Boss Next Door
Page 3
“You do?” Her eyes widen in surprise. “One who lets you pick your own hours? Wow, you must be important to the company. I certainly don’t recall that being on offer for any of the jobs that I applied for.”
I need to change the subject quickly before I end up saying something too revealing. I don’t even want to mention that I am the boss of my company because it scrapes too close to the truth. “So, when do you start work?””
“Tomorrow.” A shiver of excitement runs down her spine. “Which doesn’t give me much time to get all unpacked. I was thinking that I would have last night as well, but I got a little…distracted.”
She smirks and I can’t resist leaning across the table to kiss her gently. How on earth could she think that I would run out on her when we have this kind of chemistry? It’s so intense it makes my head spin. I would have to be absolutely insane to even believe that I could walk away from this woman. Luckily, I don’t even want to try.
Ring, ring… Ring, ring… Ring, ring…
Unfortunately, before our kiss can turn to anything more, which I’m sure it was just about to, my cell phone blasts out and ruins the moment for both of us. Serena snaps away from me, and I know that I have no choice but to answer it. Knowing my luck, it will be someone from the office, proving that they can’t cope without me.
I quickly find out that I am right as well. My personal assistant, Caroline, needs me because there has been some sort of breach with the IT system and she’s worried that it might affect the security of everything. Unfortunately, this isn’t the sort of thing that I can ignore just because I want to spend more time with Serena.
“I’m sorry,” I tell the red haired beauty with regret. “I just need to pop in to the office.”
“Ah, your hours aren’t so flexible after all,” she laughs. “You go ahead. Come back later, if you like.”
I’m sure that she must know for certain that I will be back tonight. I can’t get enough of her. But for now all I can do is give her one last lingering kiss with a promise of what is to come later…
Nerves zig zag through me as I stand outside Serena’s door once more, waiting for her to answer. She is the only woman to make me feel anxious in years, which I’m sure is a sign that I’m already in too deep. But all I really want to do is dig in deeper, find out more and see what this could end up becoming…
“Hey.” As soon as the doors swings open, any anxiousness to the nerves dissipates. Thank goodness Serena looks happy to see. All those hours spent sorting out the office drama were torturous only because I couldn’t be with her. It felt like wasted time. “Good to see you again, Will. How was your work?”
I follow her inside her apartment to the smell of cooking food. It has a deliciously mouthwatering scent to it that immediately makes my stomach growl with starvation. I concentrate so much on the food smell that it takes me a couple of moments to notice that there is paper work everywhere, Serena has been working on something.
“What’s going on here?” I ask her curiously. “It looks like you have been so busy…”
“Oh right.” In a hurry, Serena gathers up all of her papers and puts them to one side, then letting me notice how much unpacking she has done as well. I guess that I being called in to work was good for her. “Yes, I have. See, I start my new job tomorrow and I have been doing some research into the company. I want to be prepared, to know everything that I can. I know that I will still be on the edge and unsure of a lot of things, but it’s a start.”
“Wow…” I’m impressed by her. It would be nice if some of my future employees did the same thing. I found that a lot of them were totally clueless when they started. I had tried speaking to HR about it, but they said that people have to apply for so many jobs all at once and that is to be expected. It’s hard to keep track. Since I don’t know what it’s like being in the job market, I try to understand, but seeing Serena changes things a lot. She is giving it her everything, making sure that she will be the best employee that she can be. But I can’t congratulate her the way I want to because I haven’t let slip about owning my own business yet. That’s something I will do when the time is right.
“Well, if you are busy, I can always come back?” I offer, not wanting to get in the way. “Later or tomorrow.”
“No, stay, please.” She smiles widely at me. “I have made my brain ache with all of it anyway. Plus, I’ve started cooking and I have done far too much food for one person. I wanted you to come back.” She shrugs her shoulders and giggles. “I’ve been waiting all day for you to return,” she finishes honestly and openly.
“That is an offer that I can’t refuse. But is there anything that I can do for you in the meantime?”
“I was actually hoping that you would stack my bookshelf for me while I finish up cooking. Only, I haven’t had a chance all day and only you would understand how much of an important job this is. I couldn’t trust anyone else.”
A surge of heat rushes through me. This is just another reminder of our intense connection. The fact that Serena knows that she can trust me with such an important task means so much, so I know that I will get it right. I will put all of myself into it and organize the books just as I would do it for myself. I know that way, she’ll like it.
“Will do, boss.” I make a mock salute. “Feel free to yell at me if I do anything wrong.”
There is a sense of pride as I get to work, setting up the books in a way that makes me smile. I might be exhausted from the office, but I still have the urge to get this done perfectly for Serena. The smiles that she keeps shooting me from the kitchen are urging me along as well, filling me with happiness with every passing second.
