I launch myself into his arms, and he catches me, as he always does. “Schroeder.”

“Your mom is coming in tomorrow,” he points out. “You excited?”

“I am. I really am.” I hold on to him very tightly until I drop back slightly as I finally share something new. “Erica is coming too.”

  “She is?”

  “She is. It’s a start.”

  “It’s a big start.”

Tonight, I am happy in ways I couldn’t have imagined or hoped for.

  “Danny?”

  “Yeah, sweetness?”

“Take me home tonight,” I sing through my shivering.

“Whatever my girl wants.” Danny scoops me up and plods through the snow toward his truck. “Whatever my guardian angel wants. Tonight and always.”

This is where I give out mad love to all of the people who made this book happen. If any author claims that they wrote a book on their own, that person is a big liar face. It takes a trusted team of people to tell you what they love but also what is terribly wrong.

Andrew Kaufman, Tom Cullinan, Alexa Lewis, LJ Evans, K.A. Tucker, Joli Wade Huynh, Michelle Odland, Cindi Settle, Carmen Comeaux, Elliot Wake, and Kristen Pierce-Vreeke all performed double, if not triple, duty. They listened to me, questioned me, guided me, and gave advice. This team read outlines and/or first drafts and offered up honest, invaluable feedback. Most importantly, they each showered me with love and support when I was at my worst and then brought me back up. I could not be more grateful.

Reagan Hutchinson shared such great information about face painting, and I’ll forever be in awe of her immeasurable talent.

Lauren Brynolf, Anjanette Rose, and Katie Monson are stars. Loyal readers who have slayed me with their early reviews. I bow down! And curtsy!

Jovana Shirley is undeniably the most spectacular editor/formatter/goddess, and I couldn’t have conjured up a more wonderful ally. Ever.

My husband, Bill, never failed to support me through my writing drought, and he cheered me on as I tried to write my comeback book. So, you know, bravo to him ’cause I’m a damn nightmare while in the midst of writing.

Finally, my agent, Deborah Schneider, also never left me, never doubted me, and never stopped fighting for me. She is a dream.
