“Yeah, I heard about that,” Joey replied, “I don’t know what to make of it.”
“Do you think it’s his?”
“To be honest with you, I’m not even sure.” Joey remembered the picture of Elena Eli showed him. The girl had no D’Amato features whatsoever. “I don’t think the girl looks like him, though.”
“So you think she’s lying?”
“I wouldn’t go as far as saying she’s lying,” he shook his head, “honestly, Ma? I don’t think she’s even sure herself. I would say I find it very suspicious she came back after all this time, though. Something about the whole story just doesn’t sound right.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know,” Joey shrugged, “I just have a really bad feeling her suddenly coming back into Eli’s life is not so much she wants her daughter to have a relationship with her father but some other monetary gain.”
“Eli’s a multimillionaire,” Nicola replied, “she stands to gain thousands, possibly millions in child support.”
“No, that’s not what I’m thinking,” Joey replied. “I think this woman’s interest is more sinister.” He paused as he watched his brother handle another client. “I think she’s coming back into Eli’s life because she wants to destroy it.”
“And if she destroys Eli,” Nicola’s eyes burned with anger, “she’ll destroy all of us.”
“Bingo,” Joey replied, “if she really wanted to gain money from Eli, she would’ve contacted him the moment she gave birth.”
“So what now?” Nicola asked. “What do we do?”
“We’ll wait for her to make the first attack which should be coming soon.”
“And then what?” She asked. “We attack her back?”
“No, we won’t attack back.” Joey chuckled. “We’ll simply desecrate her.”
