However, Meng Lei felt rather unsettled. With his keen Ninth-Grade Great Magician senses, he could clearly detect other presences in the room, even if it were just a cat.

Yet, he hadn’t detected the elderly man’s presence at all even after he’d entered the room for such a long time. Was he really just an ordinary old man?

With a hint of respect, Dirk Norway introduced the man to Meng Lei. He said, “Meng Lei, this is President Fred!”

“President Fred?” Meng Lei looked dumbfounded. “He’s President Fred? Surely not?”

“Hahaha! Do you feel that I don’t look like him?” asked the elderly man with a laugh.

Then, his face began to undergo a swift transformation. It didn’t take long before he turned into a completely different appearance. A pair of horns grew from his head, and his eyes were dignified and awe-inspiring—it was exactly what Meng Lei remembered of the academy president.

“So it really is the academy president!” exclaimed Meng Lei. He hastily greeted him. “Greetings, President!”

“Come here, come here. Let me take a good look at you.”

A smiling President Fred looked at Meng Lei and remarked, “As expected of the most excellent genius our academy has recruited this year. You’re a handsome young man, indeed.”

  “You’re too kind, President.”

Meng Lei took on a very humble attitude. The man in front of him was a Saint Domain, after all. A high and mighty Saint Domain!

President Fred asked with a smile, “Meng Lei, I heard that you’re already a Ninth-Grade Great Magician?”

  “Yes, I am!”

Meng Lei didn’t deny it. He couldn’t deny it, either; a lot of people had already witnessed it. Besides, Meng Lei didn’t intend to, either.

“I heard from Mr. Dirk that you were only a Fifth-Grade Magician when you left the academy. After that, in just a short month or so, you broke through to become a Ninth-Grade Great Magician!”

There was a sharp glint in President Fred’s eyes. “A breakthrough speed like that is truly shocking. Even the cultivation speed of Adolf, that Abyss Demon genius whose achievements are peerless in history, wasn’t that fast. I’m very curious, Meng Lei, how did you manage to achieve this?”

Dirk Norway was also looking at Meng Lei, his eyes filled with puzzlement. Meng Lei’s cultivation speed wasn’t something that could merely be described as “fast” anymore; it was totally illogical.

President Fred added, “Of course, this is just pure curiosity on my part. I don’t have any intentions of interrogating you. You can choose not to answer if you don’t wish to.”

I can choose not to answer? Yeah, right!

If I don’t give you a proper explanation today, you’ll probably think I’m a devil spy, like Adolf!

Besides, I still want to learn how to use the Titan Holy Thunder from you. If I don’t convince you today, how am I supposed to learn it?

“This is actually my biggest secret. I didn’t intend to tell anyone initially...” Meng Lei looked awfully troubled as he said, “But since you’ve asked President, then I can only be truthful about it. I hope the President and Mr. Dirk can keep it a secret for me.”

“Of course!” The two of them nodded repeatedly.

“Actually, I had an amazing encounter.”

“An amazing encounter?” President Fred and Mr. Dirk exchanged a look.

In a deep and low voice, Meng Lei slowly said, “During the recent winter break, when I was training in the Magical Beast Forest, I met one of my ancestors by chance, and received pointers from him...”

“Brat, what are you trying to do?” Ol’ Amos’ panicked, and his accusatory voice rang out in Meng Lei’s mind. “Why are you ratting this old man out?”

“This is an emergency, Ol’ President. I can only let you down now!” Meng Lei hastily apologized and said, “But don’t worry, I’m just using you as a scapegoat. It won’t do you any harm!”

“A scapegoat? You unfilial descendant...” Ol’ Amos was practically boiling mad.

  “Your ancestor?”

  “Pointers from him?”

President Fred and Mr. Dirk looked at each other. Meng Lei had an ancestor?

What kind of ancestor could help Meng Lei, a Fifth-Grade Magician, to break through and become a Ninth-Grade Great Magician with just a few pointers?

“My ancestor’s name is Amos Kroc!”

Meng Lei sold Ol’ Amos out thoroughly!

  “Amos Kroc?”

A frowning President Fred sank into contemplation for a brief moment. Then, his countenance suddenly changed. “Are you talking about the academy’s second president from 20,000 years ago, President Amos?”

“Yes, that’s him.” Meng Lei gave a heavy nod.

  “To think it’s actually him!”

Mr. Dirk’s eyes widened dramatically, and he couldn’t help but exclaim, “Meng Lei, are you saying that President Amos is actually still alive? Hasn’t he gone missing?”

“According to what I know, President Amos had resigned from his position as academy president in the past because of what his disciple, Adolf, did. There was no news of him, and no traces of him at all ever since then.”

President Fred’s eyes bore into Meng Lei. “Yet you’re saying that he’s been living in seclusion in Magical Beast Forest all this time... Meng Lei, I’m finding your words truly hard to believe!”

“I know this sounds inconceivable, but it’s the truth.” Meng Lei brought out a red scale. “This is something that my ancestor gave me. He appointed me as the current clan leader of the Krocs and ordered me to restore the Krocs to their former glory.”

  “That’s...”

