  “And keep quiet.”

Right. Because Zephyr and Denver were somewhere outside. It should have made me blush, but instead, it only stoked the flames inside me higher.

Christ. I needed to get laid.

I let my bra drop to the floor and Cavendish wasted no time ducking his head to capture one of the buds into his mouth. A soft moan spilled from my lips as he bit down gently. “Quiet, remember?” His warm breath was like a feather over my tingling skin.

“It feels so good,” I whispered, hardly surprised at the way my body responded to his touch.

  “Cav, Ky, what are you—”

Cavendish grumbled something under his breath as he stood up; his hard gaze going over my shoulder.

“I should have known,” Zephyr didn’t sound pissed, merely amused.

I glanced over my shoulder. “Do you mind? We’re kind of busy.”

He ran a brisk hand over his head, his eyes not leaving mine. “I think I’ll stay.”

  Stay?

  “You can’t—”

“It’s cute you think you’re in control here.” He stepped further into the tent, taking the air with him.

  “Zeph, man, come on.”

The two of them shared a look I didn’t understand.

“Fine, fine!” Cavendish conceded, but over what, I still wasn’t sure.

“Is someone going to tell me what the hell is going on?” I snapped, feeling my pulse spike.

  “Just relax, we’ve got you.”

  We?

He’d said we, as if this thing between us would involve the three of us.

Heat flooded my stomach. I’d thought if anything burned me alive, it would be the raging fireball in the sky, but no, it was going to be two of the boys I’d grown up with.

“Fuck,” he ground out as he came to stand beside Cavendish. “I can’t believe you’ve never been touched.” His eyes appraised my body in a way that made me feel terrified and excited all at once.

“Don’t just stand there looking at me.” The words spilled out, shocking us all, but Zephyr’s mouth curved up in a wicked smirk.

“Oh, we don’t plan on it.” He shucked off his jacket and pulled his t-shift over his cut body. My eyes greedily drank him in. He might have only been twenty, but Zephyr Dalton was all man.

My mouth dried, as his pushed his pants down his hips and kicked them off.

  “Cav, we doing this?”

“I, uh, yeah.” I smothered a laugh watching Cavendish quickly strip so we were all standing there in nothing but our undergarments.

Zephyr kneeled, crooking a finger toward me, and I went willingly. He drew me into his warm body, winding a hand around my braid and pulling gently to guide my mouth to his. His kiss was like the fireball blazing down on us; hot and deadly and with the potential to burn me alive. Our tongues swirled together with fiery passion.

“Fuck, that’s hot,” Cavendish rasped from somewhere behind me and then he was there, his almost naked body pressed up against me, his hands roaming over my feverish skin. I reached behind me, desperate to touch him; gasping when I grazed his rock-hard dick. Zephyr broke away to see what had distracted me, his brow arching devilishly. “This time there won’t be anything between us,” he said as if it—us—was a forgone conclusion.

“Is she wet?” he asked Cavendish over my shoulder, his dirty words sending tiny bolts of electricity zapping through me.

Cavendish slipped a hand to the waistband of my plain black panties, dipping inside and gliding through my wetness. “Soaked,” he answered, his voice cracked with desire.

“More,” I panted, trying to arch into his hand, desperate for him to relieve the ache building there. But Zephyr grabbed Cav’s wrist, pushing him away.

“My turn.” His fingers replaced Cavendish’s, but whereas my best friend was gentle and tentative, Zephyr didn’t hesitate, pushing two fingers deep inside me. I cried out only to have him swallow my moans. Then Cavendish was there, his hands gently kneading my breasts, his mouth sucking and nibbling along my collarbone.

“Lie her down.” Zephyr’s command barely infiltrated the pleasure haze enveloping me. But then my body was pulled back, Cavendish looming over me, his pupils dilated, and nostrils flared. And his hand, Christ; he was palming himself, rocking into his fist. I’d never seen anything so erotic, and before I could stop myself, I’d reached out to touch him; but Zephyr covered my body with his much stronger, much larger frame. His hard length pressed right up against my core. He leaned in, licking the hollow of my neck before claiming my mouth.

