He squeezed my waist. “Like me? With patience and understanding?”
“They wouldn’t and you know it. They’d be scared to death. They’d want to burn me at the stake. That’s what we do to things we don’t understand. We attack. It’s human nature.”
“I think you underestimate us,” he said.
“Trust me, Sawyer. You’re the exception and not the rule.”
“Then maybe think about it differently than you have been. Don’t worry so much about other people and whether or not they’d accept you. Focus on accepting yourself first and the rest will follow.”
“I’m a work in progress, Sawyer.”
“Aren’t we all?” He took my hand. “Let’s go downstairs. I’d like to see the kitchen where you’ll be cooking my gourmet meals.”
“What?” I asked with such force that he burst into laughter.
He pointed at me. “You should see the look on your face. Priceless.”
I cupped his rugged jaw in my hand and squeezed. “Rule number one of having a supernatural girlfriend. Don’t aggravate her for your own amusement.”
“Or what? You’ll shoot those flames from your eyeballs and extinguish me?” He threaded his hands through my hair. “What’s rule number two?”
I tipped back my head to see him better. “Kiss her often. Because she deserves to be kissed by someone who knows how.”
A slow smile spread across his face. “I think I can manage that.”
