Edmond scoffed before wiggling out of her hug and shifting into a fox.
Lupine shook her head as she came to stand opposite me. Despite finding the kid, her shoulders were still hunched up toward her ears.
The poor woman was a ball of stress.
“I can’t thank you enough,” Lupine said.
“You look after all these orphans?”
She nodded.
I had an understanding of what it was like to be a child with no family. Sapphire had been an orphan in foster homes. I had been raised by my sister because my parents came and went.
Lupine was doing amazing, clearly stressful, work by caring for these kids.
“You deserve some relaxation. I might have something to help you. A few things, actually.” I pulled my backpack off and dug around in it for the spelled book, Love Blooms. I wanted to return magical items to people who could benefit from them. Lupine might be the first.
She took the book. A couple of kids jumped up and down to glance at the cover of a woman in flower underwear. That sent them into a laughing fit.
“A cheesy romance?” Lupine said.
“Give it a try. If that doesn’t work…” I found one of my cards in my pocket and handed it to her. “Come to my shop. It’ll help you relax.”
Two identical girls came up to Lupine, one pulling at her clothes in an attempt to get her attention. “Edmond is going to run away,” they said in eerie unison.
Oh great, creepy twins. Lupine definitely deserved some relaxing sexytimes.
“No, girls. He already has,” she said with a sigh. “Good attempt, though.”
“No. He’s about to run off again.”
Looking up, over the heads of the other children, Lupine swore once more. “Got to go. Thanks again for your help,” she said, putting the book into her bag before jogging after Edmond.
