The Reign of Rain Robinson

“No. What’s up?”
“Gavin’s fuckin the shit out that ass,” Carter said.
“Whaaaat?”
Carter clapped his hands together. “Bang, bang, bang on that ass.” He laughed.
“No, shit,” Jackie laughed because she wasn’t the only one sprung on some good shit.
“But I got her. I won’t let her get too far out there,” he said, knowing that it was his responsibility to protect The Family, even if it was at Rain’s expense. “What you gettin’ ready to do?” Carter asked.
“Nothing, why?”
“You wanna ride with us?”
“Where you goin’?”
“To see Benny Jones. He’s been coming up short for Hassan, so we’re going to send a little message.”
“You know I’m down,” Jackie said.
After speaking with Baby Chris and telling him what to do with the money, Jackie left Jimmy’s with Carter. Once she was gone, Baby Chris exchanged a few words with Chet Bright before he was outta there too. Once they were gone, he went back to the bar.
“You ready?”
“Ready for you to stop fuckin’ around and give me my money,” Rynnelle said and got in his face. “I swear fo’ God, you just don’t know how tempted I was just to walk my happy ass up outta here with that case. Nigga, you just don’t know.”
“And you don’t know how close your bitch-ass came to dying’ tonight.” Chet Bright shook his head. “Let’s go.”
The two made their way through the crowd and walked out of Jimmy’s. As soon as they were outside, a car drove by firing. When the shooting stopped, Rynnelle screamed franticly as she looked down and saw Chet Bright stretched out on the ground with a bullet in his head.
Benny Jones was a pimp, a number runner, and a straight up hustler who knew how to make money. Or at least he used to. He had benefited greatly when Carter killed Kenard Turner. That enabled him to ease right in and pick up that money before Hassan, Ryder or Howard’s brother, Richard stuck their greedy hands in and picked his bones dry. After that, things were good for Benny until he ran into a run of bad luck named Omeika. Her obsession with clothes, shoes, jewelry and anything with a high price tag, not to mention her vacuum nose damn near broke Benny before he got rid of her by passing her off to Terrance Jackson. Now she was driving him crazy. But that didn’t change the facts. He had been coming up short with Hassan’s money. All he needed was a couple of days and for things to fall perfectly into place for him to get right.
Since all the free pussy you want had a haunting pull on most men and with Kennard dead, Benny had set up shop at Veneshia’s, where unbeknownst to him, he was waiting for Carter to come and inflict pain upon his body. So, he was surprised when Veneshia opened the door to his office and in walked Carter, Jackie, Hassan and Geno.
“You folks have fun,” Veneshia laughed and closed the door behind her. With a lot of pent-up anger and frustration to take out, Carter stepped up quickly, grabbed Benny by the back of his head and slammed his face into the desk.
Jackie sat there watching Carter work. He was good, but it made her think of a story.
“Hey, Carter, you ever hear the story about how Rain made her rep?”
“No, I never have. Rain ain’t big on tellin’ old stories.” He slammed Benny’s face into his desk again. “You ever hear this story?” Benny shook his head and Carter slammed it again.
“I have,” Geno said.
“Rain found out that a number runner named Teddy Pegram was skimming … like you, Benny. So Rain decided to make an example, so everybody knew that Rain Robinson wasn’t no fuckin’ joke. She and The Purple Gang—”
“The Purple Gang?” Carter questioned.
“The Purple Gang,” Jackie said and stood up. “That’s what everybody called her crew.”
“You know, like purple rain,” Geno said, and everybody laughed but Benny.
“Anyway, her and The Purple Gang went to a bar where he hung out and dragged him out of there. They took him to his house, stripped him naked and bent him over the kitchen table and cuffed him to it.”
“That sounds like Rain,” Hassan said.
“So Rain steps up behind him and says, I know your bitch ass is hopin’ that I strap up and fuck that ass, but I got something else in mind.”
“What she do instead?” Carter asked.
Jackie started walking toward Benny. “She kicked him in the dick until he told Rain what she wanted to hear.”
“Damn!” Hassan said and laughed.
Carter laughed and punched Benny in the face. “That shit was funny, why ain’t you laughing?”
“‘Cause the story ain’t over yet, Carter,” Jackie said and pulled up a chair in front of Benny.
“Damn sure ain’t,” Geno said.
“What Rain do?”
“Rain starts telling him some story Nick told her about how in some cultures they cut the hands off of thieves.” Jackie paused. “Thieves, like you, Benny.”
“No, she didn’t,” Hassan said, and Benny’s eyes got big.
“Yeah the fuck she did,” Geno said.
“She had two of her boys cut his hands off with machetes and then Rain shot him in the head for screaming.” Jackie paused and there was silence in the room. “Then they dumped his naked ass, along with his hands, in front of the bar they took him from.”
“Now that’s how you send a message,” Carter said and slammed Benny’s face into the desk one more time.
