To be more accurate, they made my dad an offer I couldn’t refus e—Fre e VIP season tickets for him and a friend for every season that I’m there. Since playing for the Mariners, my dad has only been able to make a handful of games and even fewer home games. I know how much he loves watching me play and I wanted to make it easier for him. Especially since he’s getting older and his health isn’t the best. Besides, I like having him there.
And just as I finished my thought, an image of him and Quinn cheering me on in the student section at Clayvale’s stadium flashed through my mind. A smile crept up on my face, but I shook the image from my head immediately. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about what it would be like running into her after all these years, but she’s probably moved away, married, has four kids and a house with a dog somewhere by now. I doubt I’ll ever see her again.

“Do you have your glove?”
“Yep.”
“Hat?”
“Yep.”
“Water bottle?”
“Ughh...yep!”
“Cleats?”
“Yes!”
“Okay,” I chuckled. “I love you, Bryson. Good luck!”
“I love you too, Mom,” he called back, scurrying out of the back seat and down the hill toward the dugout, his Hawks baseball hat turned backwards on his little head.
