Rules of War

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Writing a series is a commitment to try to produce something better and unique each and every time. With Rules of War, I hope I’ve accomplished that goal. As the storyteller, I’m especially proud of the underlying themes of parenthood and sacrifice, but ultimately, you, the reader, will make that determination. Like with all things in life, the future is uncertain, but it has taken a team effort to get to this point.
First, Team Bestler, comprising my editor, Emily Bestler; her assistant, Lara Jones; my publicist, David Brown; and our Pocket Books mass market editor, Jen Long—thank you. Without your commitment, the world would not have known Logan West or his family of warriors and loved ones.
Second, my agent, Will Roberts, who dealt with the day-to-day of this grueling business and listened to my regular venting. This is a brutal business, and we’ve learned that together—thank you.
Third, to my wife, Amy, who has consistently supported me throughout this endeavor, managed my mania, and kept the Family Ship on course. You get the biggest THANK YOU.
A special thank you to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland and to Assistant Sheriff Lt. Col. Dave McDowell, who facilitated my ride-along with the outstanding Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Shea Rediker, who tolerated my sarcasm and endless questions. At one point, we rolled up to a 911 hang-up call after hours at a mosque surrounded by woods. I surveyed the empty building and said, “You know, if I were writing this story, we’d be about to get lit up from the tree line,” to which Deputy Rediker replied, “Just make sure you shoot back.” You guys are an amazing testament to what it means to serve and protect. Continue to hold the blue line.
Finally, to you, the reader, thank you for your investment of time and emotion. Without you, there is no series, no further adventures, no more tales to tell. You are why I or any other author does this, and you are what matters—thank you. It’s been an honor. Until the next time.
Semper fidelis,
Matt
