"Excellent maybe that's why we are paying you the big bucks." His partner laughed, completely impervious to his scowling expression by now.

Walking to where the blood was on the floor, his partner started to explain again.

"So you see, the ex cop? He wasn't alone shopping for groceries, he had his twenty two years old daughter with him that was hiding over here. When she saw the fight between his father and the other guy, she had the same reasoning as you. So she had an idea, she started running in the direction of the other three guys, fell on her knees and started rambling and crying, spewing some nonsense about their buddies slipping and knocking himself out."

"And they bought that? Are they morons?" Charles shook his head.

"You will understand better when you are going to see the girl. So the three of them start to feel the girl out and that's when she does something that they never expected, she attacks them. She wiped a pocket knife from somewhere and cut the Achilles tendon of the leader's right foot. The guy fell on the ground here and dropped his gun. The girl made a roll forward, took the gun and took position on one knee, blowing the knee of the one that was about to brain her with his baseball bat here. Dodge one attack from the leader, shot him in the shoulder and then she aimed at the last one who dropped his bat and let's just stay. She took him out too."

"What do you mean?" He frowned.

"She kick him so hard in the d*ck that he passed out." She laughed, enjoying the pained expression passing on his partner's face.

"So let's rewind that, shall we? She came out with a plan in seconds, took these three out like it was nothing, made two shots with impressive accuracy and also had a knife on her, is she military or something?"

"That's where it gets even better, she's a computer programmer."

  "Yeah, right." He answers sarcastically.

Seeing the smile on his partner's face only getting better, Charles started knitting his eyebrow.

"Holy shit, you are not kidding are you?"

"Nope, I was waiting for you to start questioning her, let's go."

"You have been silent for a long time now Lina." Michael remarked, looking at his daughter worriedly.

"Sorry but I was…" Lina starts to say before being silent again.

"The first time you shoot someone is a scary thing, even if you didn't kill them, you still hurt them, it's not an easy thing to do. I know, I had to handle it myself more than once." He said reassuringly, patting her back.

"That's the thing, it wasn't and that is what is scaring me. You already explain what you felt the first time you had to shoot someone but I'm not feeling it. If anything, it seems almost too easy to do."

"It's because you were way more prepared for that kind of thing than we were." Michael starts to say before seeing the surprised look on his daughter's face. "Come on kiddo, I'm working as security in the same tower that you work and I saw some of your team members in action and they are scary. I know that you do way more than what your job title suggests but I don't want to know about it okay?"

"Seriously? You don't want to know anything about what I really do? You are not worried?" She asked, surprised.

"Worried? I worry about you even before you were born." Mickael laughed before continuing more seriously. "This is what parents do, we worry all the time but we managed to live with it. But I saw the change in you in the last three months, you start gaining more confidence in yourself, you were and are still thin but you put some muscles in you. You start to become the kind of person that I always wanted you to become. The reason that it seems so easy to do is because you became so accustom in fighting against the best that you forgot that this type of people is rare and these thugs were nothing but muscles, that's why you so easily overpowered them and they deserve everything you gave them even if the kick in the groin was just foul." He said laughing, Lina laughing along.

"Okay, two cops are coming in our direction, they must be the detectives. A piece of advice, try to be honest as possible, they can smell bullshit a mile away. For the rest, let's just say I taught you to shoot and autodefense since you are young and you got lucky, alright?" Michael said, angling his face to talk to her without being seen by the approaching cops.

Seeing his daughter nodding imperceptibly, the both of them got to their feet and faced the two detectives.

"Michael and Lina Campbell? I'm Detective Elena Russo and this is my partner, Charles Berthier. We would like to ask you some questions."

  "Of course." Michael nodded.

"Wait, so you are the girl who took them out?" The detective Berthier interrupts, looking critically at Lina up and down. "Is this a joke?" He looked sideways at his partner.

"Not a joke, all witnesses corroborate their testimony, this is real." Elena answers.

"Come on, the girl looked like she could fly away if I were to sneeze too close to her and these guys were at least a feet taller and a hundred a fifty pound heavier than her."

"Detective, you are being rude with my daughter and we are not the perpetrator here, we just defend ourselves and the other civilians in the bodega. You should be more respectful here." Michael said, frowning.

"Stay out of this, I will deal with you later." Charles said coldly before focusing again on Lina. "I don't know why you lie, maybe it's for the attention or something else but you should come clean now girl."

"Detective, I know it's hard to believe but this is the truth, I did what you saw. And my name is Lina, not girl. Girl is only my gender, if we were to call ourselves by gender, I would call you dumb old man but I'm not doing that, right?" Lina said, starting to get angry.

Hearing that, Charles starts to smile where his partner wrinkles her nose in disgust.

"Well well well, you just fail to respect an officer of the law, add to suspicion of fake testimony, you two are going with us to the precinct. It's your choice if you want to come willingly or we need to cuff you and put you in a squad car." He said, dangling his cuff with delight in front of them.