Jackie leaned forward. “That’s what Rain Robinson does to people that steal her money.” Jackie paused and pointed in his face. “Thieves like you, Benny.” She sat back. “So, you should be thanking Carter for just beatin’ the fuck out your thief-ass and give him his fuckin’ money before Rain comes down here and cuts your fuckin’ hands off.”
Chapter Nineteen
Psych was worried. Since he organized and carried out the drive-by on Marvin, things haven’t gone well. His boys, Odell and Latavius were dead, killed by RJ and Marvin. They had even killed Norreece Jefferson.
If they killed that big crazy mutha fucka, what chance do I have? He asked himself.
He needed protection. The streets weren’t safe for him. He had considered leaving the city, but his money wouldn’t take him much farther than Jersey, maybe Philly if he was lucky. With no real money to speak of, and the streets not being safe to show his face, doing a job to get money was out of the question.
Last thing I need is for them niggas to show up blasting while I’m trying to make something happen, Psych thought. With very few options available to him, Psych went to see Mobley for help. He sat quietly and listened attentively to Psych as he talked about how RJ and Marvin killed Odell, Latavius and Norreece Jefferson and that he feared he was next.
“I’m sure of it,” Psych said.
“I got some shit in the works that will bring them niggas to their knees.” Mobley paused. “But in the meantime, I suggest that you lay low until I get this shit going like it needs to be.” Mobley stood up and Psych took that as his invitation to leave.
“Could you hit me off with a couple of dollars?” Psych asked, and Mobley looked at him with disgust. He had paid Psych well for hitting Marvin. The fact that he needed money to lay low said a lot about him. Mobley looked at Psych, then he opened his desk drawer and took out a stack of bills.
“Five grand do you for a minute?”
“Yeah, shit yeah. Thank you,” Psych said, taking the money and quickly shoving it in his pocket. “You know I’m good for it, right?”
“Right,” Mobley said, knowing that he would never see a nickel of that money again.
Psych may have left Mobley’s house with half of what he went there for, but he still came away without a plan for how he was gonna get out of the mess he found himself in. Therefore, with no other option available to him, Psych decided to take Mobley’s advice and lay low until Mobley got whatever going. He rounded up what was left of his crew, Marques, Clendon, Jovan, Sheik and Demont, ar
med themselves to the teeth and headed north on the Major Deegan.
He had a house there where his grandparents used to live that was about to be taken due to unpaid taxes. He paid the taxes and planned to use the house as a hideout for sexual rendezvouses with the opposite sex, but that never happened. Now it would make a good hideout from RJ and Marvin.
When they arrived at the house and got settled in with food and liquor, Clendon made a suggestion.
“Since we gonna be up here for who knows how long, we should have brought some ho’s up here to this bitch. I ain’t trying to be looking at you hard legs all day.”
“You wouldn’t know what to do with a bitch if she was standing here butt ass naked and you had an owner’s manual,” Demont said and everybody laughed.
“Fuck you, niggas. I gets mine.”
“Y’all niggas kill that noise. I got the shit handled. Before we rode out, I put in a call to somebody I know.” He glanced at his watch. “You niggas should have all the pussy you can handle in about an hour,” Psych said, but that was a big mistake.
Marvin wanted Psych bad. So bad he could taste it. After his talk with Black, he understood that not only was his reputation on the line, but his position in The Family as well, so he had to get him. It wasn’t enough that everybody knew that Money Marv was looking for Psych and that everybody knew that Psych was hiding. He had to kill Psych so there would be no doubt in anybody’s mind about what they could expect if they decided to try him.
With word out in the streets, the kings had been getting calls about Psych sightings that they followed up on and came away empty, but they were about to catch a break when Judah’s phone rang.
“Hello, Judah.”
“Yeah, who is this?”
“It’s Cokie.”
“Cokie?”
“I used to work at the house for your father,” Cokie reminded Judah.
“I know who you are, Cokie.” He remembered her and what she did at the house. “What’s up?”
“I heard you and your set is lookin’ for Psych and them.”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“You know I went independent, so I don’t work for your daddy no more, right?”
“I know I ain’t seen you around in a minute.”
“Well Psych is a client of mine and he called me and wanted me and five women to come out to some house in Yonkers.”
“What you tell him?” Judah asked.
“I said I would call him back when I got the five women,” Cokie said.
“Okay, call him back and tell him you got the women, get the address and call me back.”
“Okay,” Cokie said and ended the call. When she called back, she gave Judah the address. “What about me?”
“What about you?”
“I stand to lose a chunk of money by handing these niggas up to you. A little compensation and appreciation would be nice.”
“I got you, Cokie. You tell me how much tonight cost you, multiply that by ten and I got you,” Judah said, ended the call and told Pills where they were going.
In anticipation of the arrival of the women, things were starting to get wild in Yonkers. The music was pounding, the liquor was flowing, cocaine and weed were being consumed like they were going off the market that day. Everybody in the house was fucked up and waiting for the women to arrive.
“Y’all ready?” RJ asked when Pills parked the car down the street from Psych’s house. They were suited up and heavily armed.
