Kyan felt his throat choke up. “Who was better?”
Fillian chuckled as his eyes began to water. “Oh, it was always him . . . but of course I’d never admit it.” he smiled big.
Kyan felt the tears building up, and he breathed in deeply.
The Prince shook his head, and Kyan could see the sunrise reflecting in his watery eyes. “I really miss him, Kyan.”
Kyan nodded, holding his emotions back. “You know . . . I think he’s still with you in a way.”
Fillian wiped a tear from his cheek and nodded, looking out into the white mountains beyond. “What do we do now?”
Kyan stared out as the sky over the mountains brightened. “All of this is yours if you want it.”
The Prince shook his head. “No . . . at least not yet.”
And ever so slowly, the golden sun peaked up above the mountaintops. Kyan breathed in the crisp air as the sun rose, shedding rays of warm, spring light over the valley. His mind wasn’t travelling into another body; he was himself, all four lives in one — watching the sun continue to rise. His lips formed into something of a smile as he felt a sense of long lost peace settle over the world.
