“I will.”
“I’ll take you.” Julian rose to his feet and gave her a hand up.
“Thanks.” She turned to Kian. “Sorry for giving everyone a scare.”
“Take care of yourself, darling.” Amanda gave her a peck on the cheek.
As they headed outside, Ella wondered if she should find her mother and tell her what had happened or wait with it until they got home.
The problem was that in order to tell her mom, she would have to fight the compulsion again, and according to Julian, it was dangerous to her brain.
“Julian.” She looked up at his worried face. “Can I ask you a favor?”
“Anything.”
“Can you tell my mom and Magnus what happened? I don’t want to talk about it because of what you said it can do to my head.”
“Sure, no problem.”
“Thanks.” She leaned into him.
“You’re cold.” He tightened his arm around her.
The shawl she’d borrowed from her mom wasn’t doing much to block the night’s chill. Or maybe she was cold because of the exhaustion that followed the excruciating headache attacks when she’d fought the compulsion.
She was cold all over, her feet hurt from the shoes, and her home was another fifteen-minute hike through the village.
What had been supposed to be a fabulous day had turned into a miserable one.

When another uncontrollable shiver shook her body, Julian swung her into his arms and held her tightly against his chest. “Better?”
“Yes. Thank you.” She was too tired to object, and he was too warm and solid to resist. “The moment I get too heavy for you, put me down. I should be fine in a minute or two.”
Dipping his head, he planted a kiss on her forehead. “Silly girl. You’ll never get too heavy for me. Even if you gain a hundred pounds.”
“God forbid.” She put her hand over his mouth. “Don’t speak such blasphemy.”
Julian chuckled. “Now I know that you’re okay. You didn’t lose your sense of humor.”
“You think I’m joking? You really don’t know anything about girls, do you?”
His confused expression was just adorable. Teasing Julian was so much fun.
“Apparently, I don’t.”
She cupped his cheek. “Never ever mention weight to a girl. It’s a touchy subject.”
“Noted. What else?”
“That’s it. I’m not going to teach you how to charm other girls. That wouldn't be in my best interest.”
“You don’t have to worry about that. There is only one girl I’m interested in, and if you’re wondering who she is, it’s the one I’m holding in my arms right now. I just regret having to take you home. I would much rather bring you to mine and never let you leave.”
She would like that too, and not only because she was scared of Logan invading her dreams again. Tonight, she didn’t want to sleep alone.
Would her mom mind?
Ella wasn’t a little girl anymore. She was an adult, and if she wanted to spend the night at Julian’s, she could.
“Take me to your house. I’ll let my mom know that I’m staying with you.”
He stopped walking. “Are you sure it’s okay with her?”
“I’m an adult, Julian. And my mom adores you. So yes, I’m sure.”
“What about telling her and Magnus about what happened earlier?”
She cupped his cheek. “Tomorrow, my dear, is another day.”
