Picking Up Attributes From Today c1-406
Page 24
This was astonishing!
He was just a Fourth-Grade Human Magician. How did he manage to develop such a fast speed?
“I don’t understand! This little fellow must be hiding some secrets!”
...
The lightning dispersed!
Raging Bull was still standing upright, with no signs of collapsing. This surprised Meng Lei. However, when he was about to continue his attack, Raging Bull suddenly collapsed on the ground with black smoke emitting from his mouth!
Raging Bull... was not able to fight anymore!
“I declare the winner of this match... Arthur Galen!”
The host appeared out of nowhere and announced the match’s outcome loudly. The audience cheered and shouted the name, Arthur Galen!
It was obvious that after this battle, Meng Lei had gained a lot of popularity. Many spectators now knew about him!
Meng Lei did not care much about this, and continued on with the important task of picking!
“Ding! Pickup successful. Host’s Spirit +3!”
“Ding! Assimilation successful. Host’s Wealth +21!”
“Ding...”
Chapter 44: Fifth-Grade Magician, Strike a Deal With Lance
Meng Lei was elevated after achieving a big victory in his first fight and getting off to a good start. The appearance fee of 1,000 gold coins made him even happier too!
,000 gold coins meant 100 Attribute Points!
He also had a fruitful harvest today, picking up various attributes. When he saw that the spiritual attribute was about to break through the 2,000-mark, Meng Lei simply spent some gold coins to raise himself to fifth-grade!
Host: Meng Lei
Race: Human (Contains Fire Dragon Bloodline)
Wealth: 22,614 gold coins
Physical Body Constitution: Fifth-Grade Warrior (2,729/5,000)
Spirit: Fifth-Grade Magician (2,014/2,000)
Magic Power: Fifth-Grade Magician (2,316/5,000)
Magic Spells: Some increase
Battle Aura Technique: Fire Dragon Manual
Battle Skills: Some increase
I am both a Fifth-Grade Warrior and a Fifth-Grade Magician!
I can be considered as a dual cultivator of magic and martial arts!
Meng Lei was very satisfied with his progress. In Heaven’s Vault Continent, the dual cultivation of magic and martial arts was not taboo. There were many Dragon People who were like that, training their physical bodies and learning magic spells at the same time!
Meng Lei did not know whether they would stop doing that after cultivating to a high level. But for him, he did not want to give up training his physical body or magic for the time being!
The battle advantage of being proficient in both was simply too great!
...
It was already 1 a.m. by the time he returned to the academy!
Meng Lei cleaned up hastily and performed his night meditation as usual!
He was quiet the whole night!
Early in the next morning, Meng Lei ended his meditation. After eating breakfast to fill his stomach, he began his cultivation of Fire Dragon Manual as planned!
After the last three days of training, Meng Lei felt that the Fire Dragon Battle Aura in his body had become stronger, and its circulation speed was getting faster. Every time the Fire Dragon Battle Aura completed one circulation, the Fire Dragon bloodline would be purified further!
When the Fire Dragon bloodline in his body could not be purified by the Fire Dragon Battle Aura anymore, it meant that this battle aura technique had been complete, and he had stepped into the realm of pureness!
That day was the day he would be transformed into a Fire Dragon!
“Heard that you have not been going to class for three days!”
When Meng Lei sat cross-legged and prepared to practice the Fire Dragon Manual, his housemate, Abbe, walked down from the stairs and looked at Meng Lei coldly!
“Yeah!”
Meng Lei did not deny it!
“Seems like you won’t be going today as well?” asked Abbe.
“Yes, and I won’t be going in the future!” Meng Lei smiled and said, “Magic lessons are of no use to me. It’s a waste of time to attend classes. It’s better to practice by myself!”
Abbe frowned when he heard this. He felt that Meng Lei’s words were a bit arrogant. Fire Dragon Magic Academy was the third-ranked magic academy in the Dragon God Empire, and the teacher was an eighth-grade magic instructor!
You, a Third-Grade Magician, dare to say such things?