President Fred stared hard at the red dragon scale in Meng Lei’s hand. At the sight of this, Meng Lei passed him the scale.

“A pure-blooded Saint Domain Fire Dragon’s scale! This is a pure-blooded Saint Domain Fire Dragon’s scale!”

President Fred examined the red dragon scale with a look of shock and astonishment. He said, “Isn’t President Amos a Dragon Person? Could it be that... He has already cultivated till the pinnacle of Saint Domain and has thoroughly been reborn into a pure-blooded Fire Dragon?”

“No, he probably isn’t just at the pinnacle of Saint Domain!” With a shake of his head, Meng Lei said, “I estimate that my ancestor has already stepped into another realm a long time ago. I once had the fortune to see his true Fire Dragon body. It was as long as 10,000 feet!”

  “10,000 feet? Isn’t that...”

President Fred took a gasp of chilly air!

Chapter 121: A Deity Ancestor, A Successful Bluff

Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios

Colossal Dragons were one of the strongest races in Heaven’s Vault Continent, and their strength was completely and directly proportional to their body size.

The stronger they were, the bigger they were. And the bigger they were, the stronger they were.

When an ordinary Colossal Dragon came of age, they were comparable to a Ninth-Grade Magical Beast, and their size reached up to over 20 meters. Should they break through to Saint Domain, they could go up to over 50 meters.

Following that, as they became stronger, their size would also grow and expand accordingly. However, even the size of a Saint Domain Colossal Dragon at its pinnacle didn’t go beyond 100 meters or so.

A dragon body that measured up to 10,000 feet—that was no longer the kind of size that a Saint Domain Colossal Dragon at its pinnacle would have. Even a Dragon King that stood above the Saint Domain wasn’t that big.

“Could President Amos have already surpassed a Dragon King?” President Fred wondered to himself as his eyes flickered in shock and uncertainty.

  A Dragon King!

To borrow a term of address from other races, they were also known as... Half-deities!

  What was a half-deity?

Someone that was half-mortal and half-deity!

Those that possessed a deity’s certain abilities but ha
dn’t yet shed their mortal bodies to truly metamorphose into a true deity—they were known as half-deities.

“An existence that surpasses a half-deity? Isn’t that...”

President Fred couldn’t help gasping in astoundment. “No, that’s impossible! It’s been close to 10,000 years since a deity has been born in Heaven’s Vault Continent. How could President Amos have possibly attained the state of a deity?

“Could it be that 10,000 years ago, he had already...”

President Fred’s eyes flickered as countless thoughts flashed past his mind. For a while there, he was rather uncertain about Meng Lei’s claims.

However, there was one thing that he did believe—Meng Lei likely had really encountered President Amos.

Firstly, after a period of over 20,000 years, the Krocs had long since been buried in the long course of history. There were very, very few people that knew of a clan like them, let alone a 16-year-old teenager like Meng Lei. Where was he supposed to learn about the Krocs from?

Secondly, that pure-blooded Fire Dragon scale didn’t lie—most people couldn’t come up with something like that at all.

Stealing it from a Colossal Dragon’s body? Pulling it off one? Snatching it from one?

  Ha, was that even possible?

Lastly, Meng Lei was capable of casting Dragon-Language Magic. In particular, the Dragon-Language Magic spells he had cast at North River Pass could explain the issue itself very well—because some of the fire-elemental spells were exactly President Amos’ signature spells from 20,000 years ago, while some of the others were fire-elemental spells that had never before been seen or appeared in the continent.

  Meng Lei’s original spells?

No, that was impossible! The only likelihood was that they were another person’s original spells.

In summary of the various points mentioned above, the likelihood of Meng Lei having encountered President Amos was very high. With that, his breakthrough to Ninth-Grade Great Magician in just a mere month’s time now had an adequate explanation.

As for whether or not President Amos had really become a deity, President Fred was skeptical for the time being—because this matter was simply too outrageous. Before they could find clear evidence on that, he found it very hard to be convinced.

“Meng Lei, I never thought that you would have such an amazing encounter like that!” President Fred was filled with marvel as he said, “Let alone the fact that you’re actually President Amos’ descendant. This is truly a blessing for the academy and the kingdom.”

“It’s all thanks to my ancestor’s kind mercy upon me,” replied a humble Meng Lei, who was totally in Best Actor mode.

“Meng Lei, since you’re a member of our Fire Dragon Kingdom’s royalty, can you let me see what you look like after you transform into a dragon?” President Fred requested.

No matter how fancy a story Meng Lei could come up with, it would never be as convincing as one’s bloodline. If he possessed a Fire Dragon bloodline, then all doubts would be dispelled.

“No problem,” Meng Lei replied with a nod. Then, he roused the Fire Dragon bloodline in his body, activated the dragon transformation, and entered a Dragon Person form.

“Not bad! Not bad, indeed! It’s a pure Fire Dragon bloodline!”

President Fred repeatedly nodded after witnessing Meng Lei’s dragon transformation. His heart was now completely at ease. He asked, “Meng Lei, President Amos had made a huge contribution to the academy in the past. Since you’re his descendant, is there anything you need help with?”

