His Runaway Goal: Book Two in the Game Winner Series Page 9

by Nicole, Angela

“I think we should do whatever Sophia and Leo would want. Leo may want to go to Club Desire but Sophia won’t want anything like that.”

“Ah, Leo hasn’t been to the club only once since he met Sophia, and that was because I was drunk and he had to pick me up.”

“Oh yes, the infamous tequila debacle.”

His breath hitches when I take the towel from his shoulder and wrap it around his waist. I pull the towel so his body is against mine.

For a moment the old me, brazen Brenda, is back.

“There’s my girl. I’ve missed you.”

His admission goes straight to my lady parts. I can’t blame my hormones this time as I move my mouth to his.

Chris opens for me immediately. I moan into his mouth as his hands go to my butt. His dick hardens faster than ever with my wetness matching. It’s been too long since I’ve had this man inside me, and I’m not sure how much longer I can wait.

“Brenda,” he whispers against my lips. “Your room tonight. I’m not sleeping on that fucking sofa again.”

I giggle, breaking the scorching kiss between us. “It’s about damn time,” I reply, hoping I can make it that long.

  Chris

It was a struggle putting Rosie to bed tonight. She knows we’re leaving tomorrow and she’s already sad about it.

It breaks my heart to leave but I’m excited to have her and Carol come to stay for a few days next month.

Speaking of Carol, she retreated to her room early again tonight. Her work called and asked if she could come in tomorrow for a quick meeting, so Brenda and I agreed to stay and watch Rosie while she works.

Brenda and I sat up and talked about the things we need to do once we get home. We made a list so we can get the rest of the wedding plans done in a week or so.

During our conversations, I couldn’t help but let my mind wander again to what it would be like to plan our own wedding. Would Brenda ever say yes to marrying me? I know our relationship is not conventional by any means, but it’s ours and I’m fine with that.

Brenda is looking out the back window that overlooks the yard. From behind, I place my arms around her waist and kiss the back of her head. I hope she gets my signal I’m ready to get into our bed.

“I should go to Las Vegas and tell my father about the baby sooner rather than later,” she announces.

I rest my chin on her shoulder while she leans back into me.

“Are you sure you want to do that? Can’t you tell him over the phone or text message?” I laugh.

“I wish. But this is something I feel should be done face to face. Plus, I haven’t seen my dad in a long time.”

“Do you want me to go with you? Strength in numbers.”

Brenda turns in my arms, placing her hands on my chest.

Cocking her head to one side, she peeks up at me. “You’d do that for me? What about your soccer schedule?”

“I have a few weeks before I need to start. We could go as soon as next weekend if we get all the wedding planning stuff done. And of course I would go with you. Brenda, don’t you get it? If you ever need someone by your side, I want to be that person.”

I can see tears start to well in her eyes so I pull her in for a hug.

“Hey, maybe Leo and Sophia could come and we could make it like their bachelor and bachelorette weekend. Just the four of us. What do you think?”

Brenda sniffles and it breaks my heart to know how much she dreads seeing her father.

“I think that sounds perfect. You’re the best,” she says before she kisses me.

The kiss is gentle at first, but just like always, it turns into the two of us feasting on each other.

It’s an undeniable truth. Brenda is made for me.

“Let’s go,” she says as she leads me down the hall to our room.

  “Brenda, wait a minute.”

  “What’s wrong?”

Oh God, how do I say this?

“It’s all right if you don’t want to. This has to be weird for you just as much as it is for me.”

“No, I want to. God, I want to be with you. I’ve missed this, us. It’s the baby. I don’t want to hurt the baby.”

Brenda giggles at my comment and it’s music to my ears.

“I already asked when I went to the clinic to confirm the pregnancy. It’s okay.”

I swallow the sudden emotion caught in my throat. Brenda has a baby growing inside her. I need to be gentle. And that’s something very different for me and her.

“I want to go slowly,” I tell her as I run my hands through her long blonde hair.

Her breath hitches. “That’ll be a challenge, won’t it?”

“If it was just you and me? Perhaps, but there’s a life inside of you. So, no, it won’t be so hard to go slowly.”

My lips meet Brenda’s with soft kisses. Her hands find my chest, and I’m almost breathless already just from her touch. It’s been too damn long.

My hands cup her face as hers now find their way up my shirt. Skin to skin with Brenda is my favorite thing in the world. I’m like a kid at Christmas, working my way through the stocking stuffers, waiting for the big present at the end.

“I want your shirt off,” Brenda whispers. “I’ve waited three months for this.”

  Brenda

His clothes come off faster than I can blink. Chris is a work of art. His body should be on display in a museum so others may worship it like I do.

His kisses are tender as he removes my clothes. With his arms cradling my body, he lays me back on the bed.

Chris enters me in a long push, eliciting a moan from me.

“Fuck, Brenda,” he whispers. “I’ve missed being inside you.”

When he doesn’t move, I bring my hips off the bed, grinding against him.

“Chris, please.” I’m begging him to move and I don’t care.

“Got you, sweetheart,” he huffs out.

With my legs wrapped around his waist, we slowly match movements.