“This will hurt, but only for a second.” His hand cupped the back of my thigh, spreading me open for him. I peered down the length of my body, watching as he hooked my damp panties to the side and slowly pushed inside me.

“Fuuuck,” he drawled. “You’re so fucking tight.”

“Zeph—” I gasped, overwhelmed by the feel of him, the sharp stab of pain radiating through me. My hand flew out to grab Cavendish, but instead of offering the comfort I needed, he guided it to his erection, tangling our fingers together to show me how he liked to be touched.

The world as we knew it had ended. Civilization was ruined. And we were searching for our last hope, unsure of what we’d find, when—if—we made it. I had blood, dirt, and Christ only knew what else, caked on my skin, matted into my hair, but there in the floor of our tent, Zephyr and Cavendish made me feel desired. Beautiful.

They made me feel like a woman.

“More,” I moaned, my hips rising up to meet Zephyr’s every time he rolled into me. “I need more.”

  Everything.

  I needed everything.

The sounds of our moans, skin slapping against skin, filled the tent. There was no way in hell Denver hadn’t heard us. But I didn’t care. I couldn’t; not when waves of pleasure so intense washed over me. Again and again.

Zephyr hooked my legs around his waist, driving into me with long measured strokes. He was too good at this, too skilled. Or maybe I just had nothing to compare it to. But one thing was for sure; I already knew I wanted to do it again. And again.

“What’s funny?” he asked me, breathless, his skin flushed.

“I’m just thinking about next time.”

“Fuck, Ky,” he smiled, dragging his bottom lip between his teeth. “If you’re thinking about next time, I’m not doing it right.” He picked up his pace as if he had something to prove. My head rolled to the side, my eyes wide and lips parted, hardly able to breathe as he slammed into me over and over. Cavendish still worked our hands up and down his dick; his jaw tight, head thrown back in pleasure.

“I’m close,” he grunted, his movements growing jerky. Without thinking about it, I pushed up and leaned over, licking the tip of his shaft.

“Shit, Kyra.” His eyes flew open, but I wanted more, taking him further into my mouth. He thrust forward, groaning my name over and over and I swallowed greedily. He fell backward in a satisfied heap while Zephyr demanded my attention once more. His hand slipped between us and I screamed as he pinched my clit, my world shattering around him.

He dropped his face to the crook of my neck, kissing the skin there as he crashed right over the edge with me.

“That was...” I swallowed, trying to find the words. “When can we do it again?”

The guys chuckled, Zephyr rolling off me, leaving a sticky wet trail inside me.

“Do what again?” Denver’s head stuck through the tent door and his eyes went as wide as saucers. “Guess I missed out on all the fun?”

Cavendish threw a sleeping bag over me and I ducked my head beneath it, suddenly feeling embarrassed.

“Too late for that,” Zephyr said, amusement laced in his words.

“Piss off,” I mumbled, lifting my hand above my head to flip him off.

“You love us really,” Cavendish said, and my chest constricted, stealing the air from my lungs. I knew he meant it in jest, but his words struck a chord with me.

  I didn’t love them
now, I knew that. We were friends. The best kind. We needed each other to survive. That bonded us together in a way that transcended love. But I could see myself falling for them. For Zephyr’s dominance and Cavendish’s kind soul, even Denver’s humor. But that wasn’t real life, was it?

The girl might have ended up getting the guy, but she didn’t end up getting all three guys.

  Did she?

  Chapter Five

  Day 743

I suppose I should feel different.

  Like a woman.

  I don’t.

I still feel the ache between my thighs, a dull soreness that reminds me of what I did.

  What we did.

  Me, Zephyr, and Cavendish.

It had been like nothing I’d ever experienced, their eyes on my body, their hands touching and exploring. The look of complete bliss on Cav’s face as he jerked off to Zephyr fucking me. They made me feel alive. Reminded me that as long as we have each other, we have hope.

