters for some Zs.
