“I don’t think Her Majesty will be happy about that kiss, Leo. It was too heated, and it lasted too long. She may not like our public display of affection. We probably broke a protocol or two.”
He snorted even as he continued to smile and wave at the people. “My parents and Isaac made a bet about us among themselves, but I have no idea what the specific bet is all about. My mother has no place to talk about protocol.”
Tristan laughed out loud. “Your family is a hoot.”
Leonardo rolled his eyes. “They’re your family now, too.”
“That’s true. This still feels like a dream sometimes.”
Leonardo chuckled. “I hope you wake up soon. After the coronation ceremony next year, I’ll be the King of Gefrington, and you will become the King Consort. Are you ready for that?”
Tristan shook his head. “I’m not sure, but I’ll have you by my side. I think I’ll be fine.”
Leonardo turned to face his husband. “Regrets?”
“None. I love you, Leonardo Emerson Winthrope.”
“And I love you, Tristan Quinn Winthrope, until my final dying breath.”
As Leonardo leaned forward to give Tristan yet another passionate kiss, the crowd that gathered outside the palace roared their approval. He ignored them as he wrapped his arms around Tristan’s waist and deepened the kiss. He never thought he would fall in love after his failed marriage to Elaine, but as he felt Tristan’s palms flat on his back and his husband’s lips over his own, he could feel the love growing stronger inside him with every passing second. Maybe it was true what people said about love. It came when you least expected it to, and he was one of those fortunate people to be blessed with it. Their lives together were just starting, but he was going to treasure every precious moment. Always.
