As I met Gabriel’s eyes again, I felt a warmth spread through my chest. Love did have a way of showing up at the most unexpected moments.
“Everything’s going to be just fine, Candy.” I squeezed her, then smiled. “I’m going to help you get through this. I promise.”
“Can you get him kicked out?” She lifted her head enough to look at me.
I smiled. “Let’s just figure out exactly what you want first.” I brushed her hair back from her eyes. “Then we’ll figure out a plan to get it.”
“Thank you, Jenny.” She hugged me again.
I helped her to her feet, then walked her to the door. As I glanced back at Gabriel, he set down his guitar and met my eyes.
“I love you, Jenny.”
“I love you too, Gabe.” I smiled.
Once, I’d been terrified to say those words. Now, I couldn’t say them without smiling.
