*************
Noah awoke to the sound of a ringing phone. Disoriented, it took him a while to determine where the sound was coming from. He pulled his jeans to him with his foot, and fished it out of his pocket with his eyes still closed. Hurriedly he answered in a gruff low voice, hoping not to wake a sleeping Amaris. She was still curled up in his arms.
“Hello?” Noah said groggily.
“Wake up Agent Constance. We have a problem,” said the voice on the other end.
The sound of his director’s voice pulled Noah from his revelry. His eyes snapped open. He sat up fully awake, and jarred Amaris in doing so. He mouth an apology before heading toward the kitchen.
“What’s going on?” asked Noah.
“There’s a leak. We don’t have any hard details yet, but we’re pretty sure it’s someone on the case feeding Jinx information,” said Cohen.
A series of emotions rushed through him, the heaviest of which was rage. If there was one thing he hated, it was a traitor.
“What do you know so far?” asked Noah. With a leak involved, there was no telling what information Jinx had access too.
“We’re still exploring the intel. Turns out, Jinx is real spiffed about Ms. Scott being moved. He was mumbling his complaint to his roommate. When asked what he was going to do about it, he said he wasn’t worried. He got someone doing the job for him. Hinted at them being FBI. I need your ears and eyes open on this one. As of this moment, all Intel I have is need to know. If you see anything suspicious, just let me know,” said Cohen.
“Got it. Keep me updated on what is going on,” said Noah before ending the call.
He popped open a bottle of apple juice and took a long gulp. He had some suspicions s to who the leak was, but with no proof he’d keep his suspicions to himself. The prospect of a leak meant he’d have to work even more diligently to keep Amaris safe. He looked in the direction of the sofa were he’d left her. Amaris sat up on her hip. She held herself up with one arm while wiping her face with her other hand. She couldn’t have been more beautiful. Her lips were still swollen from their extensive play. Her soft body curved and dipped in all the places that Noah liked and his cock started to stiffen again.
“What’s wrong?” asked Amaris.
“Nothing sweetheart. I’ll take care of it,” said Noah.
“Who was that calling?” she asked.
“Just Cohen’s. Checking in,” he said. “It’s nothing to worry about.”
Her voice was barely above a whisper. It was clear that she was still very sleepy, and Noah didn’t want to worry her. He went back to the sofa, laid back down and pulled her body back atop his. Amaris settled against his chest and it wasn’t long before he heard the soft breath of her falling back asleep. She moaned softly as she drifted. Noah held her close. He pressed his chin to the top of her head as he thought of what was to come. Noah had never worked a case where there had been an internal leak, and he knew that criminals would sometimes lie in jail to promote their status. He’d met Jinx once and that didn’t seem like his style. It frustrated him having to consider these things on the tail end of his night with Amaris. He didn’t want to be reminded of the dangerous risk he’d taken by blurring his private and professional lives. Noah had a hard time regretting it, but knew he’d have to set new boundaries.
Noah was inclined to believe that Jinx wasn’t bluffing. He looked down at a sleeping Amaris and rage grew in him for anyone who would come after her. He’d been serious about his work before the night they shared together. Now, he’d be damned if anyone was to get near her. Eventually, he would have to tell Amaris that the tides were turning, but not before he knew more. His director was a good guy and would do everything he could to sniff out the leak, but Noah had a stronger nose for these types of things. If his suspicion proved to be right, there would be hell to pay. His wolf howled inside of him, eyes glowing golden. Noah would take out anyone in his path in order to keep Amaris safe, at whatever the cost.
