It might have been phrased as a question, but it wasn’t one I was supposed to disagree with. Any hope of getting Tucker down there for the demo disappeared. Closer inspection of Riley’s face hinted at something close to fear.

Was he worried I’d say no? Was he frightened of his partner? So far, there hadn’t been much mention of the other man. There’d been talk by some of the more loose-lipped Dom’s about Riley bowing and scraping to his partner, but I hadn’t got close enough to witness their interactions. The thought of getting to see who else was working behind the scenes was too tempting to ignore.

I plucked at my lower lip. “I need hemp rope? Do you have any?” I showed him my empty hands. “Because I’m clear out of it tonight.”

Riley’s smile brightened. “I’ve sent Vic to go and buy several different kinds. Hopefully you’ll be able to make do with what we have.”

I hid my distaste at his disregard for what Shibari was all about. It wasn’t about making fucking do. I smiled. “Getting to pick from your buffet tonight is going to be fun.”

Riley’s steps faltered, his arm slipping from around my shoulders and his gaze not meeting mine. My pulse was skipping like a wayward child.

“Erm, no… You won’t get to pick. It’s already been decided who you’ll be using for the demonstration,” he croaked out.

What the fuck was that about?

I raised one brow and tilted my head to pin Riley with a questioning stare. “What? That’s not how it works. I get to pick who I play with.” There was a hint of anger in my voice. “I’m paying through the nose, Riley, for the choice. You get my drift?” I crowded the other man to make my point and let him know I was dominant.

He tensed, his gaze darting around the room as if he was looking for someone before it finally returned to me. “It’s not my choice. The Master has made the decision tonight. Come on, you’ll have a good time. And I’ll make it up to you, what do you say to me waiving one month’s membership fee?”

Money was the motive behind everything here, the fact he would give away a grand just to let the ‘Master’ pick meaning something. The question, though, was what? Was there something going on here I wasn’t aware of? Had they somehow figured out what I was up to?

Sweat slicked my palms, the urge to argue tempered by years of training to defend myself, and the small gun I had tucked in my boot. “Two months,” I growled.

Riley smiled and then slapped my shoulder. “You drive a hard bargain, you mother fucker, but it’s a deal.”

The moment he opened the door to the cellar, we were greeted by the sound of men’s laughter. It sounded like a party was going on. I stepped into the packed room, sucking in a breath as I worked on maintaining my composure. Where were all the subs?

The walls were bare, the chains and cuffs hanging against the red wall glinting in the bright lights. The room held only Dom’s tonight. There was a mixture of men I’d seen before, but there were several faces I hadn’t. I calculated there to be about thirty men. I tried not to show any interest in them while I searched for the man Riley had referred to as “Master.”

No one stood out from the rest. They were all dressed in leather and looked like they’d come to play, their excitement sickening. Did these men not realise that Shibari wasn’t about inflicting harm? The tension riding my upper back increased, my shoulders starting to ache. These fuckers were going to be seriously disappointed, and what would that mean for me?

Riley pointed to the stage, where a Tetruss Maxximus Rig had been placed at its centre. It was the one I’d mentioned I liked to use, and had in my own home. It had to have been planned. There was no way they could have managed to source the rig in a day. Could they?

With my stomach doing cartwheels, I walked casually through the throng of men and towards the stage, acknowledging those faces I knew. Riley followed. I could smell his sweat. At the edge of the stage, Riley placed a hand on my arm.

I paused to look at him, his earlier fear long gone and in its place something dark. “They’ll bring the sub up now. Let the fun begin.”

My eyes narrowed as Riley glanced towards the back of the room. I followed his gaze to where a man stood in the shadows, his face masked. I swallowed, regretting it when Vic appeared with a sub through what I’d never have suspected was a doorway, a part of the wall sliding back to reveal a compartment. Was that where they kept the subs? Saliva stuck in my throat as it closed up, thoughts running through my head at the speed of light.

  Was this a set-up?

How had they figured out that I knew this man?

  No, it couldn’t be him?

The last was a truth I desperately wanted to believe, my heart attempting to burst from my chest. My gaze slid over the man, who was no longer the vibrant, energetic one I’d come to…

The thoughts disappeared as familiar eyes met my gaze, reaching into my soul and tearing it from my body with his anguish and despair. His lips moved. “Save me.”

Had I heard the words or had I just imagined them? Vomit coated the back of my throat as my pulse hammered at my temples, throbbing while I blinked. A tiny margin of hope that I was wrong forming inside me.

What the fuck was I going to do now?
