Sofa King Wrong

I seethe, my shoulders heaving and every muscle in my body tensed and ready to snap.

“You piece of garbage,” I snarl, advancing on him.

David grins as he waves a finger. “Uh-uh, Diesel. How about you stop right there? You can call me as many names as you want, but let’s be clear.” He grins. “You touch me, and I’ll make sure you head right back to your cozy little prison cell. Got it?”

I see red mist, my hands clenching to fists and the world spinning around me. But then, there’s a hand on my arm — a soft touch, and a scent I know.

  Alyssa.

“Hey,” she whispers, moving behind me, her fingers tightening on my skin as she kisses my bicep. “Breathe.”

And I do. And the blaring siren in my ear tones down, and the red mist clears.

But, David Prichard — the man who put me away for stopping him from beating on his wife and child — is still standing right in front of us, grinning at me.

“Danny, what the fuck are you—”

“Shut up!” Danny spits. He laughs this sort of crazy sounding laugh as he shakes his head at Alyssa. “Just shut the fuck up, you spoiled little bitch.”

Alyssa stares at him, and I growl as my teeth grind.

“Four years!” he barks. “Four fucking years I’ve put up with your shit and dealt with your drama.”

Alyssa hisses at him. “My drama? Oh, you mean the bullshit you and your fucking PR team set up for me?! That drama!?” She swears, shaking her head. “I’m so sorry that you made a fortune over the last four years while you helped push me into situations and career moves I never wanted to make, you asshole.”

Danny sneers at her. “Well, I’m done, you little cunt, and—”

“You watch your fucking mouth,” I roar, moving between them and looming over Danny. He swallows, his face paling as he looks up into my face, before he steadies himself. And he smiles.

  Something’s up here.

“The problem, Miss Campo,” David sneers out. “Is that you assumed Danny was loyal because of his manager’s cut.”

“You got rich off of me, you piece of shit!” she spits at Danny.

  David just chuckles.

“Well, he’s about to become far richer. Hell, I should pay you too, for doing such a wonderful job of making sure this all fell into place.”

My stomach sinks. Suddenly, I think I know what’s going on here.

“You keep her the fuck out of—”

Danny laughs. “Fuck that. The money is great, but watching this spoiled bitch go down in flames is the icing on the fucking cake!”

He’s about to laugh again when my fist crashes into his face, knocking him to the ground. He screams as blood runs from his broken nose, but David just chuckles, and I realize he’s still taping.

“Perfect, perfect. You’re doing such a good job, Diesel.”

  Fuck.

“What is all of this!” Alyssa yells, gripping my arm tight.

“It’s a setup,” I say softly. “For me.”

David smiles. “See? I knew you weren’t just a dumb brute. Correct. This is about making sure you know your fucking place. This is for what you did before.”

“What he did!?” Alyssa storms past me, her face livid as she jabs a finger at David. “What he did?! You asshole, he stopped you from beating on your own wife and son! And you had him jailed for it!”

“Goddamn right I did,” David hisses back. “But that fucking judge only met me halfway. Six years? That’s it?” He scoffs. “Fuck that. When I’m through with you, six years will seem like a sleepover party.”

I smile grimly. “Still mad I fucked up your face, huh? How was that plastic surgery, by the way?”

“Painful,” he spits. “But not as painful as what you’re going to feel in jail, knowing you’re the reason this girl’s career goes up in flames.”

My smile fades, and Danny starts to cackle from the ground.

“Oh yeah. See, when the press finds out that you’ve been the one sending her those stalker letters, that’s going to be bad. But when these pictures leak?” He holds up his camera. “Of her, fucking you,” he sneers, shaking his head. “When they find out Alyssa Campo screwed her bodyguard who’s about to go away to jail again for assault after it was him who mailed her death threats? Well, you’ll go from the ‘wild’ to ‘untouchable’ in this town overnight. There’s being in the spotlight for acting out. But this shit is going to ruin you, and we both know it.”

My jaw grinds together, the rage blazing up inside of me. This isn’t fair. Coming after me again is one thing, but involving her? No fucking way. Something snaps inside of me, and I find myself moving towards David again, fire blazing through my veins like acid.

“You leave her the fuck out of this,” I hiss.

He shrugs. “I just wanted you. She’s collateral. But maybe that makes this even sweeter for me.” He shrugs, tapping a finger on his chin like he’s thinking. “No, you know what, it definitely makes it sweeter for—”

  Suddenly, Alyssa starts to laugh.

We all stop, all three of us turning to look at her as the smile spreads over her face and those perfect white teeth of hers flash. She giggles, her hand sliding down to link with mine as she shakes her head.

“You think this is going to ruin my career?”

“You’re fucking your ex-con of a bodyguard who’s going to jail again after he sent you death threats.”

  “You sent those.”