My body starts to shake as his kisses pepper my shoulder, sending me over the edge. In an attempt to stifle my cry, Chris moves his mouth to mine.

Against my lips, he lets me know he can’t hold out much longer.

“Come inside me, Chris. Make me yours,” I whisper.

“Shit,” he murmurs and I feel him let go.

As his head rests against my shoulder, the urge to confess my love for him grows strong.

  Not yet.

“I don’t think I can ever let you go, Brenda,” Chris admits as he rolls to his side of the bed.

While I say nothing, in my heart I feel the same way. I grab his hand and squeeze, hoping he gets the silent message.

  Chris

Carol was only gone for an hour or so but when she returned, she had bad news. The hotel where she works is closing sometime in the next year. They are no longer taking reservations after the holidays. The owner called everyone in to give them as much notice as possible, so they can begin their job searches.

Of course, Carol was upset, but I used this opportunity to try and talk her into moving to Tampa. She’s spoken about it before, but with Rosie’s schooling, she’s nervous she won’t be able to find a place my niece will feel comfortable.

Brenda and I hated to leave after the bad news, but we had to get on the road. So, with a promise to talk soon, we left.

The four-hour car ride home was quiet. Brenda slept most of the way since she didn’t get much last night. Once I pushed away my fear of hurting her or the baby, I couldn’t get enough of her.

She woke up as we hit the bridge from Tampa to Clearwater.

“Oh God, I’m sorry I slept so long.”

With a wink, I reach over and give a small squeeze to her tanned leg. “You needed to sleep. I hear that’s when the baby grows.”

“Have you been reading up?” She laughs as she leans back in the seat a little more.

  “Maybe,” I smirk.

“Did you hear back from Leo and Sophia about Vegas yet?” />
“Yeah. They’re in. He called when you were sleeping.”

Brenda rubs her hand over her face. “I can’t believe I didn’t hear the call.”

“It was quick. I think they want to try to go next weekend, if possible.”

There’s a lull in the conversation for a few minutes as Brenda stares out the window, watching the turquoise water pass by.

  “Hey, what’s wrong?”

“I don’t want to tell my father about the baby.” She gives me a sad smile.

“You think he’s going to be pissed? Because if he is, he’s an asshole.” I cringe as soon as it comes out. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.”

She laughs. “He doesn’t need to be pissed. He’s already an ass.”

“I don’t want you to worry for one second about telling him. I’ll be there with you, and so will Leo and Sophia.”

My reassurance seems to calm her but as I pull up to her place, I’m reluctant to leave her.

“So, I’ll call the florist tomorrow and see what I can do. I’ll let you know.” She leans over to kiss me.

Once her lips leave mine, I get out of the car and walk her to the door.

“Thank you so much for sharing your family with me. It gives me hope I can have something like that someday,” she says honestly.

Pulling her into my arms, I whisper, “You will.” And if I have anything to do with it, it’ll be sooner rather than later.

Leaving her was hard, but necessary. I need to get over the soccer stadium and check on our schedule so I’m not in jeopardy of missing conditioning for the upcoming season.

When I arrive in the parking lot, I notice Coach’s car. Coach Sellers practically lives here since his wife passed away two years ago.

I pass by the ticket office where workers are cleaning and rearranging office furniture.

Even with everything going on with Brenda, I’m excited about the start of my last season with the Rebels.

I’ve been doing some thinking and I think it’s time for me to go into the personal training field. After all, that’s why I went to college.

Peeking my head into Coach’s office, I greet him.

He motions for me to come in. “Hey, Chris. What are you doing here?”

I sit down in the brown vinyl chair in front of his desk. It looks like a tornado hit the place.

“I came in to see if the schedule has been posted yet?”

Digging through his piles of papers, he finds it. “Here it is. We start three weeks from Monday. Everything okay?”

“Yeah. I’m going to fly out to Vegas for a quick trip and wanted to make sure I was back in time.”

“Vegas, huh? You getting married?” He laughs.

As soon as he mentions it, my thoughts go to Brenda walking down a short aisle at some sort of chapel on the strip.

“That’s quite a look you got on your face, Chris. Wanna talk about it?”

I laugh as I clasp my hands behind my head. “Am I that obvious?”

“You look like I did when I was young and used to daydream about my wife, Mary.”

His voice wavers at the mention of his deceased wife.

“Okay, so yeah, there’s this woman I’m seeing. She’s got me pretty twisted up.” I blow out a breath.

  “Complicated?”

“That’s putting it mildly, but I think we’re working it out.”

“Look, Chris,” he says as he leans forward in his seat. “I expect great things from you in goal this year.”

He doesn’t need to go any further in his statement. I know where he’s going. It’s the same not so gentle reminder to keep focused on the game and not on any negativity in my personal life.

“I won’t let the team down. We’ll win the championship again this year. You can count on that.”

Coach nods and changes the subject. We spend the next twenty minutes discussing the soccer camp for kids with Cerebral Palsy. He wasn’t around last year when Leo and I held the camp, so he had lots of questions.

