With acknowledgment to proceed, Zeke had Jax download the data onto the halo projector. Taking the controls from Jax upon his return to his seat, he put up on the large halo display a very long piece of metal. “This was recovered from a Chohish ship. Everyone is aware of the discovery of the spaces in the welds that held the Chohish ships together.”

A light buzz of conversation started that was quickly silenced the Admiral.

“Well, Lieutenant Commander Andrews and I, wondered if there was more to it than met the eye so to speak. The Commander, whom deserves all the credit for this, found the following”

Enlarging the image slowly so they could see the level of magnification that was performed, the image finally showed the space he had previously mentioned. But the magnification did not stop there. It continued.

As it continued, little metal dots could now be seen. The dots were separated into several groups. Another halo, another section, more dots. Section after section were shown showing each and every space had dots present, and not all sections had the same number of dots. Finally, one set of dots was displayed.

“What we found are these dots. We ran it through the AI computer on this Carrier which identified it is a language. The AI was able to decipher it based on a repeated section of dots that always led the rest of the dots on any given space found. That leading section was the actual alphabet. The language we found is not Chohish.”

The room broke into excited chatter, again broken up by a stern Admiral. “Let him finish! Any more interruptions, they will meet with immediate removal.”

Pausing to gather his thoughts, he looked at Jeanne, who already knew what he was going to disclose. All of the remaining crew of the Lucky Strike and the Fox were aware. Both Zeke and Jeanne thought it was only fair they be the first to know.

“The race that wrote those dots are known as the Kolqux. The dots tell of their twin planets struggle and eventual conquering by the Chohish. The Chohish let them live so the Kolqux could build ships for them using their own technology, which was much more advanced than the Chohish’s at the time. The Kolqux were conquered only due to overwhelming numbers.”

“Getting all this detail was extremely tedious as it was obvious the Kolqux were paranoid about it being found. But, like the alphabet, one very small set of dots was repeated again and again at the end of every space the Commander and I checked.”

With that, Zeke put up another halo showing the segment of dots he had just discussed.

It was a Sorath, sitting next to the Admiral, that asked the question that was on everyone’s mind. “What does it say?”

Raising his hand so it was pointing at the dots on the halo, he said out loud in a clear commanding voice, pronouncing each word clearly, syllable by syllable.

  “‘Help us, please help us!”