Looking at each other, the Campbell pair didn't know what to do as they did not expect the situation to go in this direction at all. Lina also realized that the detective goaded her on purpose into giving him a reason to take her away. She was mad at herself for falling into such a trap but she knew there was nothing that she could do now. They had to go to the precinct.

"Up to your old tricks I see, Charles." An attractive voice said, gathering the attention of everyone around her.

Hearing that voice, the delight in Charles' expression quickly turned into a bitter one and he hastily put his handcuff away. Seeing what he did, Elena turned her head away to hide a relieved smile.

"Pro… Prosecutor Lyndon, I assure you, I have good reason to take them away, they…" Charles started to say before being quickly stopped.

"Spare me the bullshit Charles, I watch the whole scene so don't even bother or I'm going to get angry and you don't want that, do you?" She said, directing a dangerous smile his way.

"Of course not." He said, cold sweat appearing on his back. "May I ask why you are here Prosecutor?" He asks, trying to change the subject.

"Well, I was on my way home and I stumbled into this so I thought I should come and check things out. Now, you are going to apologize to the girl for harassing her or I'm going to insist on doing a live reproduction of what happened inside and you are going to play the role of the one who got kicked in the nuts, your choice Charles. If you don't choose one of those, we can go back to the last time you decide to cross me."

Gulping visibly, Charles remembers very well the first time and the last time that he tried to pull one over the Prosecutor facing him right now. He had passed the next three month as a maintenance worker where he was tasked to literally clean the street of garbage. He also knew better than anyone that she wasn't in the business of making idle threats, she was ready to do everything that she just told him. Confrontes to those three choices, he decides to choose the lesser evil.

  "
Miss Campbell, I'm sorry for the inconvenience that I caused you and I hope you will forgive me. You are of course, free to go."

"This is more like it, I love seeing everyone getting along. Charles, Elena I can't wait to read your report in the next two hours about what happened here, I will be really disappointed if they were not ready by that time." Karine said, looking at the two of them for a few seconds before focusing on Lina and Michael. "You two, follow me please." She said, turning around and starting to walk away without waiting for them.

"What the hell were you thinking Michael?" Karine snapped at him when they were near her car.

"What do you mean?" He asked, he did not expect to get a tongue lashing too.

"What did you involve yourself in? You are not a friggin cop anymore Michael for go sake! You had no business doing what you did! And because of you, Lina had to step in and deal with the situation, which put her on the radar of the NYPD! Next time, give your wallet and your phone and be done with it! Your lives are worth way more than anything you have on you. Not mentioning that my son invests heavily on both of you and your family, don't squander what he did for nothing!"

Seeing the two of them reeling from what she just told them, She calmed herself.

"I will deal with this mess. Hop in, I'm going to drive you home. Just think about what I just told you." Karine finally said, getting in the car.

  Chapter 203: :

  Cancun, Mexico. 25/03/2013. 02:25.

"Come on Elisabeth! We've been partying for eight hours now, I need a shower!"

"Sis, it's Spring Break! We got to enjoy it considering how hard it was to convince dad to let us come here! Beside, you were not arguing an hour ago while you were kissing that latino guy!"

"You are the one to talk! I think half the men in the city drinked cocktails on your body tonight! I would like to know what your boyfriend will be thinking about this if he were to know."

"Me and him decide to take a break from each other for some time in order to think about our respective place in the other's life." Elisabeth answers with a fake serious tone of voice.

"Yeah, righhhhhttt." Her sister answers while laughing. "A break that curiously took place a week before we arrived here."

"Sis, bringing your boyfriend on Spring Break is a lot like bringing your own food while you go to a restaurant. It's simply unbecoming of a proper lady."

"There is nothing proper about you!" She said, bumping in her sister's shoulder before hugging her.

The two sisters keep arguing good naturedly between themselves while walking on the beach. Where Elisabeth was in her mid twenties with mid shoulder black hair and with brown eyes, her sister was in her early twenties with brown hair and green eyes. Despite these differences, their faces were so alike that they could pass for twins. The two of them were also extremely beautiful and where Elisabeth was wearing a short skirt and a bikini top, her sister had chosen to wear short shorts and a top that was leaving nothing to the imagination. The fact that the two of them were obviously drunk, did nothing to their charms.

"Elisabeth, we need to go! You know full well what will happen if our guardian angels cannot find us when we need to call uncle."

The two of them were from a prestigious family and their father was a wealthy and important man, that was why he took huge effort from them to be allowed to come here. Alas, they still had to agree to have two guardian angels specially picked by their uncle and they also needed to call each night after coming back from partying. If they were to miss only one of those calls, they would be forced to go back home and none of them wanted that.

"Yeah, yeah, I hate that we have to do that." She sighed bitterly before starting to walk in the direction of the parking lot.

