The End
Southern Fried Sautéed Cabbage
1 head of cabbage, cored and sliced into 2 in. square pieces
1 sweet onion, sliced, “half” the rings
4 TBSP butter
pinch of white sugar
salt & pepper to taste
Heat large sauté pan to medium heat and add butter. When butter melts, toss in your cabbage, onions, sugar and season with salt and pepper. Depending on the size of your pan, you might want to add 1/3 cabbage and onions at a time until they soften. Cook until glazed brown.
Serve warm alongside a basket of Delaney’s cornbread.
Talk about southern comfort food, this is it! For a truly genuine southern treat, use oil instead of butter and fry a few strips of bacon in the pan, first. Fry them up until they’re toasty brown and then break into smaller pieces. Or how about skip the bacon and simply use your bacon fat for frying? Another variation includes substituting squash for cabbage.