“Hmph!”
Truly arrogant!
Although he was unhappy, Abbe was indifferent by nature and didn’t wish to say anything more. After a quiet snort, he turned his head and left the apartment!
“This fellow... always feels weird!”
Meng Lei shook his head. Unexpectedly, at that moment, his magic communication device suddenly rang!
There were many magical devices in this world, and the magic communication device was one of them. Its function was similar to that of mobile phones on Earth, but looked completely different!
The magic communication device was not as feature-rich as a mobile phone. It was not as complicated, and it couldn’t install many ‘apps’. It had only one function—communication!
Meng Lei opened the magic communication device. Bright lights lit up before converging into a face. It was the class guide and their senior sister, Jenny Lane!
“Senior sister, what’s up?”
Meng Lei was a little puzzled. Senior Sister Jenny was about to graduate this year and was very busy. She generally would leave them alone if nothing cropped up.
“Junior Meng Lei, have you not attended class for three days?” Senior Sister Jenny asked frowningly with a serious expression!
“Yes, what’s the matter?”
Meng Lei was stunned for a moment. From Senior Sister Jenny’s tone, it seemed that something was wrong?
“You are skipping class, do you know?” Senior Sister Jenny scowled and scolded, “You have just started school for a few days, and have already begun to skip classes. I can’t imagine what you will do in the future!”
“Surely, it’s not that serious? I remember that the academy does not stipulate that I have to attend magic classes? All I needed to do is to pass the exam, right?!” Meng Lei was a little bewildered.
“You are right. The academy has no hard rule that magic classes must be attended, but this is meant for senior students. After all, senior students have already learned the theory and fundamentals of magic. It doesn’t make much sense for them to attend class!”
Senior Sister Jenny rebuked, “But you are only in first grade, the foundation stage. How can you deliberately skip class? Are you aware that Department Head Dirk already knows about this? He is very angry and wants to see you in his office!”
“I’ll go! But is this necessary?”
Meng Lei was in a fix. His attributes moved by several hundred points per day, so how would he be able to find time for the head teacher?
“I have already conveyed his message. It’s up to you whether you want to go or not!”
Senior Sister Jenny was very dissatisfied with Meng Lei’s attitude. “However, I want to remind you that Department Head Dirk is the first-years’ head teacher. You should be honored that he is making time to talk to you. You will go if you know what is good for you!”
Right after that, she hung up!
“I’m so screwed!”
Meng Lei rolled his eyes.
Yes, he had to go!
Department Head Dirk did not have a good temper. If he did not show up, Meng Lei would definitely die a miserable death. There was no other way, especially when he was the head teacher!
After leaving the condominium, Meng Lei was about to head to the teaching faculty building when a tall, green-skinned Dragon Person stopped him. It was actually Lance, the person he had taught a lesson to on the entrance exam day!
“Yo! Isn’t t
his our genius freshman Meng Lei? What’s going on? Where are you going?” Lance was acting strangely as he peered at Meng Lei.
Meng Lei shot him a glance and said coldly, “Was the previous beating not enough?”
“Lowly race! What are you arrogant about? I was careless the previous time, and you took advantage of it. Do you think I am afraid of you?” Lance was furious. “Tell you what, I have already broken through two levels in a row and have advanced to become a Fifth-Grade Warrior. If you are capable, let’s battle in the ring. Care to see if I will give you a beating?”
“Fifth-Grade Warrior?”
Meng Lei raised his eyebrows, feeling very surprised. “If I remember correctly, three months ago, you were only a Third-Grade Warrior. How did you become a Fifth-Grade Warrior in just three months?”
“Hmph! I am a once-in-a-century genius. How can I compare to you, a lowly human!”
Lance folded his arms across his chest and said with a stern voice, “Enough with petty talk. Do you dare to step into the ring with me? If you don’t dare, you will make a detour when you see me in the future and stop acting arrogant!”
“Hehe, do you think I dare not?” Meng Lei smiled and said, “I am open to fighting you in the ring. But I don’t like to do things that don’t have any rewards. You should understand what I mean, right?”
