Broken Promises

by S. K. Lessly

“My mother was none the wiser until her boyfriend and his team raided the house. She said she was devastated, heartbroken to know she had been used. He had placed a listening device on her and got enough info to bring her uncle down. Needless to say, she became enemy number one in her family. They even put a hit out on her, but another uncle, the second in command it seemed, killed the order. Instead, they banished her. Took everything they gave her and left her with nothing and no way to get back home. Plus, he put out word that she wasn’t protected anymore. Her life was then in danger. The family might not kill her but others loyal to the family would.”

“Holy shit, this is… like textbook romance novel type stuff except this clearly didn’t have a happy ending. What happened to her? Obviously, she got back home.”

I rubbed her thighs more so for me than to comfort her. “She found her way to the embassy and started yelling and screaming that her life was in danger because of her own government. She said she’d go to the press and even called them. They showed up at the embassy dying for the full story on an OP that was supposed to be secret. She threatened to tell it all, so naturally her boyfriend showed up. He paid for her to get back into the states but once she was there, he told her he didn’t want anything to do with her. What they had wasn’t real. He said he used her to get to her family.”

“What an asshole!” Lexie said bitterly.

“Yeah, my mom was bitter and hurt and angry, as you could imagine. Then a month later she found out she was pregnant. She tried to reach out to him and didn’t hear from him. What’s even crazy, she stumbled upon him a few months later at some restaurant in D.C. She was working as a waitress he walked in with his wife and children. That was the last straw. She quit on the spot and moved to Delaware, and the rest you know.”

“Damn, Ethan. I’m sorry but your dad is a tool. A grade A fuckwad.”

I chuckled; I couldn’t help it. She was adorable when she cussed.

“So,” she went on, “who is this horrible human being that would use a woman and cheat on his wife to benefit his cause?”

And there was the question. I squirmed a bit in my seat before I said slowly, “O’Leary Brandon Isles Wolf the third. But you just know him as Brandon Isles.”

She frowned, got quiet and took in the name I gave her, digesting it. I stared at her waiting.

When it clicked, her eyes grew.

“Holy fucking shit! Your father is the deputy director of the CIA?!”

  I nodded. “That he is.”

“Holy shit! I mean what do you do with that information. What did you do?” she asked then she took in my expression and cringed. “Oh, no don’t tell me. You went all Jack Bower on him, didn’t you?”

I laughed and shook my head. Ever since we stumbled on an old TV series called 24, she had been obsessed with Jack Bower. She even named our son after the character. I had to admit; the character was a beast. He got answers from terrorists using any means necessary. He was borderline psycho, but he was efficient, loyal, vicious, deadly and my kind of man. Lexie said I reminded her of him, when I interrogated her and her ex. I didn’t respond to her notion. If she only knew that time, I was being nice, she would probably run for the hills.

  “Hey.”

I blinked and focused on my wife. She was back in my lap now, her hands on the sides of my face. “Did you reach out to your sperm donor?”

I slipped deeper into my chair, placing her directly over my now growing erection. I started sliding my hands along her bare thighs, around to her ass and squeezed.

  “I did.”

“Okay, and how did that go?”

I shrugged, leaned her toward me and kissed her neck. “It didn’t. Apparently, the DDCI doesn’t take appointments from his estranged son.”

“Okay, but how…ummm…do you know he’s really your father?”

I closed my eyes and kissed my way up her neck to her jaw. I allowed my body to relax completely, inhaling her scent, absorbing her taste. She started circling her hips against the hardness inside my shorts. Her hands ran up my bare chest.

“Ethan,” she whispered half groaning half moaning.

“Yes, baby.” I buried my hands underneath the sheet she had covering her heavenly body from me and traveled my hands all over her supple body.

Since the twins, she had developed curves that I couldn’t get enough of. She claimed she needed to lose weight. I had told her if she did, I’d ban her from my dick forever.

Alexis pulled back from me and met my dark eyes. “Tell me the rest. How do you know he—”

"Baby, do you really need to ask? Just know I have proof that he’s my father.”

“And you went to his office, demanding to speak to him?”

“No, I asked to see him. I knew he didn’t have shit on his calendar. I checked. I told his assistant I needed a minute. I gave him my name, using my mother’s last name Clarke then Wolf. His assistant lied and said he wasn’t in the office. I kindly clicked my watch and showed him footage of his office with him sitting at his desk watching a video feed on his computer, of me no doubt.”