“Let’s go do this,” Pills said.
“She ain’t say how many niggas he got in there with him?” RJ asked.
“She didn’t say,” Judah said. “But I can find out.”
“I don’t care how many mutha fuckas he got in there with him. Psych is mine,” Marvin said and got out of the car. The rest of the kings got out and followed Marvin toward the house.
“Make the call,” RJ said as they got close.
When Psych’s cell rang, and he saw that it was Cokie calling, he walked into another room, so he could hear what she was saying.
“Open the door. We outside,” Cokie said.
“Bet,” Psych said and heard somebody bang on the door. “Yo! Open the door, it’s the ho’s!”
Since he was close, Marques jumped up from the couch, rushed to the door and foolishly swung it open without bothering to look.
His eyes opened wide when he saw Pills standing in front of him with the pump. “Shit,” was all he was able to get out before Pills pulled the trigger and put a hole in Marques’s chest.
The loud noise, coupled with the sudden splatter of blood and Marques’s body hitting the ground, caught everybody in the house off guard and the kings rushed in blasting.
Marvin was first through the door firing and hit Jovan with two shots. He went down, and Marvin put two more in his head before moving farther into the house looking for his prey. RJ fired at Clendon and hit him with two shots to his chest and followed Marvin deeper into the house. Demont fired until his gun was empty and then he made a break for the door. He didn’t get far because Pills stepped out and shot Demont twice in the back of his head.
That was when Marvin saw Psych in the back of the house and fired at him. Psych exchanged a few shots with Marvin and RJ and then he ran out the back door.
“I got him!” He yelled and went after him.
Sheik fired at Judah, but he missed. Judah returned fire and then took cover behind a chair and shot back. RJ came back in the room and fired at Sheik. When he turned to return fire, Judah fired twice, hitting Sheik with both shots. Now that the room was clear, RJ ran out the back door looking for Marvin, but he was nowhere in sight.
Psych had to hop a few fences before he made it to the street. Only problem was that Marvin was right behind him firing shots as he ran. Psych fired a couple of shots over his shoulder and then he stopped turned and pulled the trigger. Then he pulled it again.
When Marvin saw that Psych’s gun was empty, he slowed to a trot. With his gun pointed at Psych’s head, Marvin stood and looked at him. Then Marvin lowered his gun, tossed it in the bushes and waved Psych on.
Psych rushed at Marvin and they struggled for a while, before Marvin pushed him off and hit Psych with lefts and rights to his face. Psych hit Marvin with a shot to the stomach and then they started going blow for blow. Psych would get off a good shot and Marvin would come right back. Then Marvin threw a hard punch to the face and Psych went down. Marvin stood over Psych and kicked him in the face. Then he stomped on Psych’s chest over and over before he got on top and swung away, punching Psych in the face several times. Marvin grabbed Psych by the throat and began pounding Psych’s head into the ground as RJ ran up.
“Money!” RJ yelled, and Marvin stopped.
When he stepped away from Psych, Marvin was breathing hard and he stumbled a little before he regained his balance.
“Give me your gun.”
RJ handed Marvin the gun and he stood over Psych.
He fired twice, one to the head, one to the chest and then he tossed the gun in the bushes.
Chapter Twenty
Mike Black
For the last two weeks, Monika and her team had tracked and surveilled Crazy Nicky. Once I was satisfied that I knew everything that I needed to know, Monika made her recommendations about where and how and I decided when.
On the day that it was going to go down, I was with her. Not that I didn’t trust her to get it done, but I didn’t like Crazy Fuckin’ Nicky and I wanted to be there to watch him die.
So, there we are, me and Monika, as we had been plenty of times before, in an apartment waiting to kill somebody. Since my little chat with Jackie, I’ve been thinking a lot about the old days, so how me and Monika used to spend this time did cross my mind. Anyway, we were in an apartment across the street from one of Nicky’s goomah’s. She had the shot all lined up and was just waiting for her target to appear in her sights.
“You wanna look?” Monika asked.
“Sure
,” I said, traded places with her and looked in the scope. For a second, I thought about what it would be like to pull the trigger and kill a man at this distance.
“You wanna take the shot?”
“No,” I said even though I had just thought about it. “I might miss. You won’t,” I said and moved out of her way.
“I never do,” Monika said and handed me some binoculars, so I could watch. “There he is.”
I put the binoculars to my eyes, and I could see Crazy Nicky come in the apartment. “Kill him,” I said and watched the bullet hit him right between the eyes and I saw him die.
After that, Monika packed up her stuff, I thanked her for another job well done, and I went home to get my family packed up for the trip back to Freeport.
But that was when this shit began.

Chapter One
What began as a little shooting between The Four Kings and a couple of drug dealers; and ended with the execution of Evander and his partner Big Frank, had spilled over into The Family and escalated to all-out war.
After the assassination of Chet Bright in a drive-by, a few more drive-bys were attempted but they were met by superior fire power, so their tactics changed to something a bit more sophisticated.