I head into the training room after our meeting and seize the opportunity to get in a quick workout. It’s hard to focus when all I want to do is be back at Brenda’s place. She’s quickly becoming my addiction, the air I breathe, and damn it if I don’t want to keep myself from falling all the way.

  Brenda

This week has been crazy. I booked the florist and the officiant for the wedding. But today, I get to spend it with Sophia while we shop for her wedding dress and my maid of honor dress.

Leo and Chris are here as well since Anderson’s Tuxedo and Bridal Shop caters to both the bride and the groom. As they try on their tuxes, Sophia and I swoon over the different styles of gowns.

Who knew there were so many different types? Sophia sure didn’t.

“Hey, try this one on,” I say over and over. But when I look at Sophia, she just looks overwhelmed.

“Shit, sorry. I’m just so excited and happy for you, Soph. Let’s face it, I never thought I’d be the maid of honor at your wedding.”

Sophia bursts out laughing at the reference to her years in the convent.

“Yeah, you and me both, Brenda. I never thought this would happen. Can you believe I’m marrying Leo in two months?”

Embracing her in a hug, I reassure her how great her life with Leo is going to be.

Our hug is interrupted by a knock on the dressing room door.

“Come in,” Sophia yells at the door.

“Hi there. I’m Regina, your consultant for the day. Which one of you is the bride?”

I point at Sophia quicker than she can say anything.

“All right then, Sophia, do you want to come with me so we can get some information on you first? I’ll bring you right back here.”

When Sophia glances back at me, I shoo her away. “Go on. I’ll be here, looking at the dresses.”

With the door closed, my mind wanders to what type of dress I’d wear if I ever got married.

As my hands move swiftly over the plastic bags that cover the dresses, I suddenly spot the prettiest thing I’ve ever seen.

When I unzip the bag and take out the dress, I know this is the one I’d want. It’s pale blue color and simple. With a chiffon overlay, it’s sleeveless at the top with a thin belt made of some crystals.

Curious, I check the tag and nearly cry at the price. That’s like, six times my monthly rent. But then I notice the size. What do you know?

Trying it on won’t hurt, right?

As I slip the dress over my head, I’m surprised at how lightweight it feels. It’d be the perfect dress for a beach wedding.

I can’t zip up the back but when I stand on the box in front of the mirror and look, I gasp at my reflection.

My eyes roam up and down the dress as my fingers smooth out the skirt. The feeling I get while wearing it can’t be described.

I reach up and wrap my long blond hair into a loose bun on top of my head. The neckline is gorgeous.

As I’m lost in my thoughts, I jump at the sound of knocking on the dressing room door. Shit, I don’t have time to get out of the dress. Oh God, what will the consultant say when she sees me.

  “Come in!”

I cringe, watching in the mirror as the door opens. But it’s not the consultant I’m looking at. No, the person staring at me is the most handsome man I’ve ever seen, and he’s wearing a tux that fits him like a glove, making my mouth water and my lady bits stand up and take notice.

  Chris

I wasn’t sure what I’d find when I opened the door to the dressing room where Sophia and Brenda were. I definitely didn’t expect to see Brenda in a wedding gown.

The minute my brain registers what I’m seeing, my heart slams into my chest. She’s the most beautiful woman in the world as she twirls around to greet my gaze.

She doesn’t look like a princess; no, this woman is a goddess to be worshipped.

“Chris, what are you doing in here?” she asks as she moves quickly off the step she was on.<
br />
I try to find my voice. Clearing my throat helps the temporary paralysis I feel. “Uh, Leo sent me in so Sophia can approve the tux,” I tell her as I look down my body.

My eyes don’t linger for more than a few seconds. They immediately go back to the beautiful woman before me.

  “Brenda, you look stunning.”

I move across the dressing room and stop just short of touching her. God knows I want to but she looks too perfect for me to ruin her.

She twirls the bottom of the blue dress. “It’s silly, I know, but I wanted to try it on. It’s the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen.”

  “That’s your dress, Brenda.”

She shakes her head and laughs. “Not for $5000, it isn’t.”

I watch the twinkle in her eye when she looks down at the dress. Maybe she’s not ready to get married now, and she can deny it all she wants, but I can tell it’s something she’s warming up to.

“Sophia went to do some paperwork. She should be right back if you want to wait.”

My mind doesn’t register the fact she was talking to me. I’m too busy watching her move behind the changing screen.

“Chris?” she asks to check if I’m still here.

“Yeah, I need to tell Leo if this tux is a go, so I’ll wait.”

“I like the tux if it means anything.” She laughs.

I can’t see it but I can hear her taking off the dress.

“Sophia hasn’t even tried a dress on yet.”

Before I can say anything, Sophia bursts into the room. She almost runs into me while not looking. “I found it! Oh, Chris, what are you doing in here? Oh my gosh, is that the tux Leo picked out?” she asks as she moves in front of me, getting a good look.

Brenda comes out from behind the screen, watching the interaction.

I lift my arms. “Leo wants the okay on this one if you like it.”

Sophia looks at Brenda. “I love it. What do you think?”

Now, I’m not usually one to read into things but when Brenda says she loves it, she’s looking right into my eyes.
