The mermaid! Kyra was sure she had escaped.
“Well, we need to change your shoes now.” -Her father told her. - “Before all the chaos you already know, we didn’t do the shoe change. That marks the transition from a little girl to a young woman. Your mother will kill me if discovers I didn’t do the shoe change. Where are the shoes?”
She asked herself the same question, but she was sure those shoes ended up lost in some undergrowth in Alter Land. Would she dare to tell this to her father? To disappoint him and her mother? But what was she going to do now? She couldn’t change the nothing she was wearing into flip-flops or clogs. Her father took Kyra’s backpack, which lay opened besides her in the daybed, and the ruby red shoes felt to the carpeted floor.
“How fancy!” -Her father said trying to imitate a chic French accent after giving her a look of approval. - “You came from Alter Land turned into a fashion diva!”
Both laughed hard despite knowing that the next day would bring hard decisions to take. What she would do, if something, to keep Mackenzie? Would she accept her mother’s offering and return to Alter Land to train? Decisions. So many decisions!
For now, having her father back, safe and laughing, was more than what Kyra would have asked for. She hugged him hard, promising herself to hug him at least twice every day.
Time would give her the answers. Now it was time to wear those luxurious red shoes.
“The chamberlain escaped. He’s gone!” -Zoe informed while entering the room without any advice. - “I would have done the same if I was him.”
“Who needs them!” -Kyra joked at Mackenzie’s absence.
“And there’s a weird creepy woman- witchlike creepy- rummaging in the birthday presents.”