She groaned and shook her head. “You didn’t.”

I narrowed my eyes. “You damn right, I did. And well you can guess what happened next.”

  Lexis shook her head.

“Don’t give me that look. I warned them. They should’ve listened.” I held her with a heated stare before I smirked.

  “You’re such a bully.”

  “Eh, they deserved it.”

Three security guys had come out of a side room, ready to escort me to the basement for interrogation. They believed I was a threat, which I understood. And low-key wanted. After all, I went there knowing I would have to be aggressive. He wasn’t just going to come out, open his arms and say, “Son!”

No, I would have to make a statement. I kindly told them I wasn’t going anywhere with them and if they touched me, I’d break their arms. Let’s just say they didn’t listen.

Lex moved off my lap and studied me closely. She then sighed and asked, “How much damage?”

I shrugged. “Not much. A few broken bones, the usual arms, legs, wrists. But I warned them not to touch me. They should’ve listened.”

  “Blowback?”

Did I say I loved my wife? This woman was made for me in every way a woman could be tailored for a man. She was tailored for me.

“There may be some. I wasn’t exactly neat when I beat the shit out of those goons.”

“And did he come out of his office?”

I shook my head and pursed my lips. “Nope. But no one else came to escort me. I dropped off the envelope with the results of the DNA test and left. The man has a family. I get that. And fuck, the way him and my mom parted was fucked up. But I felt the need to introduce myself. Let him know I was on this earth. I wasn’t sure if he knew I existed or not, but he does now. I would’ve preferred a civilized introduction, but he didn’t want to play it that way.”

Lex, who still looked at me as if I was crazy, grinned at me.

She shrugged and stood. “Well, if he doesn’t reach out to you then fuck him. He doesn’t deserve you.”

  I chuckled. “Thanks, baby.”

“Now,” Lexie dropped the sheet from around her body and showed me her beautiful naked curves and valleys. “Are you going to make love to me before our…” She trailed off just as a little voice started calling her name. She growled. I laughed.

I stood, walked over to her and picked up the sheet. I wrapped it around her body and lightly kissed her nose.

“Don’t worry, baby. Get Arya settled back in the bed and I’ll let you suck me off before I crash.”

“Oh yeah? I’m a suck you off alright!” She growled and punched my chest.

I laughed and kissed her pouting lips.

“I love you, baby,” I confessed, my lips inches from hers.

  “Uh-huh, whatever. See you upstairs.”

I watched her disappear into the house and started to fo
llow when my smart watch started to buzz. I looked down at the small screen and realized the motion detector on the road to this house was triggered.

I frowned, hit a few keys to bring up the footage and sure enough a black sedan, with government plates was heading this way. I walked quickly to the small table next to the lounge chair and pulled the 9mm Glock 17 I kept underneath the table. I checked the mag and made sure it was full. I slammed it back, removed the safety and changed the indicator from semi-automatic to automatic. I chambered a round and made my way off the porch to meet my guest.

As I rounded the corner of the house, the car was already pulling into our circle driveway. I stood there waiting my hand gripping my weapon tight.

The car stopped, the engine shut off and a beefy man stepped out of the driver side. He gave me a hard glare before he ambled to the back of the sedan. The tension in my body eased a bit. I had a feeling I knew who this was, but I didn’t put away my weapon. Anyone with balls enough to come here unannounced deserved a bullet, especially if they were from the government.

A tall stocky man with short, reddish gray hair and steely gray eyes stepped out of the back of the sedan. He patted the shoulder of the driver and stepped around him.

He was dressed in a black suit, expensive, with a crisp looking white shirt. The man exuded power and confidence. I could feel that shit from where I stood.

The man stood as tall as me with the same built. The hair color was slightly different, and I had my mother’s eyes. But everything else, the strong jaw, mean stare and air of danger matched my own were very familiar.

Fuck. If I didn’t have the test to prove it, I’d still would have believed this was my father.

“Hello, son,” O’Leary Brandon Isles Wolf greeted, once he was a few feet from me, his voice deep and strong.

I kept my cool, even though my heart was pounding in my chest. I knew, after this moment, my life would change. Would it change for the better? Only time would tell.

I heard the front door of the house open and I looked back to find Alexis and my daughter standing on the porch.

I turned back to the man responsible for my existence.

“Hello, father,” I returned, allowing a small smile to surface along my face. “It’s great to finally meet you.”
