“Go to it then. It’s your time. She’s got this.”

He smiled at me. “You were the best high school girlfriend a guy could ask for, you know that?”

  “I had a feeling.”

He leaned into his wife and kissed her on the cheek. She pressed her palm into it and cried. “Tell her I love her.”

  I nodded.

Brian smiled one last time, and then he shimmered away, taking Sue’s heart and a tiny piece of mine with him.

On the way home, I returned Aaron’s call. He’d left me a message earlier that day.

“You’ve got a fan in need of some help,” he said.

  “What do you mean?”

“A Chantilly Adair. She left me a message trying to get in touch with you. I’ve got her number. You want it?”

I glanced at Mel. Aaron was on speaker phone, and she said, “We’ll take it, honey.”

After we hung up, I dialed her number and left her a message. My Spidey sense told me the Universe led her to me for a reason.

  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Where to start? Of course, I have to thank JC Wing, my proofreader. She’s done wonders with my comma obsession (among other things), and I couldn’t produce a quality book without her. I feel the same about Jen, my editor, who keeps me in line, and stops the Chicago trucker from leaking out of my character’s mouths!

This book was so fun to write, but I had a lot of help with the memories. Nancy Ryan, Tim Friese, Cris Nelson, Lisa Czarnecki, Mike Pontell, Genevieve Buck, Kristin Archbold, Donna Lamb, Mindy Rook, Tom Benz, gosh, I am sure I’m leaving someone out, though I’ve tried really hard not to. Thank you to all of you, and all of the Facebook friends from Buffalo Grove High School that helped me recall things like Randhill Cemetery and locations of things no longer there. I appreciate the help!

And thanks to my husband, (officially deemed Hottie Hubby), Jack Aspenson, for being my biggest fan. Love you.
