Gabby's Haunted House 5

“Trust me, it did. And that is why I am here, to make sure that your story will never come out. You will never have the chance to tell your story and cement your legacy.”
And all of a sudden, the smirk on Martha Reese’s face disappeared. From the look of things, Gabby had managed to step on a nerve and needless to say, she loved it and wanted to keep it that way.
“Look at me, I have nothing else to live for anymore. I have no family to carry on my legacy. This kind of life is the only thing that I learned from my father and he learned it from his father. And now that I don’t have any kids, I would like our family to be remembered.”
“And what about those families that you took away from with your senseless murders? They found closure. Why do you want to open their old wounds? I don’t think that will ever happen. They will be notified, and you will be executed in cold blood. But your story will not come out. That I can assure you.”
Martha Reese started shaking violently, and this made Gabby a little cautious. With her, anything could happen. But then the most interesting thing happened. Martha just smiled and continued chewing on her cookies. For a moment there, Gabby was a little confused.
“You see; I can easily deny ever having this conversation with you. And I will be a free woman. Just because some secret door led to my doorstep doesn’t mean that I am responsible for the murders.”
Gabby smiled. At that point, she was more than glad that she had called the commander right before opening the door. She had been wearing a wire and the commander, and a team of special agents were outside in a van listening and recording everything and now they were ready to move in for the kill. And the only thing that Gabby could do was read the old lady her right.
“You are under arrest, Martha Reese. Anything you say will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney…”
Gabby’s words faded as Martha Reese went into some form of trance. It wasn’t happening to her. All that she and her family had worked hard to achieve had gone down the drain. But as far as Gabby was concerned, this was a victory. She even didn’t want to sell the house anymore since she felt as though the ghosts –if any- would be happy with her since she brought their killers to justice and got the mystery solved!!
