My husband and I made a trip back to Maine in October 2017 to do book research. My awesome bonus mom—we lovingly call her Mama Maria—gave us a guided trip through the beautiful state of Maine. From Rangeley Lake to Cape Elizabeth, it’s a trip we’ll never forget.
Although we witnessed absolute beauty in Maine—and we saw a lot—there was also a lot we couldn’t see, like the content of Maine and what it’s like to live in the state of Maine. That’s why, when we returned from the East Coast, I needed a woman from Maine—specifically, a game warden’s wife—to be a test reader. It took me three months to message Emily MacCabe. I was nervous. I wasn’t sure if she’d even respond to my message. But it didn’t take her long. Emily, I’m so grateful for your time and your invaluable input.
