Kahlua and Cream: A Magical Detective Agency

We all sat took seats and Penny sat next to me. “Well since y’all are here, we might as well talk about our plans.” I picked up my Kahlua and cream. It was thick and creamy. So yummy.

Ashe leaned forward and jumped right in. “I think the BlackHats need to step up and take a more active role. The police aren’t going to help us. We need to form patrols and police and normal services that magicals need.”

“And I think we need to go after the scum bags instead of just looking out for little crimes. I want to go out for the big boys,” I added.

Cal and Jim looked at each other like we had two heads. “Don’t you think you guys are moving a little fast?” Jim asked. “Isn’t better to keep our heads down and keep our people safe?”

My phone rang. I looked down and it was Rusty. I didn’t want to interrupt our conversation so I sent it to voicemail. I started to say something when my phone rang again. It was Rusty again. I held up my finger to the table, “Hey Rus—”

  “She’s gone!” he screamed.

“What, Rusty? What are you saying?”

“Mom, she’s gone! They took her.”

The color drained from my face. My three friends stopped talking and faced me. “Slow down, Rusty. What is going on?”

“Mom, I got home and there was a note on the door. It said…” there was a slight pause as I heard him crinkle the paper. “It says, ‘You have been taking from us. Now you know how it feels. Mr. C.’ What do we do?” he wailed.

I dropped my phone. “They took SallyAnn. Carlotta took my little girl.”