“You want a battle reward? Okay, I am agreeable to that. My purpose is to expose you in public!” Lance sneered repeatedly. “I want everyone to know that this so-called human genius is nothing special, and cannot be compared to us, the noble Dragon People!”
“Great!” Meng Lei smiled. “How much do you plan to offer?”
“10,000!” Lance gave a thumbs up. “As long as you are able to defeat me, 10,000 gold coins will be yours! But if you lose... Hmph, I don’t want your money. I just want you to announce something in public, in front of everybody!”
“Eh?” Meng Lei frowned
“I’m a lowly good-for-nothing. I can never be compared to Lance!” Lance said triumphantly, “I just want everyone to know that no matter how talented you are in magic, you are just a lowly good-for-nothing!”
“I agree to your conditions! But 10,000 gold coins are just too little!” Meng Lei’s smile vanished. “100,000 gold coins! As long as you are willing to take out 100,000 gold coins, I will fight you!”
“100,000 gold coins? Why don’t you rob a bank?” Lance was furious. “50,000! The most I can offer is 50,000!”
“Hmph! You want to embarrass me, but are unwilling to pay the price. How can there be such a good deal?” Meng Lei laughed coldly. “However, 50,000 gold coins... is also fine!”
Chapter 45: Dragon Bone Herb, Instant Third-Grade Spell
Lance was incredibly excited after receiving Meng Lei’s affirmation. He took out his magic communication device right away and informed his scoundrel friends about it. He also got those friends to advertise it widely and spread the news!
The news spread like wildfire!
In no time, it had spread throughout Fire Dragon Academy!
Fatty Hart sat in class as per usual.
He had always attended earth-elemental magic classes with Meng Lei during the last three months. Although he didn’t understand why Meng Lei wanted to come along and attend earth-elemental classes, it didn’t matter, anyway. With Meng Lei for company, he wouldn’t be lonely anymore!
However, Meng Lei had stopped coming for classes ever since the mid-term examination. This bored Hart out of his mind, and he became very listless in class.
“Fatty, why are you still here?”
“What?”
Fatty Hart was stunned for a moment before he directed his gaze to the classmate speaking to him.
“Lance from Class 2 is going to have a showdown with Meng Lei from our class. They have probably already gone ahead to the battle platform to get permission for a showdown by now. Isn’t Meng Lei your buddy? Why aren’t you going over to take a look?”
“Lance and Meng Lei? Showdown?”
Fatty Hart was startled for a while. Then, he shook his head several times in a row and said, “That’s impossible! How can Lance, that piece of trash, be a match for my Big Brother Meng? Isn’t he just looking for torture?”
“Fatty, you’re too out of the loop!”
(⊙o⊙)
“Uhh?!” Fatty Hart was astonished!
“I heard that Lance consumed a stalk of Dragon Bone Herb recently, so his body has already broken through to fifth-grade. With his mighty Fifth-Grade Warrior battle capabilities, isn’t dealing with Meng Lei going to be a piece of cake for him?”
“Dragon Bone Herb? What the f*ck!”
Fatty Hart’s countenance changed dramatically. He didn’t bother with classes anymore and headed out at once!
“Dragon Bone Herb! Has that broken horn of a throat really consumed the Dragon Bone Herb? F*ck, that’s really some dumb luck he has!”
Others might not know about the Dragon Bone Herb, but Fatty Hart knew exactly what it was. That thing was an extremely rare plant, and the reason why it was rare was that it grew on Colossal Dragons carcasses and matured by absorbing the dead Colossal Dragons’ life essences!
As such, Dragon Bone Herbs had a special effect. It could refine the concentration of Dragon blood in Dragon People’s bodies and allow their bodies to undergo an explosive power-up for a short period of time. In addition, the effect... was the best when consumed by people below sixth-grade!
Therefore, to Dragon People on a lower social stratum, the Dragon Bone Herb was a miraculous elixir for refining one’s bloodline for sure. It was a treasure that all Dragon People dreamed of and longed for!