This feels like fate. Serena moving in next door to me feels like the universe is giving me a sign, and it’s one that I refuse to ignore. I’m going to get rid of all my past worries. Molly will be behind me forever more now. What she did to me is a one off. Now, I am all about Serena and making her as happy as she can be...starting with tonight. I will give her a passionate night that she is never going to forget…
Chapter 5 – Serena
I could spend more time reading and learning all about my new job which I am due to start tomorrow morning, I could also finish up unpacking my stuff, but why would I want to do all that when I can have another incredible night with this man? Will is so intoxicating, so addictive, that everything else simply melts into the background.
“I hope you like spicy food,” I call over to him where he is still working hard on getting my book shelf right. “I didn’t think to ask you before I started cooking, but because I like it… well, I thought that you might too.”
“You’re in luck.” He grins from ear to ear. “I do love spicy food, so me and you will get along well.”
I knew it, I just knew it. Me and Will.... well, we just have something, don’t we? We share so much, it’s utterly thrilling. To be honest, I was a little bit glad when he got called in to work, only because I thought that it would be good for me to get my head screwed on, to think a little clearer about me and him and what we’re doing. He gives me such a heady headrush that I forget any sensibilities along the way. I’m acutely aware that I’ve been caught up in the romance, in the fairy tale of being the damsel in distress, rescued by the hero, so much so that I lost my virginity without thinking too much about it. I thought that the time apart might prevent that…
But it didn’t. Throughout the day I have grown increasingly excited, I’ve fallen deeper in to the fairy tale and I never want it to end. As soon as I came to that revelation, I’ve been happily waiting his return, and now he’s here and everything is absolutely perfect. I am already looking forward to one of the best nights of my life and it hasn’t even begun yet.
“Come here a moment,” I call out, just wanting him to be close to me. “I want you to taste this.”
He does as I command and I get to hold his chin while I spoon some of the sauce between his delicious lips. It’s oddly erotic. I never thought that feeding
another person could be so sexy, but with Will, it is. There is just something about him, about his breath on my hand and his sexy body so close to mine, which makes my heart thump. I almost make the first step and lean in to kiss him, just because I’m so caught up in the moment. But still, I’m not quite that brave yet. I’m getting there though. With every single moment that I’m around Will, my confidence is soaring high.
“That is absolutely delicious,” he tells me with a groan of bliss. “Wow, you really are the best chef ever.”
“Now you are being too kind.” I roll my eyes dramatically. “I’m okay at cooking, that’s about it.”
“When did you learn to cook?” he says as he walks back towards the bookshelf. “You must have learned somewhere, right? That doesn’t seem like the sort of cooking that you learn in high school.”
“I er…” Oh God, this is hard for me. “I learned to cook at home. To save my mom having to do it.”
“Because she was a busy single parent?” He makes the assumption and I kinda roll with it.
“Yes, that’s it. She had two jobs and not much time, so when I was a teen I learned to cook for her.”
It feels better to say that than I learned to cook while the fact was I picked up cooking because David would always beat my mom if she made something that he didn’t like or if he found something unsatisfactory about it, which got more of a problem as time went on. I couldn’t ever do much for my mom, but I could do that. If David didn’t like what I had made, then he would yell a lot and throw stuff on the floor, but no one got hit and that was all that I could hope for.
But there was no real reason to bring Will into all of that drama yet. Not when it might spoil the big romance of my life. I came here for work, not for love, but if I can have it all then why not. Why the hell not? I haven’t ever had a good view of what love should feel like in real life but I’m sure this is the start of it.
“That’s really sweet of you,” Will continues, not seeing the underlying story between the lines of what I have just told him. “Are you an only child, or did you have siblings to take care of as well?”
“It was just me.” Thank God. I wouldn’t have wanted any other child to go through what I did. “How about you?”
“I have an older brother. But he lives in the UK now, working for a firm in London. So, I don’t get to see him much.” He lets out a sad sigh. “But we do try to talk every now and then. Although over time, it’s gotten less…”
I watch him with intent as he thinks about his family, trying to gauge what sort of upbringing he had. Nothing like mine, I imagine. He is clearly a very settled man who has done well for himself. He never talks much about his success, but I find him very impressive. Not because he has a lot of cash, I’m not sure of that, but because he has made something of himself. That’s what I want to do, that’s why my job tomorrow is going to be so important.
But I’m not going to worry about that now. Not when I’m having this lovely night with Will. Worrying won’t change the outcome of tomorrow anyway, so I might as well focus on having fun.
“Food is done,” I call out as I’m setting it in the plates. “I will finish off the books, thank you.”
“I’m already done.”
As I make my way to the dining table, balancing the plates on my hands, I find him standing by a full bookshelf which looks great. I’m sure that he has done a much better job than I could ever do. “Do you like it? If there is anything that you want me to change, then let me know now.”
“No, it looks perfect.” I grin happily. “Thank you so much for doing this for me. I appreciate it.”
Before taking his seat opposite me, he takes me in his arms and kisses me with love. I can feel the love surging through me like a powerful bolt of lightning. I might not know love, and it may well be too soon for that, but I can feel it in my gut anyway. This really is it. The love that I thought I would never be lucky enough to have.
“I am so glad that you moved next door to me, Serena. It feels really good to have you by my side.”
