Too many people. Too much movement. Where was Luke? I wouldn’t even hear a gunshot if Michael reneged.

On my still bruised and sore ass, I scrambled to sit up and look around. There. At my level on the concrete, I saw the navy-blue string, flung just feet away. I crawled after it, around legs of the exiting mob. Someone’s foot knocked into it, kicking it further to the edge of the platform. Overhead, I saw Michael shoving through the people, his perfectly healed face a twist of rage as he went for the flash drive. His arms, bared from rolled-up sleeves, bore no mark of my nails just having dug into his flesh and slicing him open to bleed yesterday.

I shot to my feet and half-stumbled and walked toward the files.

  Luke. Where was he?

Another person smacked into me, pushing me in the opposite direction.

  No!

I watched as the lanyard slithered away, the drive already teetering at the edge of a sewer grate. Then it was gone, knocked into the pipe.

Michael roared and turned to find me in the crowd and I stumbled backward. Away. He spotted me, his eyes slitting as he raised his gun.

Arms wrapped around me from behind, and hard muscles tightened as I was pulled further from the platform. As I fell back, into the subway train, I watched Michael snarl his lips.

Then pain exploded with a harsh impact, and I was lost to darkness.

  To be continued in…LOST.

  About the Author

Amabel Daniels lives in Northwest Ohio with her patient husband, three adventurous girls, and a collection of too many cats and dogs. Although she holds a Master’s degree in Ecology, her true love is finding a good book. When she isn’t spending time outdoors, or wondering how to negotiate with her mightily independent daughters, she’s busy brewing up her next novel, usually as she lets her mind run off with the addictive words of “what if…”