Fatty Hart didn’t expect Lance, that piece of trash, to have actually obtained something like that. That was truly some dumb luck he had! The heavens must be blind!
“I have to stop this battle! Meng Lei can’t possibly win!”
One could say that hurrying there at the fastest speed he could muster was truly a tough task for Fatty Hart. At a height of less than 1.6 meters tall, and with a weight of close to 100 kilograms, running was practically torture to him!
But what was he to do?
He could only grit his teeth and push on!
More than 10 minutes later, he finally reached the battle platform!
He arrived only to see Meng Lei and Lance standing on the battle platform. The magic shield had already risen into the air and enveloped the entire battle platform. The teacher in charge of guarding the battle platform stood in the corner and served as the judge!
Students that had hurried over upon hearing the news filled up the area outside the battle platform. There were splendidly-dressed Dragon People nobility, as well as simply-dressed human commoners; there were seniors in the higher grades, as well as first-year freshmen!
They pointed and gesticulated as they speculated wildly, making the place extremely lively!
“Excuse me, please let me through!”
“What are you squeezing in here for? Can’t you see that there are people here?”
After making a Herculean effort to squeeze through the crowd, and seeing the two people on the battle platform, Fatty Hart shouted, “Old bro! Don’t fight with him! You’re not his match!”
“Did you hear that? That useless loser is calling out to you!”
Lance had also heard what Fatty Hart said. The corners of his mouth quirked upward slightly, and a smug expression came over his face. “Hurry and admit defeat if you know what’s good for you, so as to avoid making a fool out of yourself later and embarrassing yourself!”
Meng Lei chuckled leisurely and made an ‘OK’ hand gesture at the little fatty, signaling to him to keep calm. Then, he said, “You can start now. I’m in a hurry and don’t have the time to waste going on and on about nothing with you here!”
“Hehe! I just hate that cool demeanor of yours so much. What are you being so arrogant for? You’re nothing but cheap human trash with a lowly bloodline. What’s there for you to be
so arrogant about?!”
Lance looked savage as he said, “Today, I’m going to thoroughly embarrass you in front of so many people here. I want everyone to know that a cheap piece of trash will always be a cheap piece of trash, so don’t ever think of comparing yourself to Dragon People like us!”
“Exactly! Kill that lowly human!”
“Let him know how mighty we Dragon People are!”
“Lance! Teach him a good lesson, and show him the Dragon People’s strength!”
“We Dragon People are the strongest...”
All the Dragon People nobility watching the battle also echoed him. The teacher, who was acting as a judge and standing in the corner, frowned slightly but chose to remain silent.
He had long since gotten used to this!
In this kingdom presided over by Dragon People, the human race’s social standing was ultimately lower than the Dragon People’s. Dragon People looking down on humans was a kind of normalcy that nobody could change!
Even if a Magician enjoyed considerably high status, it ultimately still couldn’t compare with that of Dragon People of the same level. Take Ninth-Grade Magicians, for example. Dragon People could become generals at war or ministers in the cabinet, and could be conferred as Dukes or Marquises, whereas humans could only take up positions in magic academies at best, and be conferred as Earls!
This kingdom... It ultimately didn’t belong to the human race!
“Is that so?”
Meng Lei smiled, and very brightly at that. “Then why don’t you strike and let me, a piece of a cheap piece of trash, have a look at how impressive you are?”
“I’ll satisfy you!”
Lance let out a sinister laugh and stepped onto the platform with one foot. By borrowing the ground’s powerful rebound force, his entire self leaped high into the air. Then, he smashed his fist downward at Meng Lei!
“Get down on the floor, you cheap piece of trash!”
Suspended in mid-air and looking down at Meng Lei underneath him, Lance was so agitated that his blood was boiling. He had waited very long for this day!
Yes, very, very long!
Ever since Meng Lei had humiliated him on the day of the entrance assessment, he had sworn to take his revenge for sure. He wanted to sweep away all the humiliation he had suffered in the past and get back his prestige!
