Night Angel (Gargoyle Night Guardians Book 2)

Seth wrapped his arms around Hannah’s waist, his familiar warmth comforting and welcome. Hannah leaned into him once again.
“Why don’t you and Beaumont do it together?” Hannah replied.
Sadie nodded and gripped a corner of the sheet. Beaumont clasped the other side.
“On the count of three.” Sadie’s attention focused on the sheet. “One, two, three.”
Hannah’s heart leapt into her throat as the sheet crumpled in a heap on the floor. Seth tightened his grip, holding her close.
Beaumont whistled.
“It’s beautiful.” Sadie gasped. “You captured Beaumont’s happy expression just right.”
The tension in Hannah’s shoulders slipped away.
Beaumont nodded. “Yeah, and check out the pink in Sadie’s hair. Nice touch, Hannah.”
“I’m so glad you liked it.” Hannah clapped her hands together.
“Of course I do. I love it, actually.” Sadie turned to face Hannah. “I always loved the drawings you made for me.”
Hannah opened her arms and welcomed her sister into her embrace. “I love you, sis.”
“I love you, too,” Sadie whispered.
“Hannah.” Wynne’s soft voice filled the air.
Hannah released her sister and glanced at her friend.
“Would you sketch a portrait for me of my family?” Wynne smiled. “We need to add Sasha, her girls, and myself alongside the pictures of our ancestors in my home. I’ll gladly pay you.”
“Really?” Hannah bounced on her toes. “I’d love to sketch for you, but you don’t need to pay me.”
Wynne held up her hand. “You are so talented. I insist.”
Sasha sighed. “C’mon, Hannah. Let her do it. She’ll be a crab for the rest of the day if you refuse.”
A giggle escaped from Hannah before she could stop it. “All right. If you insist.”
“I do.” Wynne nodded, a smile tugging at her lip. “You know, maybe you should consider an art degree instead of business.”
Hannah held her breath, her mind churning. After her experiences this past week, she’d grown in confidence and strength and wouldn’t let her past dictate her future anymore. To follow her heart’s desire instead of taking the safe route sounded fabulous. “You know, I might just do that.”
“Seth.” Beaumont smiled. “We need to take care of some business.”
She glanced between Beaumont and Seth.
Seth rubbed Hannah’s shoulder and stepped toward Beaumont. “What’s on your mind?”
“Reintegration. As the Chicago representative of the Gargoyle Reintegration Guild, it’s my job to set you up in your new life.” Beaumont laughed. “I’ll need a couple of days to finalize your identification and set up your bank account with your six-digit deposit. Just wanted to let you know that’s coming.”
Seth ran his palm over his face. “Six digits you say?”
Beaumont’s lip quirked. “It’s enough to settle down and figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life.”
“What do you want to do, Seth?” Hannah placed her hand on his arm.
He wrapped her in his embrace, and she nestled into him, soaking up his warmth.
“I haven’t figured it all out yet, but my first thought was to take flight lessons, become a pilot, and court Hannah along the way.” He peered at her. “Would you fly with me?”
Like water on its endless flow from stream to river to ocean, Hannah rode the current of love swelling through her soul. She glanced at the portrait of Beaumont and Sadie and the love she’d captured between them.
I want to be loved like that.
Her birthday wish rang loud in her mind.
She glanced at Seth. The depths of his eyes reflected the love she longed for from a man all her life. He’d given her his trust, and she’d given him her heart in return.
She blinked back happy tears as she traced her finger over the braided infinity symbol at her wrist. “I’d fly with you anytime, day or night, my angel.”
