Sitting in the Rooftop Garden

Sitting in the rooftop garden
Wind-chimes tinkling
A small water fountain trickling
Appearing louder than the traffic far below
The gentle breeze blows
As I sip an ice cold designer beer
I survey my surroundings
Potted plants
Brightly coloured
And exotic smelling
I could almost forget this is Liverpool
Then I look beyond my rooftop
See the city
Bustling with people
The river rushes on
Ah, the Mersey
Ebbing memories flow back to me
Childhood
Work
Family
I close my eyes
And listen to the water fountain…
…Or can I hear the river?
