“How many is that exactly? And where did you hide them?”

He held the door open for me and we stepped inside past security. I showed them my badge and was taken through to a back room while Craig and Alec waited with Jamie. There were two men waiting for me and I took it all in stride. This was pretty typical, clearing your weapons with security first. Weapons in general weren’t allowed in most buildings, but we had called ahead to be cleared and explained the situation.

“So,” the first guy smirked. “You’re the personal protection for a man worth a half a billion dollars?”

The man wore a nice suit, perfectly pressed and ready to shine. “Yes, I’ll be by Mr. Hanson’s side the entire time. I currently have six weapons on me.”

The second man closed the distance behind me and brushed up against my backside. I quirked my head to the side, pissed off that these guys thought they could intimidate me. When his hand brushed against my hip, I may have lost control.

I snatched his hand and bent back his wrist. He crumpled to his knees and I flung my elbow back, hitting him in the nose and breaking it. I heard his cry of pain and adjusted my gaze on the second man who was already reaching for me. He had the nerve to try and get his hands around my neck. I slammed my head forward, cracking my forehead against his face. He stumbled back and I kicked him in the chest, sending him flying into the wall. He crumbled to the ground, whimpering in pain.

Picking up my purse that had fallen to the ground, I opened the door and walked out, my heels clicking on the tile floors as I made my way back to my team. Jamie’s eyes were wide as he looked me up and down.

“You may want to go check on your men,” I said to the security agent in front. “They seem to have had an accident.”

The man rushed to the back and I slid my hand into Jamie’s, giving him a reassuring squeeze. But when I went to move toward the elevators, he stood stock still.

  “What?”

  “You have…blood on your face.”

Alec handed me a handkerchief and I took it, pulling out my compact from my purse to check the damage. I had blood splatter from breaking the guy’s nose all over my face. I dabbed and cleaned myself up and tucked it all back in my purse.

  “Ready?”

He just stared at me. “What? We had a disagreement about where he could put his hands.”

Jamie released my hand immediately and I rolled my eyes, strutting away toward the elevators.