I open and close my mouth a few times, trying to find the right words to reply him, but there is nothing. My feelings for him are so strong that they don’t even have words. It’s just an overwhelming tsunami that washes over me in waves so strong they nearly knock me from my feet. Instead, I feel happy tears pricking my eyes, at last.
“Come on,” I choke out, trying to cover up how emotional I am. “Let’s eat.”
Will sits opposite me and his legs rests against mine. That could be because the table is so small that we aren’t exactly left with much space but I have a feeling that it’s more because he wants to feel me just as much as I want to touch him. It’s strange for me because he is such an outstandingly handsome man, utterly gorgeous in every single way, whereas I have always been the plain simple girl who blends into the background. Part of the wall paper, never to be noticed. At least, that’s who I used to be back in my home town, but it seems that here in my new life, I am someone better, the sort of person who I have always wanted to be, someone good enough for a man like Will.
“Mmm, I could have you cook for me forever,” Will moans in sheer bliss, letting me see that he’s thinking the same way as I am. He doesn’t think that this will just be a short term thing. He’s in it for the long haul. I’m glad that he’s being so open about how he feels. I wouldn’t like being with a man who thinks that game playing is acceptable. I am far too inexperienced to deal with anything like that. It would throw me right off course.
“Oh, well maybe I can do that for you, now that I live next door!” I giggle. “Who knows?”
The look that Will gives me might as well be undressing me with his eyes. I almost want to perform a little strip show for him right here and now, to let him know that I’m all in as well, but I resist. Mostly because I’m hungry and what I have cooked is pretty good, if I do say so myself. I want to consume it all first…
But Will is done first. I think he’s eaten fast because he can’t wait to get his hands on me once more, and as soon as he touches me my appetite evaporates into nothing. I’m only hungry for him.
“Are we retiring to your bedroom once more?” he asks with a cheeky smile. “Or is it only that I’m…tired.”
“Tired, huh?” I take his hand in mine. “Well, I better get you into bed right away then.”
Electricity fizzes in my veins as I take him through my apartment and into the bedroom. My heart thumps, just like it did last night when we found ourselves in this situation, only this time I don’t have the same anxiety. I’m a little more experienced this time around so I’m thrilled to get that phenomenal sensation from him once more. I want that pleasure rolling over me in waves, refusing to leave my body until I am completely emotionally spent once more…but there are also some things that I haven’t tried with Will yet and I want to.
He grabs me and cascades his lips to mine, making my body erupt in pleasure. As his hands grab my ass, I can’t resist pulling back just to make a little joke about his behavior. “Oh, I thought you were tired.”
“Mmm, there is just something about you which wakes me up,” he growls like a bear. “I can’t help myself.”
So, he is as much out of control when it comes to me as I am about him. That amps me up about ten more levels. I grab him hard, practically piercing his skin with my nails as I yank him closer to me. Tonight, there is no need for me to be shy, no need for me to hold back, I will just take him and claim from him everything that I want.
“I can’t help myself around you either,” I rasp as I toss my head back in ecstasy. The throbbing at my core intensifies by the second, if he doesn’t touch me soon then I will lose my mind completely. He’s edging closer to the waist band of my panties and driving me wilder by the moment. “I want you so badly, Will.”
I wrap myself around him and we fall on to the bed together, entwined with one another, connected at every single level, and it fills me with pleasure. This man…he really does something t
o me…and I never want it to stop.
Chapter 6 – William
Serena’s eager fingers strip me down and I’m far too happy to get her clothing off as well. There is such an intense sexual chemistry bursting between us that we can’t contain it any longer. It was building, even when I was in the office, and now I finally get to explore that. Serena is in her foreplay all on her own.
I get so lost in the heady sensation of her body next to mine that it takes me a couple of moments to realize that she’s sliding lower, kissing me all over, tasting me in places that she hasn’t done before. Her mouth feels fucking incredible. Every part of me that her tongue and lips graze across is consumed with electricity and I can’t handle it. I grab her hair, running my fingers through her delicious red locks as she moves to my boxer shorts.
Serena leans back and she eyes my underwear curiously, almost as if she isn’t quite sure what to do with me. Not that it matters. She looks so beautiful right now that she could do absolutely anything and I would love it. I just adore her touching me, tasting me, feeling me everywhere. Which is proven when she lightly grazes my rock hard erection and my hips flip off the bed. My fingers curl around the bed sheets to try and fix me in place.
“Oh God, Serena,” I gasp out. “That feels so good, you are driving me crazy right now.”
“Am I?” Her eyes light up with glee. “Okay, so how does it feel when I do this?”
As she dips her hands under the waist-band of my boxers and she takes my cock in her hands, I’m blown away. It honestly feels like this is the first time I have ever been touched. This is sexy as hell but it’s sweet and innocent as well. It’s a brand new experience for me and I love it. I hope that it feels the same way to her.
“Oh fuck.” She strokes me lightly. Pumping my cock in a delicate and slow manner, like she’s desperate to figure out what I like. “Fucking hell, Serena, that’s…” My head is spinning, I might start seeing stars in a moment. “Wow.”