Danny shrugs. “I can spin whatever I want. Trust me, the press will think it was him. Oh and it won’t take long. I made sure a ton of them were waiting right at the end of your driveway for when all of this blew up.”

“And you seriously think who I’m with is going to hurt my career?”

He grins. “If it is him? Yeah, you little spoiled brat. It’s going to fucking ruin you, and I’m going to be laughing the whole time.”

I growl, stepping towards him, but she stops me with a squeeze to my hand.

“Hey,” she whispers quietly, pulling me towards her. My eyes drop to hers, and I watch as she just smiles that perfect, soul-filling smile at me and shrugs.

“Well, since it’s not a secret anymore.”

She tugs me down as she stands up on her tiptoes, wraps her arms around my neck, and kisses me. It actually catches me off guard, and I hold back for one second, but not for long. Because slowly, I’m kissing her right back, our lips melting together as my arms wrap tight around her.

“Touching, really,” David mutters. “But it’s time, asshole. I’ve got the authorities on the way, and I promise you, that’s the last kiss you’re gonna get for a long time that doesn’t come from a man named Bubba.”

Alyssa’s hand finds mine, and she tugs on it, drawing my eyes to hers. There’s something fierce there — something wild and untamed. Something that looks like it’s ready to take a leap.

“I, uh…” She blushes as she looks up into my eyes, her teeth raking over her lip.

  “I have an idea. C’mere.”

She whirls, and still just wearing a blanket around herself and still in just a pair of boxers, she takes my hand and starts to pull me down the driveway, towards the gates. I follow, but my brow knits as my eyes dart ahead.

“Angel, I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a shitload of press waiting for us down there.”

  “I’m planning on it.”

We round the last hedge of her winding drive, and suddenly, we’re spotted. Cameras flash, and hundred questions come hurling through the gates from the assembled press. I pause for a second, brow furrowing as my jaw tightens, but she just keeps tugging me with her.

  “C’mon!”

  “Alyssa—”

“They think leaking pictures of you and me kissing is going to be this big leverage over us, right? I mean, I know what they’re doing. They think some sordid grainy shots of you and me in the backyard is going to make it look like you took advantage of me, so they can push that stalker narrative and get
you thrown in jail.” She snarls. “Which is bullshit, but we both know how that’s going to work out with a guy like that David asshole and all of his paid off connections.”

“So we’re standing half-naked in front of half the press in LA for…?”

  “For this.”

She grabs me, leans up on her tiptoes, and kisses me. Hard, and right there in front of all of them. The paparazzi dickheads go nuts, screaming and yelling and firing off a million fucking pictures. But I barely even notice them. They’re barely even there as I lose myself in kissing her. My arms go around her, and she giggles into my lips as I scoop her up and kiss her fiercely, with everything I have until she’s moaning into my mouth.

  Slowly, grinning, we pull away.

“Let ‘em try and leak those shots and hang them over our heads now,” she whispers fiercely.

I chuckle, my eyes searching hers. “You’re sure about this?”

“Little late for that now, isn’t it?”

I grin. “Suppose so. But tomorrow’s news is going to be all about you shacking up with your ex-con bodyguard who happens to be twice your damn age.”

“Hey, you’re the one who’s going to have to deal with all the shit about me being half your age.”

  I groan. “True.”

“And anyways, that story is bullshit.” She shrugs. It’s not my ex-con bodyguard I’m screwing. It’s my ex-con mover.”

I laugh, kissing her fiercely as she melts into me.

“Just so you know, baby girl,” I purr into her lips as the cameras flash like lightning around us. “I’m in love with you.”

“Shit, really?” She gives me this big fake worried look. “I mean, I was thinking I was just betting my whole career on a one-time fling.”

I roll my eyes. “Anyone ever tell you you’re a brat?”

“Only if that person is willing to give me a spanking later.”

  I growl. “Count on it.”

She bites her lip, looking into my eyes. “I love you too, you know.”

The questions come screaming through the gates to her estate, but we just ignore them as our lips come together again. And then it’s just me standing there kissing the girl I love, and the rest of it fades away.

  Epilogue

  Alyssa

The movies tell us that life always has a happy ending. Trust me, I know that’s bullshit better than a lot of people. But then, sometimes, if you’re lucky, you actually get that Hollywood ending. And when you do, man is it good.

With us, our happy ending didn’t come for free, that’s for sure. It didn’t come without a fight either. Diesel and I went to bed in each other’s arms that night after our very public display, but I’d be lying if I said we woke up to everything being bright and sunny and fine the next day.

Danny sued me for breach of contract when I fired his ass that next day. And he still tried to go with the story about Diesel being the stalker who’d written those disgusting letters. David Prichard didn’t just magically disappear either. If anything, he came at Diesel even harder after that night, using every crooked cop, lawyer and judge he knew to try to get the man I love behind bars again.

