3. THE USES OF PSALM 118 IN SEFER SHIMMUSH TEHILLIM
The Sepher Shimmush Tehillim gives numerous different uses for this, the longest Psalm. It is broken down into twenty-two divisions, each of eight verses corresponding to a Hebrew letter.
Aleph (verses 1-8) pronounced in a low and even tone over a man whose limbs quiver and shake. Also for those who wish to keep a vow.
Beth (verses 9-16) in order to receive an open heart and a good memory and also a desire to learn and an extended intelligence. On a Thursday evening, after fasting the entire day, shell a hard-boiled egg carefully and write the eight verses of this division as well as Deuteronomy 33:4 and Joshua 1:1-8 and the holy names of the angels, Chofniel (ChPhNIAL, ‘Overshadow me Mighty God’), Shuvniel (ShVBNIAL, ‘Turn me again, Mighty God’) and Mupiel (MVPhIAL, ‘Out of the mouth of Mighty God’). A prayer is also written on the egg. Then the egg is inserted whole into the mouth and eaten whole and when it is eaten, the first four verses (9-12) should be repeated three times.
Gimel (verses 17-24) in order to heal a seriously injured eye, when prayed seven times in succession.
Daleth (verses 25-32) firstly for an injured left eye, as above and secondly, for a lawsuit or a difficult change of profession. Repeat these verses eight times in succession. But if you wish to receive information and help from many people to achieve a mission successfully, repeat ten times.
Heh (verses 33-40) written on deerskin parchment and hung around the neck will prevent a man from committing sins.
Vav (verses 41-48) will ensure an obedient nd willing servant if spoken over water and given to them to drink.
Zain (verses 49-56). There are two properties. Firstly, when written on small piece of parchment with the holy name Raphael (RPhAL, ‘Healer of God’), it will lift the melancholy and heal a person who has become splenetic. It will also relieve severe itching on the side. Bind it over the part of the body where there Spleen lies. Secondly, when repeated eighteen times, it will help you withdraw from an undertaking that has been recommended to you by evil counsellors that promises evil results, without injury to yourself.
Cheth (verses 57-64) will cure severe pains in the upper parts of the body if spoken seven times over wine and given to the sick person.
Teth (verses 65-72) to take way hip pain or cure severe kidney or liver complaints. Pronounce eight times over a patient.
Yod (verses 73-80) to find favour with God and mankind when prayed at the close of each morning's prayers.
Kaph (verses 81-88) to cure a dangerous sore or burning swelling on the right side of your nose, when prayed ten times over the sore.
Lamed (verses 89-96) pray the night before you are summoned to appear before a Judge in a lawsuit and you will be justified.
Mem (verses 97-104) for pain in the limbs and paralysis of the right arm. Pray seven times for three successive days over the arm.
Nun (verses 105-112) to accomplish a journey in safety when prayed a few days in advance, after morning and evening prayers.
Samekh (verses 113-120) for receiving a favourable outcome to a petition from a superior.
Ayin (verses 121-128) similar to the division of the letter Mem, but now to heal pain in the left arm or hand.
Peh (verses 129-136) similar to Kaph, but this time to heal a boil or swelling on the left side of the nose.
Tzaddi (verses 137-144) for officials to give just and correct decisions, when asked of their knowledge and services. Pray three times before giving your decision.
Qoph (verses 145-153) to cure a painful and dangerous injury on the left leg. Pray over rose oil and anoint injury with the oil.
Resh (verses 153-160) pray over onion water or juice to cure a painful and constantly running boil in the right ear. Drip one drop into the ear.
Shin (verses 161-168) to cure severe or burning headaches. Pray three times over pure olive oil and anoint the place where it hurts the most.
Tav (verses 169-176) as for Resh, but to cure a boil in the left ear.
Also for those who are afflicted with pain in both arms, in the sides and in the legs at the same time should repeat the whole Psalm, reciting each division of eight verses in the following order. This remedy is apparently infallible: Aleph, Tav, Beth, Shin, Gimel, Resh, Daleth, Qoph, Heh, Tzaddi, Vav, Peh, Zain, Ayin, Cheth, Samekh, Teth, Nun, Yod, Mem, Kaph, Lamed.
For searing pain in the loins, make knots in magical water at the end of the Psalm in the names of: Adam, Seth, Enoch, Canaan, Mahalleel, Jared, Methusaleh, Lamech, Noah and Shem.
4. PENTACLES FROM THE KEY OF SOLOMON THE KING
These Pentacles are numbered based on their position in the book The Key of Solomon the King by S.L. MacGregor Mathers, Redway, 1889 (available in various editions). This book was a compilation from seven different manuscripts of the Key of Solomon including Lansdowne MS 1202. Note the planetary sequence was adjusted by Mathers to follow the Qabalistic sequence down the Sephiroth of the Tree of Life from Binah (Saturn) to Yesod (Moon).

6. PLANETARY HOURS
The planetary hour
s are attributed in a set sequence to the days of the week, with the hours of daylight (and night) divided into twelve equal quantities (which are usually more or less than an hour long). For more details of how to calculate planetary hours see Practical Planetary Magick by David Rankine & Sorita d’Este, Avalonia, 2007.
