“Good news,” Wyatt said. “And I think I’ll leave you two alone.”
“Sure,” Matt said without taking his gaze from Vivian. “Let’s say our goodbyes.”
“I’ve told everyone goodbye except Mary Catherine and Julia. Let’s find them.”
She hugged them in Matt’s former bedroom, which was now a playroom. Toys were scattered on the floor and Lita sat in a chair watching all the children.
“Come tell me goodbye,” Vivian said, hugging Mary Catherine. “I’ll call you tonight. I love you.”
“I love you,” Mary Catherine said, kissing her.
Matt picked Mary Catherine up to kiss her and she hugged him, kissing his cheek and telling him the same.
They kissed Julia goodbye, said their goodbyes to everyone else and dashed through a barrage of balloons that were set free as they ran to his pickup.
Matt raced away from the farm and reached over to hug Vivian.
“Watch it. I’ve already smashed into one of your trees and I don’t want to do it again.”
He slowed, stopping and turning to pull her to him. “Vivian, I’m the luckiest guy on earth,” he whispered. “You’ve rescued me from my solitary life.”
“Maybe we rescued each other.” Her heart pounded and she clung to him, knowing she couldn’t have a more wonderful husband or a better father for her girls. “My Galahad in blue jeans...”