When Denver had stumbled in on us, I’d felt embarrassed, but the guys acted like it was just business as usual. They’d laughed and joked for a few minutes before cleaning up and settling down for the night. Now Denver and Zephyr are playing a game of gin rummy while Cavendish reads his dog-eared copy of Moby Dick. I feel them watching me though, their intense gazes brushing over me. But they’ve all given me space tonight. Time to reconcile what happened between us.

  What’s happening.

Because I don’t doubt it is the start of something. Something thrilling and terrifying and unconventional.

  Something worth fighting for.

  K.

I woke nestled between Cavendish and Zephyr. It was fast becoming my favorite place to be. But nature called, so I gingerly crawled out from between them and tiptoed out of the tent to find a private stop to do my business.

When I was done, I used some baby wipes to clean up as best as I could. I yearned for a proper shower, dreamed of the day I could wash the grime from my skin.

  “Hey.”

My heart leaped into my throat as I spun around to find Denver grinning at me. “You’re up early. I thought you’d be worn out after—”

“Really?” I blanched. “You’re going there, now?”

“Too soon?” His brow rose playfully.

“You’re insufferable,” I muttered as I brushed past him to go back to camp.

“Hey.” He snagged my wrist. “I was only joking.” Denver’s expression softened and I felt my anger ebb away. He was impossible to stay mad at.

“It’s okay, I just… I didn’t exactly plan for that to happen.” I didn’t regret it, but I also didn’t know if they intended on it becoming a regular thing.

  I hoped they did.

Closing the distance between us, Denver gazed down at me. “Listening to you... shit, Ky. it was one of the hottest moments of my life.”

“Didn’t you have sex like once?” My lip curved. “You don’t exactly have much to compare it to.”

“Twice, actually but so not the point here.”

“You’re making a point?” I smirked, swept up in his easy banter.

His eyes darkened as his tongue darted across his bottom lip. “My point is, I don’t blame you. And I don’t blame them. Given half the chance, I would—” His hungry gaze dropped to my mouth.

“You’d what, Denver?” My skin felt scorched under his heated gaze, rather than from the giant fireball blazing down on us all hours of the day.

I’d never seen him like this; a guy barely in control.

“Do this.” He grabbed me and smashed his lips to mine, his tongue diving into my mouth. The kiss was everything Denver wasn’t—wild, untamed, and messy—and I loved every second of it.

“Wait,” I breathed, reality finally slamming back into me. “We can’t—”

“Who says we can’t?” His eyes twinkled. “In case you haven’t noticed, we’re not in Kansas anymore Toto. We can make up our own rules.”

“And you’re okay with... sharing me?” The word lodged in my throat.

Denver shrugged before leaning in to steal a chaste kiss. “It’s basic evolution. There’s only one of you and three of us and for all we know we could be the last survivors on the scorched planet.

He was joking but his words struck a chord, making my chest tighten. “So that’s all I am to you?” I asked. “A female body to sow your wild oats with?”

“And other things.” He grinned and I couldn’t resist grinning back. “I like you, Kyra, I always have. But you’ve always been one of the guys.”

“Gee, thanks.” I rolled my eyes.

“You know what I mean. You can hold your own. You’re not some damsel in distress who needs saving. And I like that about you. We all do.”

“You’ve talked about me?” I didn’t know how I felt about that.

“It’s not as bad as it sounds, I promise.” His smile was genuine. “We admire you and I guess coming above ground has made us all realize something.”

“And what might that be?” I asked, pressing my lips together.

  “You’re really fucking hot.”

“Well, duh, I think that,”—I jabbed my finger toward the fireball in the sky—“might have something to do with that.”

“Kyra, come on. I’m standing here, putting myself on the line, and you’re making jokes.”

Inclining my head, I studied him. Denver had always been an enigma, preferring humor over heartfelt conversations. It’s why I struggled to figure out his angle sometimes. But as he gazed back at me, I saw nothing but honesty in his eyes.

