United flight 1026 touched down at Denver International Airport at 11:55pm. As the jet taxied to the gateway, Christos Gionelli turned on his cell phone and waited for it to boot up. As the phone connected and updated all incoming messages, Gionelli played scenarios over and over in his mind. Surey Whiteside was the best he’d ever worked with, but as things stood now, he was becoming a liability. Gionelli was flying completely by the seat of his pants, but he adapted well to change, unlike his contract employee.
The jet came to a rest and the interior lights lit up the cabin. Passengers immediately unbuckled their belts and rose from their seats even though the cabin door remained closed. Gionelli never understood the urgency to stand when nobody could exit as long as the doors stayed shut. He scanned his phone messages and emails, but saw nothing from Whiteside. He double checked his rental car information and calculated travel times which varied depending on which scenario he chose. Either way, tonight would be unpleasant at best, but necessary. He just needed to get that damn dog.