…Yeah, but like hell was I going to let that happen.

I haven’t always been proud of the work I’ve done since I got “famous.” I did some really bad movies, was a spokeswoman for some seriously questionable products, and I allowed myself to get spun up in all of these tawdry made up tabloid stories. But, there’s one silver lining to all of that. Actually, it’s more of a gold lining.

…All those things paid. And in this crooked little town? Oh, they paid well.

I hired the best legal defense money could buy to hit back at the asshole trying to steal Diesel from me. And even then, for a minute there, it even looked like David was going to win, especially with Danny in his corner along with his bullshit evidence of Diesel being my stalker.

But then I got smart. Then, I found them.

René and Toby weren’t easy to find. She’d changed their names after she ran off from her monster of an ex-husband, and even moved to France. But, I found them. At first, she flat-out refused to have anything to do with David, but when I told them what was going on, and how Diesel was involved, there was no stopping René from getting on a plane and coming back with me to make things right.

She’d been kept from testifying at the first trial. Hell, she didn’t even know Diesel had gone to jail, and she was furious when she found out. Her testimony this time around changed everything.

For one, it showed that David was a lying sack of shit, and proved Diesel’s story from his first trail. When the judge listened to René recounting story after story about Diesel treating her and Toby’s bruises and about how he stepped in to save them that day he beat the shit out of David, it was all over.

Diesel received a full pardon for his past sentence, and David quickly found himself in some serious, serious shit. The kind of shit not even his money could buy him out of. It also wasn’t long before Danny’s whole story fell apart like wet paper, and pretty soon, he found himself sitting in a courtroom as well.

  Fuckers.

After that though, we were free. And after that? Well, I saw what I wanted in life. I saw what was important and what was just filling up my time.

I dropped movies, entirely. They were never my thing, and the only reason I’d ever been stuck into the roles I was in was to get my image out there and sell more records. And if we’re being honest, I was never that good at it. I also took a hard look at what I was being paid to sell in commercials, and I cleaned house. No, I didn’t need to be selling wildly age-inappropriate skirts to impressionable young girls. I didn’t need to be in a commercial selling non-smudge lipstick that included a thinly veiled hint at it not coming off while giving head.

...I mean seriously, how had I ever signed on for any of this shit?

Instead, I reached out to charities. I got my face and my “celebrity” status attached to things that mattered, and causes that needed it. And I’ve never felt more free.

And at the end of the day, it was Diesel who got me back into my first real passion — the love that’d started all of this: singing. He got me back to my roots, and back to what I really wanted to be doing. Not the sugar-pop crap I’d been putting out, either. No, I knuckled down and started writing my own songs again, my way, and in my style. Actually, my first “real” album comes out in a week. And who knows. Maybe it flops, but whatever happens, it’s me. It’s real. And just about every damn song on the thing is about him.

What can I say about the gruff, rough, wild, amazing, gorgeous, sexy man who I stumbled into? Well, he’s been amazing through all of my transitions, I can say that. He was there for me every step of the way, through every obnoxious question on every stupid talk show I had to go on. He even came on some of them with me.

Oh, and that brings me to my favorite part of all of this: the fact that Diesel got a modeling contract out of all of this.

  No, really.

It was after one of the talk shows we did together, where he held my hand and politely but gruffly answered the annoying questions from the host about our ages and his history. He was adamantly against it when the talent agency reached out, but eventually, I convinced him to give them a shot. Well, me and his buddies from Sofa King Movers, Kane, Levi, Nash, and Bryce. Apparently, this model agency was looking for “rough and untamed,” and damn if my man doesn’t fit that to the letter.

And all of that is to say, there’s now a thirty-foot by sixty-foot ad for a jean brand of Diesel, shirtless, sitting on a motorcycle, in the middle of Times Square, New York.

  And I’m tickled by it.

So that’s life for us now. It’s quieter, in a way, but somehow fuller now that we’ve got each other. Diesel prefers to still work for Kane at Sofa King Movers. It’s not like we need the money, but I know doing a tough job and seeing it through is something that makes him whole, and I respect that.

  He moved in with
me the day after the impromptu driveway photoshoot. Needless to say, we’ve definitely fixed the “sight lines” on the property, because those outdoor chairs out by the fire pit?

Well, they see a lot of action, let me tell you.

I’m not as “famous” now, and honestly, it’s the best feeling in the world. I’ve got the love of an incredible man who makes me feel whole, and who treats me like his queen. I’ve got an album of art I can be proud of to start preparing for. And as I turn over in bed in the morning and shiver at the feel of him so fucking hard as he pulls me into him, I bite my lip and grin.

Yeah, life is pretty good. And judging from the way Diesel’s hands grip me tighter as he slowly wakes, and from the way his big cocks swells against my ass?

Well, it’s going to be a great freaking morning.

  The End.
