I was overcome by emotion then, from the feeling of being in Flint’s arms again as he slipped off my clothes, his kisses warm and slow across my form. Every inch of my body was in his purview, his mouth leaving nothing undiscovered until he turned me over, his mouth again on the small of my neck.

I moved against him, my body arching to meet his crevices with mine as he again began the journey down my frame, pausing to nuzzle the crevice of my cheeks until he was at my feet, my big toe in his mouth.

The sensation sent a frisson of pleasure through me and I moved onto all fours, drawing him up to position his body against me, making me into the animal he was.

His hands reached around to cup my breasts, and I tipped my head back to meet my lips with his again, sighing delightedly when he found himself inside me. One of his hands teased at my most swollen parts while the other kneaded my hard nipple.

I pushed back against him, a cry echoing through the room as I felt him fully inside me, meeting every part of me. Never had anyone fit so rightly and I knew I’d never let him go again.

Instantly, I was consumed with a heat that I couldn’t ignore, my fingers closing around the pillows as I fell face first into the sheets. A quiet grunt fell from Flint’s mouth as he realized I’d already met with my climax, his movements growing harder until he, too, fell on top of me, the sweat of his skin melding with mine as he spasmed with his release.

We were one in that moment, all forgiven and forgotten as I relished him and he relished me. We belonged together, of that I was sure, even if it had taken me some time to get there. I would never forget it again.

“Who did that door?” he asked lightly when he’d finally regained his breath. I laughed as he rolled off me, propping himself up on one arm to stare at my face. I also turned over, my head cocked on the pillow to take in his near-perfect features.

“Kea and Lowell found a door in the garage and they did it while I was sleeping,” I explained. “They know they didn’t do a good job but I was grateful to have them last night.”

He watched me silently for a long moment.

“You could have had me, too, last night,” he reminded me and I knew he wasn’t saying it to guilt me. He wanted an explanation and he had every right to one. It was why I’d called him there and I wasn’t going to run from him anymore.

“Margot, I love you,” he told me before I could even begin to tell him what was on my mind. “I can’t stop thinking about you, even when I’m frustrated. All I want to do is protect you.”

“I love you too, Flint,” I breathed, hearing the near anguish in his voice. “And that’s one of the main reasons I do—because you’re my rock. You’re always there for me, no matter what happens. I know I sometimes test your patience but you never balk.”

  He gave me a half-smile.

“Oh, I balk. You just don’t see it,” he joked, but I sensed the truth in there.

“You’ve helped me work through some things I didn’t even realize were haunting me,” I continued, rubbing my foot against his. “From the day I met you, you have opened my eyes to a whole slew of issues I didn’t even know I had.”

“I don’t know if that’s a good thing,” Flint laughed.

“It is,” I assured him. “I didn’t realize how much my past had stunted my future growth, how much I’d let fear overcome my life, but from the minute I met you, I had no choice but to confront my terrors and overcome them. I can’t live my life in a bubble, worried that something might hurt me. There are risks in everything we do, but if we never learn to trust, our lives would be very lonely.”

Flint gave me a crooked smile.

  “That’s very wise,” he said.

“That’s Kea’s advice,” I replied lightly. “She might be less immature than you think.”

  “Really?”

  I nodded.

“Anyway, Rene’s abuse took a terrible toll on me. I thought that once he went to prison, once I got my divorce and walked away from Quebec, I would be free, but the truth is, your demons follow you everywhere until you exorcise them.”

“You can’t run away,” Flint agreed, pulling me closer to him. “And I’m glad you realize that.”

I popped my head up to look him in the eye.

“I wouldn’t have if not for you,” I insisted. “And I’m looking forward to seeing what other lessons you’re going to teach me in the future.”

“I’m looking forward to introducing you to my son,” Flint said. I blinked and grinned happily.

  “Really?”

  He nodded.

“He’s happy that I’ve found someone to care for.”

“Lowell really loves him. I’d love to meet Davis.”

“You can meet all the other shifters—if and when you’re ready.”

“Now that I know the shifters are inherently good and not out to hurt anyone, I would love to meet them,” I replied and I meant it. I knew I had nothing to fear from any of them, not with Flint on my side.

“I’m not going to let anyone hurt you ever again,” Flint swore but it was unnecessary. I knew intrinsically that he would always protect me and it was the best feeling I’d ever known.

“You know what else I’m ready for?” I asked, lowering my voice as I dropped my face closer to him.

“What’s that?” he asked, his eyebrows raising with some amusement. I answered him by crushing my lips to his and he instantly took the bait, rolling me over to straddle me from the top.

“I love you, Margot-Celine Doucette,” he muttered between kisses as I guided his hand down my body.

“Je t’adore aussi, Flint Locklear,” I gasped and meant it from the bottom of my heart.