After making up and fabricating all sorts of stories for a good half a day, that line of his was exactly what Meng Lei had been waiting for, so how would he possibly stand on ceremony with him? Thus, he made his request right away.

“High-grade Dragon-Language Magic, as well as the secrets related to the Titan Holy Thunder, are all stored on the top floor of the library.” President Fred, who was all smiles, went on and said, “Initially, only talents that fit certain special requirements are eligible to enter, but since your situation is rather extraordinary, I’ll give you special permission to enter and study there, Meng Lei.”

  “Thank you, President!”

  ...

“That was such a close shave, Ol’ President.” A relieved Meng Lei remarked as he wiped the cold sweat off his brow after leaving the faculty building.

After giving half-truths and making up all sorts of fabrications, he had finally managed to bluff his way past President Fred.

A fuming mad Ol’ Amos berated him fiercely, “You little bastard, how dare you make me your scapegoat? I have no such unfilial descendants like you!”

“Hehe, I really didn’t have no other way out just now, had I?” Meng Lei chuckled sheepishly and said, “If I couldn’t convince President Fred, not only would the Dragon-Language Magic and Titan Holy Thunder go up in smoke, but I might even be charged with the crime of being an Abyss Demon. I’d be dead meat for sure if that happened.”

Although President Fred was modest and unostentatious, Meng Lei could clearly sense his review and examination of him. If he couldn’t provide him with a satisfactory explanation, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

“When all’s been said and done, these are the repercussions brought about by my overly-quick cultivation speed. Sigh, looks like I’ll have to keep more of a low profile in the future.”

“Hmph! Your cultivation is so fast that it’s even crazier than Adolf’s. Who knows, you might really just be an Abyss Demon. This won’t do, I’ll have to investigate this properly, lest you fool me.” Ol’ Amos snorted furiously. “I’ve already been deceived once. I won’t be deceived another time!”

Meng Lei rolled his eyes. “Ol’ President, it’s not as if you can’t tell whether or not I’m an Abyss Demon? What’s there to deceive you about?”

Ol’ Amos snorted lightly and replied, “You’re so secretive that it’s hard to say. No, this won’t do! I must investigate this properly, after all.”

“In that case, you can just do a proper, thorough investigation, then. You’d better not get it wrong.”

Meng Lei curled his lip disdainfully in response. Then, he changed the subject and said, “President Fred said that the Dragon-Language Magic spells and Titan Holy Thunder studies are placed on the library’s top floor. I’ll go over and take a look right away.”

  “Go, go! Run and advance!”

  ...

The library occupied a very large space and was the grandest and most imposing building in the academy. Even in the whole kingdom, it was considered an impressive building.

A pair of statues stood tall in front of the library. They were respectively a book on magic and a magic staff.

The book represented knowledge, while the staff represented magic power. Additionally, one mustn’t overlook the spiritual power holding them suspended in mid-air, too.

They symbolized the three great power sources of a Magician.

  “How imposing! How magnificent!”

Meng Lei stopped in his tracks and stood in front of the library. As he lifted his head and gazed at the grand and magnificent white building, he couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. “As expected of the largest library in the Fire Dragon Kingdom.”

“Stop marveling. Hurry, go in and take a look,” Ol’ Amos urged him impatiently.

  “Okay.”

Meng Lei stepped onto the stairs. By virtue of the magic badge pinned on his chest, he successfully entered the library. A magic screen towered in the wide, spacious hall, displaying the entire library collection’s layout.

There were a total of six floors in the library.

The first floor contained books on general knowledge, such as The Continent Annals, The History of Dragon God Empire’s Development, An Encyclopedia of Magic Materials, 100,000 Magical Beast Species, and so on.

The second, third, fourth, and fifth floors all contained books related to magic, ranging from low-grade to high-grade spells, all of th
em were stored on these four floors.

Every floor had a total of ten storerooms, each containing books on a specific magic element.

As for the sixth floor—in other words, the library’s top floor—it wasn’t displayed on the magic screen at all, meaning that access to the floor had been limited.

“The sixth floor... What I want is on the sixth floor.”

Unable to suppress the excitement at the bottom of his heart, Meng Lei rode the magic hanging ladder leading up to the sixth floor.

  Beep!

He had arrived on the sixth floor.

After exiting the magic hanging ladder, Meng Lei walked toward the corridor leading to the inside. The whole floor was empty, and all the book repositories were also tightly shut.

The sixth floor was devoid of any human presence, as well as of any object.

He didn’t see anyone or any open book repositories even after he had walked all the way to the end of the corridor. Meng Lei’s brows involuntarily furrowed into a deep frown. What was he supposed to look at when there was absolutely nothing here?

  Buzz!

In the midst of Meng Lei’s bewilderment, a colorful light beam suddenly shone down from above him and enveloped him right into it. The next moment, Meng Lei abruptly vanished from where he was.

The world began to spin, and the environment around him underwent a huge, radical change. It was no longer an empty corridor but a book repository full of bookshelves.

“It may seem empty and devoid of anything to the eye, but in truth, it’s full of profoundness within. This is what the true top floor of the library really is. Hurry and take a look! What kind of Dragon-Language Magic spells are there!?”