“I like you. Really like you. But that’s not really the issue here, is it?”

“It’s not?” We’d gravitated back to one another, barely a sliver of space between us.

“No,” he breathed, grazing his nose over mine. “The real question is, do you like me back?”

Everything inside me screamed this was a bad idea—that it couldn’t possibly end well. Zephyr, Cavendish, and Denver were best friends. We all were. If we crossed this line—them, me, together—it would change things. But I did like him. I liked them all. I always had. They had been a huge part of my life. When I was younger, they’d been like the older brothers I’d never had, my protectors. But as we grew, and I honed my skills, I became their equal. Perhaps it only made sense we’d come full circle.

“I like you too,” I whispered, touching my lips to his. His eyes shuttered as he expelled a long breath. And I realized it was a sigh of relief. Denver curved his hand around my neck, taking control of the kiss, stoking the fire inside me. I pressed myself into him, hitching my leg around his.

“Christ, Ky,” he rasped, hooking my leg closer, grinding against me. Our height differences meant we were all out of sync, but it didn’t matter. Denver felt too good wrapped around me. He didn’t let things get carried away though, slowing the kiss, forcing my heart rate down with it. When he eased back to look at me, I was flushed and breathless. “My kisses look good on you.”

I smiled suddenly feeling shy. Which was ridiculous given the fact he’d seen me post-sex with Zephyr and Cavendish.

“Come on, hot stuff,” he hooked his arm around my neck and drew me into his side, “Let’s go find the others.”

After a bland breakfast of watered-down porridge, the guys packed away the tent while I rinsed the pots and cleaned up the fire.

“We should try to cover as much ground as possible today.” Zephyr joined me, handing me the remaining cutlery to stow in my pack.

  “Okay.”

“Listen, about last night…” My heart skipped a beat as I waited for him to deliver the words that would end this thing between us—all of us—before it even got started. “I wasn’t too rough or anything?” His piercing gaze searched mine.

“That’s what you wanted to ask me?” I gawked at him, relief settling into my bones.

“Yeah, well.” He dragged a hand through his messy dark hair. “I know it was your first time, and I didn’t exact
ly go—”

“Stop. I’m fine. Last night was… everything.”

  “Yeah?” His eyes sparked.

I gave him a small nod. “But I have something to ask you.”

  “You do?”

“Denver said something to me; something about the three of you… and me.”

Surprising me, Zephyr hooked his arm around my waist and drew me close, staring down at me with those amethyst eyes of his. “Your ours, Ky.”

“Because of evolution?” My lip curved into a wry smile.

“Evolution? What the fuck are you talking about? We’ve always had a thing for you. We were just too chicken shit to do anything about it, because, well, we didn’t want to divide the group.”

  “Oh.”

He grinned. “I just tell you we’ve all been harboring some serious feelings for you and all you’ve got is ‘oh’.”

“It’s a lot to process.” They wanted me, really wanted me.

“Look.” He pulled me closer, my chest pressing against his as he gazed down at me. “I know you and Cavendish were getting close in the bunker. I was prepared to back off, we all were.”

  “What do you mean?”

“We didn’t want to crowd you. If you’d picked one of us, we agreed the others would step back.”

“I… honestly, I have no idea what to say to that.”

“But then we came up top, and I saw the way you looked at me, Denver too. And I knew I couldn’t walk away without giving it a shot.”

“Wow, you really have thought all this through.” My lips thinned, my head swimming with his confession.

“Look, I like you, Kyra. Cavendish and Denver like you too. The way I see it, we’ve only got each other right now. We don’t have to play by anyone else’s rules here.”

“Funny,” I cut him off. “Denver said something similar.”

“Yeah, well, he might be annoying as fuck, but the guy talks a lot of sense.”

I swatted his chest, but it was the wrong move because the second my hands landed on his cut muscles, memories of last night flooded my mind. “Wh- what about when we reach Subterranea?” I managed to croak out.