Arriving where their car was parked, they were surprised to find that none of the two men in charge of protecting them were there.

  "Where the hell are they?"

"Maybe they got tired of waiting and they started to look for us."

"Well, that's weird, one of them should have stayed here in case we were coming back while the other was looking for us, right?" Elisabeth said with doubt.

"Yeah, seems logical. No bother, they are going to be back eventually, we should buy something to eat, Im famished! I feel I could eat…" She started to say before her right foot slipped on something and she almost fell over.

  "Sis, you're alright over there?"

"Yes, yes, I just slipped on some…" She said, crouching down to look more attentively on what was on the ground when her mind suddenly blanked.

On the ground there was blood, a lot of blood and under their car she saw one of her guardian angels dead with his throat slit.

"Elisa…." She started to yell but unfortunately she was cut down when someone suddenly muzzled her with a hand in front of her mouth.

That's when she felt a pricking sensation in her neck and the world turned black. The last thing she saw before losing consciousness was her sister also falling on the ground, looking asleep. After that it was only darkness.

"Ah Nathaniel, I was looking for you." Robert said, finding his grandson in the garden sitting at a table with two books open in front of him. "What are you doing?"

"Oh hi grandpa, I'm trying to read these two books at the same time."

"Can't you be more normal please? I don't know, start sniffing glue, masturbate in your room, start sexting with one of your classmates. I swear, I'm starting to fear what your crazy mind is going to come up with next."

"Please, like you would like a normal grandson." Nathaniel laughed.

"Maybe not normal but certainly not as abnormal as you are. Is this even possible to read two books at once?"

"Yes but it's really slow going and really taxing for the brain, ask me again in a month and I will tell you if it can be viable."

"Why do you keep doing that kind of thing? I know you thrive on challenges but this is pushing it to the extreme."

"It's true that I love challenges but this time it's not about this. The truth is that I lack time to do what needs to be done. Between my career as an actor, as a singer and my life as a law student, as a head of a business and my life as a son and grandson, I'm always running for time. Even the official side of my company takes time away from me. I need to find a solution and if I can learn to do that, I could be half way to find one." Nathaniel explained.

"I understand that, trust me on this. I understand you have a lot to do all the time and if you can't do it anymore, you need help or you will end up burning out. I saw that happened a lot and I don't want it to happen to you. I saw that the official side of the business is going quite well, you could put someone in charge to take care of it, that could help you in the short term."

"I thought about this grandpa but this is too early for that, the company has only been up for months and I didn't find the right person for the job yet, I still need to wait. And we are doing fine only because you put a good word out for me, thanks by the way."

"Don't mention it, we are family and it's always easy to sell a good product."

"Thanks anyway. You came for something grandpa?" Nathaniel asks.

"Ah, yes I did. I received an invitation for the annual Correspondents Dinner in Washington. So far, nothing unusual, I receive one of those every year but this year there is something weird. Usually I would receive one in my name and the others would be for your grandmother but this year, the other invitation I received was in your name." Robert said before giving him the invitation.

"Weird, I didn't ask for an invite." Nathaniel said, looking at the invitation thoughtfully. "What are you doing William?" He asks almost absentmindedly.

"I don't know but it seems to be a good opportunity for the two of you to meet without gathering any attention. Usually, we will not be going to this event, seeing Hollywood actors trying to understand politics is not really appealing for us but this time, we should go." Robert said.

"I agree and it would be the first time that
we will go to an official event together grandpa, I almost can't wait!" Nathaniel said joyfully.

"Just try to not embarrass me in front of the crowd, there will be a lot of powerful and influential people over there."

"What fun will be in that?" Nathaniel asked to get on his grandfather's nerves.

"Dear, you almost had a decent conversation here, please don't ruin this first moment." His grandmother chastised him while walking in his direction and tap him lightly on the head when she stopped near him.

"Sorry grandma, I'll be good. Hey, did you hear that?" Nathaniel asked, getting to his feet.

  Chapter 204: :

"Come on Nathaniel, don't play games with us." Robert said, shaking his head.

"No, I swear grandpa, this is not a joke. I really heard something. It was coming from the end of the garden."

"What did you hear, dear?" His grandmother asked.

"I don't really know, it sounds like something between a moan and a squeek. You didn't hear?"

"No, we didn't hear anything but our hearing doesn't match yours at all." Robert sighs.

  "He's right dear." Diane seconded.

Nodding, Nathaniel started walking in the direction where the noise came from, his grandparents following along. Arriving at the end of the garden, his focus zero in the hedge that was bordering the property. Walking slowly, he crouched down and was moving the branches away when he heard something growling inside.

"Wait, get away Nathaniel! There is a dog in there!" Robert shouted, pulling him back.

"Don't worry grandpa, you forget what I can do. Even a rabies dog is not fast enough to bite me and we need to know what is in there." Nathaniel said, moving forward on his knees to get a better view as the growling returned.
