"Well, I already gave you your gift," Damon said to Katherine and her eyes were filled with love as she touched the diamond bracelet around her wrist.
“I know, so now it’s my turn.”
She pushed herself off the floor and told us she'd be right back. We listened to her running up the stairs, everyone sharing confused looks but of course, I was faking mine. I already knew what her gift was for Damon.
She came running back downstairs and I threw her a wink the boys wouldn’t notice. She swallowed hard and held a hand out to Damon who looked utterly confused. I got up and moved to the sofa beside Steve as Damon got to his feet, his blue eyes trained on his wife.
“Damon,” Katherine started, “we’ve been together for five years now and it’s been simply amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better family and you’ve given me the greatest gift, our son Nathan. It’ll be you and me until death do us part baby but just to make sure you can’t run for the hills,” she moved her other hand from behind her back and opened her palm, revealing two rings, “will you marry me?”
“Did you know about this?” Steve asked me his dark eyes glossy as he was close to tears and I nodded, wiping at my own teary eyes.
Damon wiped at a tear rolling down Katherine's cheek and kissed that very same cheek, "Of course I'll marry you, baby."
More tears began to roll down her eyes as they kissed and I realized this was something I want. I want a family and a kid and as I turned to look at Steve and found him already watching me I knew he was thinking the same.
“We’re next baby,” he whispered softly, “we’re next.”
